his February edition took us a bit more time to complete than usual since we wanted to find high-quality and interesting content for you all! For this issue, we traveled 156 miles north to San Antonio, a vibrant city filled with fascinating individuals and incredible places. San Antonio and Laredo are not only connected by the I-35 highway but also by the people that share their lives and hearts with both cities. In this edition, we explore all the things the Alamo City has to offer, from places to eat and dine to cool spaces to have fun with your friends. San Antonio has it all, and we’re taking you along to discover the people and places you never expected to encounter! We invite you to enjoy our Movers and Shakers section, a Cream exclusive! The cover of this edition also took us to the heart of Mexico, the country’s capital! In CDMX, we held our photoshoot session with the beautiful model Tania Ruiz! Dressed in spectacular outfits created by Mexican designers, we took pictures in a trendy AirBnB in the Santa Maria de la Ribera neighborhood. The results are excellent thanks to our amazing Cream team in CDMX. We’re looking forward to bringing you more surprises and much more quality content as we have for the past 10 years! The most wanted architectural project in New York
F
or a decade, New Yorkers have watched glass and steel work their way up in a slow-motion race towards the sky in Manhattan’s Midtown West. The end result is Hudson Yards, a large mixed-use, private real-estate project located between 30th and 33rd Street. Amid Tenth Avenue and the West Side Highway, you will find a new piece of architecture that looks just like a honeycomb. The Vessel, as the structure is temporarily being called, is an interactive $200 million dollar sculpture comprised of a network of stairs and landings that visitors can climb. The attraction includes 154 interconnected staircases, nearly 2,500 steps and 80 landings created by the British-based designer Thomas Heatherwick.
How do you get tickets to enter the Vessel? In order to keep everyone safe, a limit of 1,000 people at a time is imposed. If you want to check out this amazing piece of art from within, you can book your tickets on the Hudson Yards website (link below). It is open daily, year-round from 10 am through 9 pm, but times may vary during the winter months.
I suggest you get your tickets in advance! With your admission, you are given an hour long window to arrive. There are no time limits on your visit, but they may be enforced during busy periods. Although I have visited the monument at many different hours, my favorite time to go is when the sun sets. Watching the sunset from the West Bank BY KARLA MURGUIA 6 CREAM
of Manhattan is truly a magical experience. With no buildings to block the view, the New York City sky stretches above you and glows in red and orange colors. The movement of the river reflects a shimmering light onto onlookers on the shore. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring your camera and extra batteries to take the coolest pictures for Instagram.
You can climb the Vessel in 30 minutes, but if you want your visit to be worth it, spend an hour or two taking photos and videos. Each floor offers a different perspective. Since the colors of the sun are constantly changing, you will be able to take unique shots. I highly recommend you swing by the newest attraction in New York City. Simply Unexplainable
I
’ve regretted whenever I have told this story. The looks I got back eventually sealed it; at first, fascination, but with each detail, confusion, concern, and then ultimately, doubt. So, I began to tell it less. But as I passed its 25th anniversary, I became convinced that it was time to claim it. Because twenty-five years later, I’ve learned that some things are simply unexplainable. This was one, and it happened to me. The midsummer traffic on Sepulveda Boulevard in Los Angeles conspired with the afternoon temperature and the smog to make that drive more unpleasant than usual. I was headed to Paramount Studios for a final job interview in their television syndication unit. I had already accepted another job in Seattle with a software company, and was expected to report the following month. I was mostly determined to leave L.A., where I had already lived for fifteen years, but this was not an opportunity to take lightly, so I agreed.
I was driving south on Sepulveda Boulevard preparing to turn left onto Santa Monica Boulevard. I segued into the second left turn lane to the immediate right of a greenish blue metallic colored sedan. As I waited for the light to turn, I looked to my left and in that car was a young couple. The man driving was looking ahead. The woman in the passenger seat was looking at me, smiling. The light signaled us to make our turn, and I began to advance. But instead of looking in the direction I was headed, or even forward, I looked at her, because I realized that now she wasn’t smiling. The last thing I remember was the look on her face. It was one of fear.

