shaping the city’s landscape? This wave of innovators has taken the city to new heights, bringing an impressive surge of energy to their industries. We caught up with these extraordinary personalities who are raising the bar and who let us in on their must-visit places, noteworthy picks, powerful advice, and what’s in store for the city’s future ahead.

VazquezAnnalisa

A successful Laredo native living and thriving in San Antonio for the past thirteen years, Annalisa shares with us the charming side of this city’s spectacular hospitality industry and how San Antonians have become the main inspiration behind her mission to impact people’s lives.

CREAM 7

Top three cities to visit? Tell us one word about each one! Buenos Aires (food), Rome (culture), and Napa Valley (wine).

Annalisa also loves spending time with her family and boyfriend. She is also a group leader of a spiritual formation group of young women called Regnum Christi, where Annalisa promotes catholic values.

What would you say to your younger self ten years ago if you could time travel?  To be more careless and enjoy every single stage in my life.

TXANTONIO,SAN

Annalisa has fueled her passion for helping people achieve their potential by implementing innovative practices across different industries. Having started her professional career before graduating, she learned the value of work at a young age. This experience shaped her vision of life, and her extensive background working in the HR management field allowed her to realize the infinite possibilities of working with Vazquezpeople.ispassionate about helping others, but she also enjoys being in an environment where she can interact with the perfect mix of people and business. Currently working as People & Culture Manager at one of the trendiest spots in SA, The Pearl Brewery, Annalisa is genuinely committed to changing people’s lives and watching them flourish.

Okay, let us in on The Pearl’s secrets... What is the guilty pleasure you indulge in most when you are there? When the weather is nice, I enjoy the Park Bar at The Pearl or Hotel Emma’s bar, Sternewirth.

Describe yourself in three hashtags #: #Passionate #Listener #Faithful

Is there any upcoming project in The Pearl that you would like to share with our readers? We will be opening several restaurant concepts and a music venue in the next two years.

If a new visitor had limited time to enjoy one amenity among all The Pearl offers, what would you say is unmissable and why? Stay the night at Hotel Emma. The uniqueness of this 5-star hotel is incredible. The service and experience are one of a kind!

Annalisa, what do you think about the Cream experience? It was amazing to connect and share a little bit of myself with the people from Laredo and San Antonio! I am honored to be part of the Cream community!

What is a song that you can’t get out of your head? Coldplay’s “A Sky Full of Stars.”

If you could go to any concert past or present, what would it be? Frank Sinatra at the Sporting ClubMonte Carlo, Monaco – imagine that!

Luis Miguel Martinez settled in his new hometown, San Antonio. He is perfectly attuned to the local urban scene—for him, every project is a challenge, and there are no limits to complex designs that will be part of this city’s extraordinary urban landscape for years to come.

Working as an Urban Development manager at Area Real Estate, he handles complex budgets, time, and economic issues. However, for Luis Miguel, at the end of every challenge taken, the rewards of shaping the Alamo City’s urban scene are countless. Inspired by its rich history, his main goal is to “increase its quality of life, expand economic opportunities, and further support diversity and inclusion of all people.”

When it comes to challenging projects, there must be a point where demolishing must have seemed more manageable. What motivates you to persist in complex renovations and create something unique? Good question! It depends on several factors. “Demo” is always there for us. I mean for everyone in our field. However, the first step we take is to look at and feel the building before we peruse the opportunity. This gives us enough play to either go for the project or simply pass. Demolishing will provide you with a clean slate, but you may lose the romance between the historic merging of the new materials. But I would love to ask you, where is the fun in that?

Besides architecture, what else rocks your world? Family is my everything. And, of course, my wife rocks my world.

Born and raised in Chihuahua, Mexico, Luis Miguel’s passion for architecture started at a young age. Since he was a kid, Martinez recalls the impact well-designed architectural spaces had on him. Later on, he discovered this sensibility was the joy of recognizing well-done architecture and developed a keen eye for design, building, and construction.

What is the best thing that has happened to you this year? I became a dad for the first time!