As I simultaneously pulled forward and left, I noticed a few other things. She was yelling something I could not hear because her window was up, as was mine. Also, she was gesturing toward her windshield. Then, I saw that they weren’t advancing forward with me, which should have been enough to slow me down or stop me, but it didn’t. I pulled forward, and then realized why she was pointing, and why she looked so scared. I couldn’t see her anymore, but she must have lowered her window because now I heard her screams. that the driver must have mistakenly exited the adjacent 405 Freeway and was working his way back, a long distance trucker from the Midwest somewhere, tired, disoriented and unfamiliar with California streets. He was flashing his headlights, his horn an angry bleating chorus of overlaid sounds. Because of our vehicle height disparity and placement, I could not see the driver so I don’t know how I knew, but I knew he could not stop; and I was too late to do so. “Oh God,” I exhaled, concluding that would be my final thought, and those would be my final words. I felt comfort in that, so I just closed my eyes. When I opened them in what seemed like both an instant and an eternity later, I was parked facing eastward on Santa Monica Boulevard, as if I had carefully situated myself after a safe and successful turn. The young woman’s screams were broken and sputtering as she ran toward me, the young man following. I can’t claim firsthand memory from the point that my eyes were shut; I can only go by the hysterical retelling of it by the woman and the man, who was more controlled but nonetheless emotional. “I told Pete you didn’t see the truck,” her face contorted by emotion and shock, her voice coming in gulps. “You pulled forward, and we were sure you were going to die.” Pete was nodding and began to cry too, as she continued. “But what we saw next wasn’t possible.” Leaning over my open driver’s side window, I began to cry, though I’m not sure why. “Your car jumped over the truck,” she said. My tears stopped. “We both saw it. Your car just jumped completely over the truck, and landed where it is now.” She dropped her elbows on my hood and could not continue. He took over in words I’ve never forgotten, “You were saved, there’s no explanation.” He leaned down covering her with his body then peeled her off my car and they walked away, with him soothing her, “He was saved. There’s no explanation.” I’ve wondered ever since.

Tell us about yourselves and Bistr09. I was born and educated in France and
moved to Texas in the mid 80s. I’ve been a chef in San Antonio for 25 years. Lisa was born in the United States but grew up in Chile. She has worked as a private chef for Tommy Lee Jones and other celebrities. We both met in Florida on a weekend trip. We later married and had a child named Enzo. Lisa opened up Bite Restaurant in Southtown, and a year ago, we started Bistr09.
What are some of the restaurant’s specialties? Some of the restaurant’s specialities include the Dover sole, duck confit foie gras and steak frites.
How did the culture and cuisine of Chile and France influence your restaurant? Since cooking school in Paris in the early 80s to today, French
cooking has been my focus. I also opened a Belgian restaurant called La Frite and an Italian one named Ciao Lavanderia. After meeting Lisa, I discovered some of her favorite dishes which were incorporated into our current menus, specifically the “Sunday Funday” brunch.

Owning a restaurant must be a fulfilling experience! What’s the best part about it? On the contrary, what’s the hardest? The best part about owning
a restaurant is the social interactions you experience. It’s like having 100 friends over for dinner every night! My favorite customer quote is, “Thank you for making my life in San Antonio better for so many years.” Words like that keep me going! On the other hand, battling the high cost of owning a business, employee turnover and finding talent for our restaurant are daily battles. The occasional dissatisfaction from a guest is also painful at times.
For those of us with a sweet tooth, what is your bestselling dessert? Our
flourless chocolate cake is our bestseller, but the crème brulee and modern cheesecake are not far behind.
What makes Bistr09 different? Bistro09 is different because it is both classic and stylish. We provide a timeless and comfortable restaurant experience for San Antonioans that I hope will last for a long time. Bistr09 has some really unique art pieces, can you tell us more about that?
In my very first restaurant in Dallas, I wanted to fill the walls with art, but unfortunately, I did not have the funds to do so at the time. I then began painting myself. Over the years, I have sold and painted many pieces of art; I think I’ve gotten better in the process!
Tell us something our readers wouldn’t expect to experience at Bistr09? We strive to make service more personal. It is a more enjoyable experience when your server knows where you like to sit, what drink you enjoy and how you like your steak cooked. If you would like to be picked up by our classic Rolls Royce, we also have our very own car service. Anything that you would like to add? I would like people to know that we are
thankful for all their support, and we are grateful for the friends we have made over the years. Each day that we open the door to our restaurant, our goal is to please everybody that walks in with our decor, food and service. As time goes by, I truly believe we get better at it!

19, Fellow at Next Century Cities and 2019 Google Public Policy Fellow. How do you combine what you love with what you do? Growing up in Laredo, I experienced and saw many of the struggles residents encounter. I felt an innate need to improve the lives of those around me. I have always been intrigued by technological advancements and how they can better our society. My work has allowed me to serve others by helping to expand digital access.
What are your recent projects and/or accomplishments? Currently, I am focused on closing the digital divide. As a policy fellow with Next Century Cities, I’m leading research on disconnected populations. In January, I spoke at an event in DC about how technology could benefit students. Later this year, I will speak at the TEDx UT Austin conference about the importance of broadband access.
What is your ultimate goal? I am driven by the thought that though there is progress, obstacles still line the path towards opportunity for many individuals. I plan to keep fighting for disadvantaged communities, helping to ensure that the world our children and grandchildren inherit is one we would be proud to pass on.

na casona antigua que data de los 20’s, construida por los arquitectos Federico Mariscal y Arturo Álvarez, y reconvertida en un trendy Airbnb ubicado en la colonia Santa María la Ribera de la Ciudad de México, fue el escenario ideal para la sesión de fotos que Cream City Magazine eligió para capturar la elegancia y belleza de Tania Ruiz Eichelmann. La potosina, quien estudió la licenciatura en Administración de Empresas, decidió dar un golpe de timón y convertir el modelaje, al que inicialmente consideraba como hobby, en una carrera que le apasiona y a la cual se dedica en cuerpo y alma. A pesar de su ocupada agenda, también destina tiempo a la lectura y para cultivar su lado espiritual; tanto así, que ha estudiado cursos y diplomados de Theta Healing y Barras de Access Consciousness, pues le encanta entender a la humanidad, el comportamiento y las diferentes maneras de pensar que existen. Aun cuando radica en la Ciudad de México desde hace ocho años, para poder enfocarse en su carrera de forma profesional, Tania se mantiene cerca de sus padres, Elizabeth Gómez y Luis José Ruiz Ituarte, y se siente orgullosa de su herencia cubana, española y alemana. Hoy por hoy está centrada en emprender proyectos nuevos, pero sin olvidar lo agradecida que se siente por todo el trabajo y bendiciones que ha recibido desde que empezó su trayectoria en este medio. Este aspecto es clave para Tania Ruiz pues considera que la mente es nuestro empleado y no la puedes convertir en tu enemiga, ya que todo tiene una solución espiritual desde el ser. La modelo, quien vistió prendas de talentosos diseñadores mexicanos, concluyó que es importante trabajar en grande para ser grande. Por ello resulta esencial esforzarse todos los días para que las personas se conviertan en su mejor versión y, por ende, en todo lo que aspiran a ser.

As Laredo’s only Catholic high school, St. Augustine gives students the tools they need to succeed after their studies. The students create strong bonds with each other that last for decades after graduation.
Success Starts at St. Augustine
Robert Gutierrez Webb County Assistant District Attorney Class of 2010 How has your St. Augustine education made you the person you are today? My St. Augustine education helped make me the person I am today by instilling the tight-knit communal values that one can only get from a smaller high school. That, along with the addition of teaching the Catholic faith and life perspective, helped guide me in establishing my ethical foundation I would go on to need in my daily life as an attorney. Describe your favorite St. Augustine tradition. My favorite St. Augustine tradition would be the class rivalries we had, whether it was the skit competitions, pep rallies, any of the events where it was our grade level versus the rest of the school. It always brought out a healthy level of competition along with a feeling of comradery amongst our classmates, some of whom might not have interacted with each other much in their day-to-day lives.
What is your fondest St. Augustine memory? There are far too many fond memories I cherish from my time at St. Augustine. What comes to mind the most is all the fun times I took for granted. It was the down time with friends before class started, the lunches spent doing more talking than eating, the retreats, the field days, all the things that seemed like nothing at the time. What advice would you give students/parents considering a Catholic high school education at St. Augustine? The advice I would give to any students or parents considering a Catholic high school education at St. Augustine would be to do it. Period. Some of the best relationships in my life are those established during my time at St. Aug. The friends you meet, their families, all these relationships in such a small community really have the opportunity to flourish and grow well beyond high school. When it comes down to it, I wouldn’t trade my high school experience for the world.
Together, they walk the same hallways and follow the same faithbased, college prep curriculum that shape their lives forever.