Best way to decompress? Travel! It not only decompresses me, but it also helps me with what we do daily since I get to see and learn what other cities are doing or did, related to our industry. I must be honest. I am not the best companion to travel with since I like to walk everywhere for hours and eat at odd times. I also love to have people over and cook for them – or let someone do it, but just music, food, drinks, and laughs! Always good times!

TXANTONIO,SAN

Martinez has a particular vision for the future of San Antonio. He declares himself a big fan of the local creative community and believes it has an “incredible number of designers, architects, makers, artists, and developers like no other city.”

8 CREAM

Currently, one of his most outstanding renovation projects is the Creamery building, a historic adaptive reuse practice that will host mixed retail (restaurant, coffee shop, bar, rooftop, and a speakeasy). What makes this project unique is the context of “previous historic dwellers like the Mistletoe Creamery and Border Creamery, along with the architecture in place designed and built by local architects Atlee B. and Robert M. Ayres back in 1938”.

If you could make a documentary, what would it be about? Immigration around the world from the early 1900s until today and how that impacts the design and construction of the era.

LuisMartinezMiguelTrailblazingapathofsuccess

for himself as an architect

What is your favorite building or structure in San Antonio, and why? The Tower of the Americas, designed by O’Neil Ford, is the coolest building in town. It was built for an international fair that San Antonio hosted in 1968 with the craziest deadline to be done, and they did it.

In your opinion, where will innovation in architecture come from next? Technology in materials and tools, no question!

Luis Miguel re-discovers and re-invents architectural sites and transforms them into modernized yet timeless designs for the city’s needs. His extensive construction industry knowledge allows him to create original ideas and deliver them with flawless results.

Self-taught fashion designer, generation Mexican-American Cesar Galindo tells us all about his personal journey in the fashion industry all the way from Texas to New York City and the world.

Galindo

There is no question that his parents are the real engine behind Galindo’s industrious, enterprising, savvy, and hard-working character. They were tenacious and committed people from Northern Mexico who provided for their families in resourceful and innovative ways. He remembers how his parents “owned Galindo’s Meat Markets for many years that catered to the Hispanic communities and beyond.” And they did it with grace, love, and flair. Cesar inherited these same qualities that have determined the course of his career by redefining Latin success in the fashion industry.

Galindo began his fashion journey designing corsets and period costumes for The Miami City Ballet and The Houston Grand Opera. As a young man, he moved to New York in the late 1980s to continue working as a designer and later began developing his own fashion line. He faced many challenges at the beginning of his career and recalls how “the financial need to create and manufacture your work is the biggest hurdle any creative has.”

comes from a large Mexican family and grew up surrounded by solid examples of inner strength. Born in Houston, Texas, he is the youngest of eleven children and was considered the family’s baby. Cesar describes cheerfully how he “experienced the love of being raised by twelve parents.”

Nonetheless, Cesar’s restless visionary mind is delighting us with new personal collections with the return of his namesake brand Cesar Galindo. He recently did a runway show open to the public in the middle of Times Square, and the NYFW shows in February. In addition, he is currently working on entering the retail and direct-toconsumer world.

He has also worked as a contract designer for many labels acting as an innovative leader and defining the DNA of brands, including Dolce and Gabbana, Calvin Klein, L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani, and Kimora Lee Simmons Collection, and the new launch of Baby Phat.

My parents were classic American dream seekers and actually lived their dreams for themselves and all of my family,” he says proudly. Even though Cesar credits his business sense to his parents, he owes his craft to his mother, Esther. She was an amazing woman who taught her boy how to sew and her love for design. When Galindo grew up, he set his mind on becoming a full-time designer, and his most rewarding experience has been “creating for my mother. My father was also a dashing gentleman”, he declares with a smile.

However, he captured the heart of the fashion industry when his kimono dress design appeared on the cover of Elle Magazine in 1993. A master draper and pattern maker, his homonymous brand Cesar Galindo made waves everywhere and continues to have a solid international presence.

“The fashion industry has millions of yards waiting to be reimagined and brought to life,” says Galindo, whose mission for the brand is to use currently available warehoused textiles and work in limited capsules that drop within seasons. We will soon launch www.galindonyc.com a full-on Cesar Galindo collection shoppers’ experience.”