My career began when I chose to specialize my law degree in international commerce in order to be licensed as a Mexican customs broker. This career has always been my passion because it has been a family business that spans many generations.
I am proud to continue our family’s legacy. I have always respected my ancestors for their persistence and desire to succeed. I have great respect and admiration for my father, Mr. Dionisio González de Castilla, because of his strong family values. I credit the work ethic he instilled in me for my success. My children inspire me. I am committed to my work in order to leave a legacy of professionalism and character to upcoming generations, specifically my children’s. I consider myself a very observant individual, in addition to being persistent, honest and serviceable.
It gives me great honor to be the leader of a company that has been in business for more than 80 years. Currently, I am the general director of González de Castilla Inc. and one of the active Mexican customs brokers for the corporation. Our business spans into various industries. I also have the honor of serving my colleagues as president of the Association of Logistics & Forwarding Agents, Inc. (ALFA). Like a lot of attorneys, I started out as a prosecutor at the DA’s office. After several years, I opened up my own firm where I primarily handled criminal cases. Eventually, however, defending people from charges turned into helping injured individuals fight against insurance companies. When you’re on the side of someone who is in an unfortunate situation, who has nowhere else to go, and you fight for them and win, that brings a special type of satisfaction that makes all the sacrifices worth it. A little over 4 years ago, my inspiration truly became my children, Wayo and Maddie. It’s amazing how much your children can inspire you. They help you understand and enjoy your life even more. I most admire my dad, his intelligence, his logic, his wisdom, and of course, todos sus dichos y consejos.
Something interesting about my personality is that I appear a lot more serious than I actually am. However, those who I’m close to know that I enjoy joking around. Regardless of the career you choose, you’ve got to have the dedication to do it. I firmly believe that if you have a passion for your vocation, you have the ability to overcome the stress and obstacles of any profession. Without it, then it’s just a job, and a client who is seriously injured in an accident or is falsely accused of a crime truly deserves so much more.

Kris Feldmann AIA | Architect Tell us about yourself and what you do. I am the Design Principal and a founder for CREO, an innovative architectural practice based in San Antonio. I received my BA in fine arts and economics from William and Mary and my master’s in architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCIArc) in Los Angeles. How did the CREO architecture firm begin? CREO in Spanish means I BELIEVE, and in Latin it is the root word of CREATE. CREO is a designbuild practice founded on a belief in the power of creativity.
How would you describe Essex Modern City? Essex Modern City when fully realized will be a dense, walkable mixed-use development on the Eastside. It brings together office, residential and retail in a way that amplifies the pedestrian experience. Currently, it is a large outdoor gallery and gathering space.
It must’ve taken a lot of work to get a project like Essex to launch. What was the process like? Essex Modern City started with the vision of our client Harris Bay. The challenge was taking that vision and designing a place that was new and innovative but that maintained a connection with San Antonio. Tell us about #EssexArt. The #EssexArt Project, held on the site of the future Essex Modern City, is a free monthly event that features an outdoor street art gallery. It is a venue for creative dialogue on the Eastside.
Why is a place like Essex important for the San Antonio community? Prior to the launch of Essex Modern City, the 8-acre site was a wasteland. This project takes that wasteland and turns it into a place that can be crafted by art to tell a story of hope and change. What is your vision for the city of San Antonio? My vision is that we become a city that embraces growth and change but doesn’t lose what makes us unique.

Edward Sherfey III, a Laredo native living in San Antonio, brings the best of both the Napa Valley and Texas together in his carefully concocted Randado Wines. Although the wines are made in Napa, they’re an ode to Texas and all the things that make our state unique.
Tell us about yourself and what you do. After growing up in Laredo, my education and career in energy-finance took me to Austin, Houston, and New York City. Currently, I live and work in San Antonio operating a small real estate investment and development venture. What got you interested in winemaking? Until about two years ago, I knew nothing about winemaking. My former job required frequent travel to San Francisco, and I’d venture up to the wine country. I quickly realized 500 wineries exist in Napa alone, yet none of them focus exclusively on serving the Texas consumer. I wanted to change that.
The process of making wine is so intricate. It takes time, but it must feel great when the product is ready and perfected to sell. What do you think makes a great bottle of wine? It’s simple: great wines start with great grapes from great vineyards. We’re proud to source grapes from award-winning, sustainable vineyards. Your wines travel all the way from Napa to Texas! It’s a long journey. How do they combine the best of both places? We set out to create world-class wine from Napa’s finest grapes. However, each and every wine we create is crafted to compliment all things Texas.
Naturally, you know I have to ask! What’s your favorite wine and why? My favorite wine is whichever wine I’m about to try next. I love exploring the lesser-known side of the wine world, from obscure grape varietals in Lebanon to the smallest of small producers across Scandinavia. You’re a Laredo native who moved to San Antonio. What is one thing you love about San Antonio and one thing you miss about Laredo? San Antonio is in the midst of an urban transformation. It’s exciting to experience the city’s growth, but Laredo will always be home. And of course, no one in San Antonio can beat the authenticity of Laredo’s best tacos. Your wines look delicious! Which one do you recommend to our readers? I’d say our Viva! Rosé has been the fan favorite to date. It’s often referred to as a “party in a bottle”.
Let’s look into the future for our last question. Where do you see yourself in five years? I hope Randado Wines is still producing great wines and bringing smiles to our customers’ faces. 34 CREAM

ay lugares de México que han logrado robarme el corazón por diferentes motivos. Algunos, por su belleza; otros, por su oferta gastronómica, o bien por su cultura e historia. Uruapan es, sin lugar a dudas, un sitio que permanece en la memoria, no sólo por la calidez de su gente, sino también por todo lo que tiene para ofrecer a los turistas, más allá de ser conocida como “la capital mundial del aguacate”; tanto así, que incluso se ha convertido en uno de mis lugares favoritos de toda la República Mexicana. Tiene una extensión de 1,111 acres y en este lugar nace el río Cupatitzio, en un manantial conocido como “la rodilla del diablo”, el cual recorre 47 acres. En el sitio se han registrado 495 especies de plantas nativas y 213 ejemplares de vertebrados terrestres.

Volcán Paricutín: Su nombre, Parhíkutini, procede de la lengua purépucha y puede traducirse como “lugar al otro lado”. Está ubicado a 200 kilómetros al oeste de la Ciudad de México y es reconocido como el cráter más joven de todo el continente americano, ya que además forma parte de una de las 12 maravillas naturales del mundo. En Angahuan se encuentran guías que harán más ágil tu visita al volcán, que creció en una zanja abierta entre las parcelas de cuatro propietarios, lo que llamó la atención de investigadores nacionales y extranjeros.
Fábrica de Textiles San Pedro: En estas espectaculares instalaciones industriales se creaban diversos tipos de telas, con la ayuda de máquinas de procedencia europea que datan de 1800. A pesar de que la factoría dejó de operar, ésta fue restaurada y habilitada para eventos sociales, de forma que en sus jardines y salones uno puede sentirse en otra época. Una gran labor de rescate y amor por la preservación de estos bellos sitios arquitectónicos la han convertido en un espacio mágico e imperdible.
Otros lugares que no te puedes perder durante tu visita son: Templo de la Inmaculada Concepción, Mercado de antojitos, Jardín Morelos, Parroquia de San Francisco, Mercado de Artesanías, Parque Cholinde, Capilla de la Magdalena. Por si esto no fuera suficiente, a escasas millas de distancia de Uruapan puedes explorar otros puntos como las Ruinas Arqueológicas de Tingambato, los lagos de Pátzcuaro, Zirahuén y Cuitzeo, Santa Clara del Cobre, la isla de Janitzio, Chorros del Varal y el balneario de Parácuaro, para lo cual deberás elegir a Uruapan como tu centro de desplazamiento. Sus festivales culturales: La gastronomía, leyendas e interminables sitios históricos son tan sólo algunas de las muchas cosas que puedes disfrutar en este destino.