Do you admire anyone in particular, and why?

Stylist Elija Hollingsworth

Cesar, what sparked your interest in fashion design?

Slowing down to breathe and appreciate the simple aspects of living, editing, and purging what is not important.

We were present at your impressive personal collection in the middle of Times Square during Fashion Week last year, and it was grand!

I think I am funny.

With every collection Cesar puts forward, we are reminded of the legacy he built with effort and pride in his culture. Galindo continues making history and reminding us that you can become whatever you want to be and remain unapologetically Latin.

What was the inspiration behind it?

New York City always offered me inspiration every single day. One is never like the other.

Model Tina Lezhe / True Model Mgmt.

Joy and the celebration of life! It’s time to step out and enjoy the human spirit!

To what factors do you attribute your success?

I stay true to my DNA and strive to keep myself relevant as a designer.

Passion for creating, transforming an idea into reality, and it coming to life in human form.

After COVID-19’s pause, I am rebooting my collection into capsule collections. I am debuting at Torched/Fred Segal in The Hamptons, and I am also being featured at Sloan Hall in San Antonio and Houston.

Dancing and being married to my wonderful husband!

What is something you miss about Houston?

I miss my friends and family...and the food, the Mexican food!

What is next for Cesar Galindo? What do you have in store for your loyal fans and followers?

Hair & Make-Up Coco Bennett

What is your most valuable personality trait?

Some are fun, and some are a lot of work. All in all, I have cherished each experience.

In the ever-changing fashion design scene, what makes Cesar Galindo shine bright?

Photographer Ferch De Haro

Passion and patience.

How has life changed for you during these challenging times in the pandemic?

We know you are also a fantastic stylist that has worked closely with many celebrities. Can you give us an inside scoop on what it is like to work with top-rated stars?

My parents for all their guts and passion for life.

Besides fashion design, what is something you are passionate about?

After 30 years of living in New York, what do you enjoy the most about the city?

Evident but unassuming power, with a minimum of fuss. Another rare royal.

It was when I counted that I was five places closer to the front of the line that I noticed him. The next first in line should have merited it from his height alone. I’m guessing 6’5” +, with the volume of space he occupied also stretching laterally by his athletic bulk. He also stood out for other reasons.

The progression was slow, so I contemplated the inevitability of someone soon running out of Facebook posts to scroll or text messages to send, their expired patience moving them from agitated huffs to louder judgments voiced about staff planning. This seems to happen more today, as if efficiency and convenience were an entitlement. “Have it your way.” I blame Burger King.

of displeasure, such as twirling her wedding ring or switching her handbag to the other arm. Either prompts her staff to extricate her in a way that does not insult or even get noticed by the offender. She then simply smiles and moves on.

The “Never complain, never explain” motto of the other monarchy was said to have originated by British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli, who served under the reign of Queen Victoria. But even there, as evidenced by Prince Harry’s relentless public whining and looming “tell all” book, it may be a quaint relic of his granny Queen Elizabeth II’s generation. There is a reason that I could not imagine this seemingly most entitled person in the world raising a vulgar fuss (“Don’t you know who everyone knows I am?”) or insisting upon “her royal truth” to Oprah or Gayle. Or it may just be that she alone did it as brilliantly as anyone ever did or would.

A “big young gringo,” I thought, probably an offduty Border Patrol or maybe even an FBI agent. Before I had the chance to guess which, “Next!” came in a loud bark from the counter. He moved forward and handed a piece of paper to the clerk, who summarily returned it and bravely (given the size and implied power of his customer) dismissed him. “You’re in the wrong line,” he said, pointing to the other one. “That’s for pick up, we are for retail. Next!” There was no courtesy in the redirect. I wasn’t the only one in either line who noticed, heard, and anticipated a problem. But we were wrong, and it was that clerk’s lucky day. The big guy did not say anything; he didn’t complain, he didn’t explain. He simply turned and stoically ambled past our line, regally settling himself at the very end of the other.