How do you combine what you love with what you do? Growing up in Laredo, I experienced and saw many of the struggles residents encounter. I felt an innate need to improve the lives of those around me. I have always been intrigued by technological advancements and how they can better our society. My work has allowed me to serve others by helping to expand digital access.
How do you combine what you love with what you do? I manage a hotel and assure that our guests are pleased with their stay and my employees are taken care of. My staff is what makes the Fairfield Inn run smoothly and great. I love taking care of people and making sure everyone around me is happy and comfortable.
What are your recent projects and/or accomplishments? We recently renovated Fairfield Inn & Suites. Everything in the property is 100% brand new including the furniture, bedding, interior decorating and landscaping.
What 3 words best describe you? Sociable, generous and open-minded What is your ultimate goal? To have a successful career in the hospitality industry and be able to spend as much quality time as I can with my family.
What are your recent projects and/or accomplishments? Currently, I am focused on closing the digital divide. As a policy fellow with Next Century Cities, I’m leading research on disconnected populations. In January, I spoke at an event in DC about how technology could benefit students. Later this year, I will speak at the TEDx UT Austin conference about the importance of broadband access.
What is your ultimate goal? I am driven by the thought that though there is progress, obstacles still line the path towards opportunity for many individuals. I plan to keep fighting for disadvantaged communities, helping to ensure that the world our children and grandchildren inherit is one we would be proud to pass on.

M
any friendships aren’t forever. So when you find yourself a group of friends who help you be the best version of yourself, it is important to keep them close and cherish the joy they bring. Alexa, Paulina, Gabriela and Ale are each unique in their own ways, and when we’re together, we complement each other’s personalities and instantly get along. I don’t know about you, but my life without my besties would suck. They each make my life complete. My group of friends is completely different in comparison to most friend groups, but it is rare and it is ours. We’ve known each other since we were in kindergarten, and we have spent more time together than apart. We are so close that our moms have become best friends as well. They just recently traveled to Vegas without us!
We love it. It shows us that our friendship is strong and here to stay forever, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. This year, I chose to show appreciation to my besties because without them, my life would be completely different and so, so boring. We chose this year to do what we do best: get together, order pizza, play our favorite board games and drink wine. Although we all know how much we love one another, we’ve never written out our favorite qualities about each other. After I read what my friends said about me, I have to say, it was probably one of the best gifts I’ve ever received. I don’t know what I’d do without my besties, and I’m sure you all feel the same way about yours. Promise me this: as soon as you finish reading this and looking at our super cute photo shoot in PJ’s, grab your phone and text all of your BFFs. Let them know what you feel about them. It made all of our hearts so happy when we read what each of us wrote, and I hope you all get to feel this sentiment too. How or why did you girls initially start hanging out? We’ve known each other since kindergarten and have managed to continue to be the best of friends after all these years. We’re all so different, yet so alike. It’s the perfect puzzle. How long have you been friends? As crazy as it sounds, we’ve been friends since we were 5 years old. We know each other a little too well, ha-ha!
What is it about your friendship-connection that has made your bond last? The fact that we can be our true selves and knowing that we will love each other no matter what.
What is your favorite thing to do together? Honestly, we love to all go over to each other’s houses and watch TV or be on our phones. Ha-ha! We always say, “Come over so we can all Instagram, eat and breathe next to each other!” What always manages to crack you all up? We’ve all known each other for so long, so we have a lot of inside jokes.
Do you have any inside jokes, codes, secret languages, or particularities of any sort? Share some with us! Yes! We call each other the “Cheetah Girls” haha! Example: Friend: “So, who’s invited to the party?” Me: “Just the Cheetah Girls.” What was the most difficult struggle your friendship had to overcome? College. We all traveled to a different city, met new friends and took different journeys. Yet, after all the new friendships we made, when times got tough, we always went back to each other. And we recognize that. We always say: “We can meet any one, but there’s no one like us.” If you could give your friend-group a name, what would it be? Cheetah Girls! Duh!
Where do you see your friendship in 20 years? Still watching The Bachelor and drinking wine every Monday.
What’s the secret/key to successful BFF relationships? Communication. Some of us are on the shier side, but when it comes to our friend group, there’s no boundaries. When we have a problem with anyone, we confront the person and talk it out. We actually always say things like, “Ok, we’re not going to be mad at each other forever, so let’s talk this out.” Would you be able to successfully order food for each other without having to ask? Alejandra Gutierrez • Alexa: Her laugh! It’s so contagious. I also love how easygoing she is, except when we’re playing games! She’s very competitive! That’s why I always pick her to be on my team haha.
• Estefanía: She’s definitely my funniest friend. When I’m hanging out with her, we are laughing nonstop. I love how she isn’t shy. If she wants something, she’ll do whatever it takes to get it. She’s a go-getter! • Paulina: Her CLOSET! If I could steal anyone’s closet it would definitely be hers. I think her attention to detail is what makes her so good at choosing an outfit and being a great friend. She’s the type of friend who remembers the little things like your fave cereal brand. • Gaby: She was actually my roommate in college! I love her trustworthiness. She is my confidant, and I tell her all my secrets. If I ever want to feel better, Gaby is the friend I call. She always knows exactly what I need to hear.
Gabriela Alarcón • Ale: She was my roommate for four years in San Antonio, Texas, when we were in college. In those four years, we never got into a fight. She is extremely easygoing. Before we were roommates, they told us never to be roommates with a best friend. That did not apply to us. Ale is extremely reliable. She always has my back.
• Estefanía: She was my neighbor growing up, and walking to each other’s houses every day instantly made us sisters. She is extremely funny. She automatically puts you in a good mood. • Alexa: Alexa is extremely chill. Whenever you are in a dilemma, she is the friend to calm you down. She’s always in a good mood, and she spreads her positive vibes to everyone.
• Paulina: She is the planner of our friends. She organizes our parties or even a random day of the week so we can all get together and see each other. Paulina is also extremely thoughtful and always goes out of her way to make others happy.