Karen Dolby, author of The Wicked Wit of Queen Elizabeth II recounted “the story of the Queen accidentally meeting some American tourists during a rainy walk with a protection officer near her home at Balmoral. Not recognizing the wrapped-up figure, the tourists asked if she had ever met the Queen. ‘No, but he has,’ she replied, pointing to the protection officer beside her.” On another occasion, when someone told her that she looked just like the Queen, she is said to have answered, “How very reassuring.”

Saturday morning errand at the Post Office should never be a precursor to a pressing one anywhere else. There were two lines to choose from and neither looked promising. The one on the right squiggled to a counter with just two clerks and the one on the left to a small service window. I had to choose fast because the ends of both lines almost abutted the fingerprint smudged glass doors that I pushed to enter. So, I did the math. Quickly figuring that the employee to customer ratio would favor me, I chose the one on the right.

The British Queen and a Texas Prince

Editorial

After I was done, as I passed him on my way out, I stopped and reached my hand up to shake his. “You had every right to cause a fuss,” I said, “but thank you for sparing us the tension and drama this morning. That took real grace and composure.” With that, the “Prince of Texas” smiled tentatively, and with a slow soft grumble said, “I pick my battles.”

Now past her 70th year reigning as Queen and her 96th birthday, Queen Elizabeth II has never given an interview, nor written a memoir. Her memories and feelings of loss over the death of her beloved father King George VI, or her husband Prince Phillip, remain her own. The movie The Queen and the series The Crown can only venture a pastiche of a life from gossip and guesses. Even her irritations and enmities are left to subtle signals

This 2022 is an outstanding year for Laredo College, celebrating its 75th birthday! Since 1947, LC has been an educational pillar of the Laredo community as the most extensive and affordable option for students pursuing a college education.

Looking forward in time, what is your vision for LC? My vision for LC is to grow and develop programs to provide countless opportunities for people’s numerous styles and wants. We want to add and expand more programs, and certainly, we’d like to better the campus climate. We want to bring everybody back to campus and engage them in creative and fun activities both in and outside the classroom. We want everybody to enjoy what we all grew up with, such as having lunch at the Kazen Student Center, meeting up with our friends, and enjoying the opportunity to share and communicate with our professors, friends, and community leaders that would visit the campus. Right now, my short-term mission is: “Come home, come back to Laredo College!” We are here to help you. We are here to service you and get you on the right path, and whatever your choice in life might be, choose Laredo College because we are here for you, to provide you with the greatest opportunities and the best programs! Estamos para servir.

In your opinion, what are the extraordinary benefits of having women in leadership? Leadership is not gender-specific or more or less productive in one gender or the other. However, I think women in leadership find that their ability to multitask and act as the matriarch of the institution, organization, or business provides an opportunity to share women’s intuition, communication, and listening skills. Women generally have opportunities in our homes and businesses to do three or four different things simultaneously. We learn from each other, and there needs to be that inclusivity having a cross-section of males and females, with shared goals and a strong understanding of the different needs of the people we serve.

How do you balance your career, personal life, and passions? Is there such a thing as balance? You know I get asked that question a lot. Being a professional educator, mother, a partner to the love of my life, as well as being a daughter, a sister, and an aunt is hard. But being an educator and being the president of Laredo College, I tell you what I’ve said to all women at several leadership conferences: Some days, you are going to be a better businesswoman, educator, and president of your institution. And some days, you will be a better mom and a better spouse/partner. But whatever you do best that day, you must forgive yourself for the things you didn’t do so well. You have to be able to accept the limitations of the number of hours in a day and the emotional, social, and physical capacities that you have. Know when to apologize if you do something wrong and if you say something hurtful, make sure you go back and fix it. If you did something good for someone else, don’t expect anything in return because that is not why we do it. We do it because it’s the right thing to do, even when no one is looking. Because there is joy and personal satisfaction in serving, helping, listening, and supporting others who are depending on you. For my colleagues who are out there wondering how I do this, how I balance it all, the key is to forgive yourself for the things you didn’t do well and apologize for the things that you did that were hurtful. More importantly, give yourself credit for those things you did do and be humble.