• Gaby: Gaby is so caring, and she is one of the sweetest friends that I have. I love that it’s impossible for her to be mean to someone. She also gives the best advice.
• Paulina: She is the dancing queen (literally). She is the life of the party and is always up for anything. If she could, she would adopt every single dog possible. She’s my first cousin, and we’ve been inseparable since birth.
• Alexa: She is the friend you call at 4 am when you have a problem. I know she will always be there for me no matter what. She has a heart of gold.
• Estefanía: She is literally the funniest person that I know. She lights up any room that she walks into. Estefanía is always in a good mood, and she radiates positivity.
• Ale: Ale is the queen of scaring people and making me laugh until I can’t breath. There’s never a dull moment when I’m with her. I know I can count on her for anything. She’s the dog whisperer, and she adores her son Moose and me! • Gaby: She is the first person I call when I need someone to cheer me up or listen to me. We always talk for hours on the phone. If you see her anywhere, she will always be smiling and laughing. She has the biggest heart.
• Estefanía: Her energy is contagious. She’s unique, loud, so loving and hilarious. She always motivates me to be the best version of myself. Everyone needs an Estefanía in their life! I’m beyond blessed to have each of these beautiful souls in my life. I can’t imagine my life without any of my besties.
• Ale: Ale is a social butterfly. She instantly becomes friends with anyone she meets. She was also my roommate in NYC, and thanks to her, we survived.
Estefanía Flores • Alexa: She is hands down the most understanding friend. She and I have a similar emotional IQ, so she understands when I am upset about certain things when others might not. We’re both very sensitive, so we just understand each other on that level. We can talk and talk and talk for hours. I don’t think I’ve ever told her, but I still remember in college when there were days that I wanted to stay in and not go out on the weekends. And she told me, “You need to go out. More people need to know you! Your personality is too pretty for you to stay in.” I will forever hold onto that. It’s one of the sweetest things a friend has ever told me! Lol! I love her so much!
• Paulina: Pau and I have very similar personalities. We are both very loud and laugh a lot. One of the things that I love about her is that she will always defend what is right. Always. We are a big group of girls, and if two of us are in disagreement, she will always defend the one that is right, not the one that she is the closest to. That says a lot about her. She’s as sincere as they come. She’s also a good listener. I can tell her anything, and she will hear me out and tell me her opinion without being hurtful. She’s a genuine friend. It doesn’t hurt that she is also a lot of fun. I love to be around her. I laugh a lot! Love her!
• Gaby: Gaby is my oldest friend. We were neighbors when we met. I still remember the first day she invited me to a sleepover; I wore my favorite pajamas because I was so excited. I’m a nervous wreck, and she is a lot calmer in comparison to my loud personality. That is
exactly what I need because she keeps me in check. Ever since that sleepover, I don’t think we’ve gone a day without talking to each other. I need my daily dose of Gaby!
• Ale: She is the most realistic and blunt of the bunch. She will tell you how it is, whether you like it or not. Sometimes, that is exactly what we all need. We also have the same humor; we can laugh at the dumbest stuff for hours. Our texts consist of just memes, no words. Most of the time people don’t find our jokes funny which makes it even more hilarious. We’ve been in situations where the dumbest stuff makes us laugh until we cry and no one else is laughing in the room. Love her so much!