From your unique perspective as the new leader of this great institution, what makes LC such a great academic option for students?  The beautiful thing and the great thing about Laredo College is that we have something here for everyone. It doesn’t matter what age, it doesn’t matter the choice of profession. We are here to serve everyone. If you are choosing a traditional academic pathway, we have it. If you are choosing a vocational or technical pathway, we have it. If you want to continue your education, if you want to take an art class, if you want to take a welding class, we have that available for you as well. We are all things to all people, and we try to provide as many opportunities as possible to continue growing and developing the communities we serve.

You are undoubtedly an inspiring leader! Describe your leadership style. My leadership style is to be inclusive and participatory. Communication is a big thing for me, providing opportunities for people to join the conversation. Collaboration is key, and I believe that leadership is not one person. Leadership is about collaboration, communication, understanding and respecting each other’s differences and moving forward for the greater and common good.

What motivated you to step up and become a leader in the institution? My motivation has always been to educate young people and to provide opportunities for our community through education. I understand that the world’s equalizer is education. Education is the only way to grow our communities, economies, young people, and families. It’s been my driving force since I was a young girl. I love to read, I love to write, but most importantly, I love to teach.

Are there any misconceptions or myths about a community college education you would like to clear away? There are always misconceptions about higher education in general. But certainly, amongst community colleges, some of the misconceptions might be that our mission is to serve rural communities or that college is too expensive. These misconceptions are especially common in areas like ours, where there are still many first-generation students and underserved populations. I think that those misconceptions are our greatest opportunities. I want people to understand that the quality of education at a community college, especially at Laredo College, I would put up against anything and anyone because the quality of education we provide is second to none. I also want our communities to know that affordability is our middle name. We work with everyone to help assure financial support throughout the students’ time at LC.

Can you please share with our readers if you have any projects currently in the works? I was very excited to come in and find a very welcoming group of people that were just as excited as I was and certainly eager to try and do different things. In the next few months, we will be able to share more with the community as our plans unfold. But one of the first things that we are going to do is to celebrate the legacy, the history, and the traditions of Laredo College. This being our 75th anniversary, we want to tell the public that beginning on July 15 and moving until September 28, our official birthday, we are going to celebrate the 75 days of Laredo College up to its birthday party on September 30. In the works is our gala, and we will be giving information to the public about how they will be able to celebrate with us and join in the fun.

In your opinion, what are some characteristics that set the Palomino community apart from other institutions?

We know you are a person with a joyful personality who enjoys mariachi music, traveling, organizing events, and genuinely being part of Laredo’s community. What else can you tell us about you that further enriches the fabric of this community? Well, that is true! I’m a huge proponent of the arts. You are right! I love mariachi music, and I love the theater and opera just as much as I love oldies music, but I think that I also really enjoy good literature. I enjoy reading a good book and poetry. I’ve danced all my life and taught dancing, and I still play the castanets in an ensemble with my childhood friends. We still get together every Tuesday. It is a part of my life that has really enriched the person I am. It has given me discipline and the ability to manage my time and appreciate culture. Part of establishing a diverse learning environment is through the appreciation for the arts and culture. This is how we strengthen and preserve our society. It is what gives us our identity, our entertainment, our styles of communication, and our creativity.

I think what sets Laredo College and the Palomino community apart from other institutions is the atmosphere of community, the atmosphere where people can speak two languages or three and feel comfortable while doing it. Where people of all generations can come and learn. It’s very inclusive and affordable. More importantly, there are people here willing to help, guide, and support. We want to engage our community again and remind them this is where you will enjoy coming to school, where your parents or grandparents may have enjoyed coming to school, and where we want you to be. We want to be a part of your life. We want to continue the legacy. We want to continue to ignite excellence, and the only way we can do it is if you are here with us! We want to put our arms around you, help you, guide you, and push you forward to the path of your success, whatever that might be!

My career began as a prosecutor in Dallas County, Texas, since my brother Kinny Cigarroa asked me to get litigation experience outside of Laredo before returning home. I returned to Laredo, joined Steve Whitworth, Richard Morales, and others, and began practicing law as a litigator in civil defense work.