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? I believe I am a passionate person that likes to do things right. I am very competitive but fair. I enjoy motivating and helping others succeed. Can you tell us a little about your background? I was born in Monterrey N.L. and raised in Lampazos N.L. In 1994, I moved to Laredo, Texas, and I’ve lived here since then. Where did you go to school? I had the privilege of graduating with the first generation of graduates from Alexander High School. I obtained a business administration degree from TAMIU and later became a real estate broker. What made you decide to go into real estate? I decided to get into the real estate industry 18 years ago because I wanted to be part of a field where I could work and at the same time be able to have the satisfaction of helping people. I have to admit that I had no idea how exciting, challenging and full of emotions the real estate industry would be. What is the best feeling about selling a house? Helping families achieve the dream of homeownership is without a doubt the greatest satisfaction in real estate. 42 CREAM
When it comes to a house, what is your favorite type of architecture? I love contemporary and transitional houses. It is amazing how new ideas and new styles are being used in the Laredo housing market. How do you see the Laredo Real Estate Market in 5 years? In my opinion, I see the real estate market in 5 years as very solid and stable. Laredo is a privileged city that mainly lives out of the foreign trade, and it has been constantly growing. What is your favorite restaurant in the city? Difficult question! I have several! San Telmo, Border Foundry and La Laguna. What is your favorite thing to do in Laredo? Gathering in my house with family and friends and having good times! Tell us a little a bit about your family. My family is what motivates me every day to go out and live my life. La semana de la moda nos permite disfrutar de los edificios más emblemáticos, transformados en el escenario soñado de los diseñadores, y también nos hace descubrir pequeños rincones de la ciudad en donde los protagonistas son la magia y el exceso de creatividad.
Los momentos más esperados La marca Chanel sorprendió al recrear el jardín enclaustrado de la abadía cisterciense de Aubazine, dentro del Gran Palais, para su espectáculo de alta costura, un lugar clave de la infancia de la creadora de este sello, Coco Chanel.
Louis Vuitton creó un escenario surrealista, en el que el cielo y las herramientas básicas del diseño en gran escala robaron miradas.
La gran sorpresa fue el show de Jean Paul Gaultier, quien ante más de 1,500 invitados celebró sus 50 años como diseñador y aprovechó para despedirse del mundo de la moda.
La presencia de México Durante esta edición pudimos ver a Krini Hernández, Cristina Picone e Issa Lien. Las modelos mexicanas fueron parte de los desfiles de marcas como Dior, Chanel y Jean Paul Gaultier.
Además, Maison Franck Sorbier preparó una colección inspirada en María Félix, en la cual los colores, el folclore y la elegancia rindieron honor a La Doña. Este 2020 tendrá cuatro ediciones más, las cuales prometen traernos grandes sorpresas.