Meet two dynamic achievers who contribute to the development

I drew interest in developing a focus on the root cause of pain and diagnosing/ treating that root cause. Growing up in a family of physicians, I was always interested in pursuing medicine, especially after seeing the positive effect my father and sister have on their patients.

I consider tenacity to be my most valuable trait. I lost my father at a young age and chose law when no Cigarroa had done. We are a large family! Today, the Cigarroa family is blessed to have many attorneys in the family.

I most admire my parents, but especially my mother. She raised six children almost single-handedly and my siblings, who deliver unconditional love to my children and me and who have set an example for a purposeful, servicefilled life.

Marti Cigarroa Attorney and Counselor at Law • Whitworth Cigarroa, PLLC

The most rewarding moments of my career have been returning to Laredo to practice medicine alongside my father and sister and developing my skill set. My skill set allows me to perform minimally invasive procedures such as carpal tunnel releases and trigger finger releases using ultrasound, allowing the patient a quicker return to full functionality.

My children and my extended family inspire me every day. And the incredible fortune to work with people in my law offices who care and strive every day to do better! I am fortunate to work with my paralegal, Grace Brulloths, who has worked tirelessly for my clients and Casa de Misericordia.

I completed my family medicine training in Reading, Pennsylvania, where I was exposed to all facets of non-operative orthopedics. This led me to do a fellowship year at the world-renowned University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where I was able to work with the Pitt Panthers football team and learn under experts in the field of Orthopedics.

I immensely admire my father and my sister. It is very humbling and impressive to see a physician with his bedside manner, experience, and knowledge work in his specialty. I also admire my sister Dr. Marissa Gonzalez, and the amount of care she places on each patient.

Peralta's artistic style is something between neo-pop art and expressionism. He describes his creations as "hybrid art, a fusion between traditional and digital art using painting, collage, video, illustration, and even artificial intelligence." Cesar feels a special connection to all of his artworks. Even if it seems like a very simple topic at first glance, he gives a piece of his heart and mind to every art creation.

He is a very proud member of the LGBT+ community. Over the years, he has worked hard to reflect and cultivate empathy towards this community and other vulnerable groups historically discriminated against for their ethnicity, gender, or age. Art is ever-evolving. Trends and styles come and go. Nonetheless, NFTs are revolutionizing the art industry and laying the foundation for the future of art creation. Meet Cesar Peralta, a gifted traditional and digital artist breaking schemes and making waves in the art world with his incredible talent.

NFTs are a game-changer in the art scene. Augmented Reality has changed the way artists interact with their audience as opposed to traditional art pieces. According to Peralta, “digital artists became more validated with NFTs because their work became easier to acquire, track, and monetize.” For Cesar, digital art allows him to expand the idea you see in the painting or even change the narrative. Peralta has been able to get to more people around the world. Besides collectors and other artists, NFTs have made collaborations and exciting projects possible without taking distance into consideration.

About the artist: Cesar Peralta is a 39 years old artist who grew up in Sonora. Since he was 18 years old, he has lived in one of the most influential and modern cities in Northern Mexico—Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. As an artist, he takes inspiration from everywhere and everything. His personal experiences, social media, and current affairs have been a massive inspiration for him.

Incredibly talented Georgine Ratelband is a well-known personality on fashion runways who has international crowds with her collections. Meet the extraordinary designer that has caught Cream’s eye and how she is currently blazing through the fashion industry.

Born and raised in the Netherlands, Ratelband has a solid Italian craftsmanship influence from her years as a student at Istituto Europeo di Design. She also has an edgy style with evident success over the last eight years, and it’s only natural that her designs have captivated New York. “I’m just a girl who had a big dream of becoming a fashion designer and living in New York,” says an excited Georgine about how the world’s capital has taken her to new heights and how she has become a New Yorker at her core.

As a student, her unique talent made heads turn before graduating when a boutique acquired her thesis collection in Belgium. She then made an impressive debut at Fashion Week, and her luxurious designs captivated many stylists, editors, and celebrities worldwide. Her designs have appeared in prestigious magazines like Harper’s Bazar, Vogue Germany, and Vogue Italia.

Ratelband has been the Creative Director of Georgine, a luxury ready-to-wear label for women, since 2014. Her eponymous label combines millennial spirit with a potent mix of refined rock-chic style and superb craftsmanship. The brand has become a leader in the haute couture market, offering a collection of sought-after, made-to-measure designs and cutting-edge style that sets the brand apart. Georgine’s stunning collections are bursting with lavish fabrics and simple cuts, becoming the brand’s hallmark for the woman who is the perfect off-duty rock star “on the street you can’t stop staring at, who has a strong sense of style and character, and is unapologetic about it.”

It’s always very inspiring to see any celebrity wear my clothing. It’s a huge compliment because I’m

I’m designing a new collection, and since two years ago, I have started to do interior design. I really enjoy the process of designing someone’s home.

In addition to her current collection, she wants to incorporate more easy and accessible clothing. Ratelband is in the process of opening the first Georgine boutique. Nonetheless, her exquisite sense of style has permeated other creative areas of design. Her vision for the future includes building a lifestyle brand, thus expanding her aesthetic to interior design. Undoubtedly, Georgine keeps elevating its place with the highest Italian craftsmanship of true luxurious prêt-à-porter, shining unapologetically and full of creativity.

Shortly after you launched your brand, you found out Beyonce wore one of your pieces at a red carpet event. That must have been extraordinary! What crossed your mind at that moment? That was a crazy moment! I remember I was at home in Holland waking up, and my phone was blowing up with messages and phone calls! I thought it was some kind of joke or that it was fake. It was really exciting!

You have honored your mother in past collections by taking inspiration from her closet. How amazing is that! Would you mind telling us more about her and how she has influenced your fashion style? My mom is an incredible person, and I owe so much of who I am today to her. She has her own personal style and always dresses for herself and nobody else! You’ll see my mom working in the garden in leather pants. She is quite bold and loves color! It’s funny when she comes to New York as many people wear black here. Her personality is larger than life, and people love how open she is. She is the kind of woman that makes you feel like you can be yourself without being judged, and she has influenced my fashion sense.

What has been your most rewarding experience as a renowned high fashion designer? My most rewarding achievement has been meeting my clients. They inspire and support my dream every day! I’ve met so many incredibly talented, kind, and generous people over the years. It has been very fulfilling to have support from these women. Fashion design is your passion. But, what is something else that sparks your inner fire? I love interior design and architecture. I love traveling, cooking, hanging out with friends, and laughing all day. I love going to the beach. Believe it or not, I love organizing and cleaning. It may be my OCD that kicks in, but it’s therapeutic for me and gives me such joy when everything looks neat and nice.

What is your most valuable personality trait

What do you like the most about the Italian and the American fashion industry, respectively? The craftsmanship in Italy. For me, The American fashion industry creates opportunity and hope.

After so many years of living in New York, what do you enjoy about this vibrant city? What I do not love about New York is the easier question. There is so much to love about New York! I love the architecture, the people, the hustle & bustle, the noise on the street, the eclectic group of international people that live here, and so much more! It really is the best city in the world for numerous reasons.

Influenced by a family with a strong fashion sense, Georgine has been fascinated with beautiful clothes since she was a little girl. Her favorite designers growing up were John Galliano and Ralph Lauren. She fantasized about the dream worlds designers built on catwalks and lifestyle brands. Growing up, she remembers drawing, dressing up dolls, making scrapbooks, re-organizing the living room, or putting together outfits for her mom. Hence, it only seemed like a natural decision to pursue a career in design. Her mom taught her that it is better to be overdressed than underdressed and to embrace your own personal style, an idea that has become an inspiration behind her brand.

when it comes to fashion design? I think that I’m straightforward and authentic. This provides me with a strong sense of self that I know what I want or don’t want, and I’m not trying to be something or someone I’m not.

Is there something special you are working on right now that you would like to share with our readers?

It’s something I’ve always done for myself, and over the years, clients have noticed that and always asked me for help or advice. I finally decided to make it an official component of my business.

You have worked closely with many celebrities. Can you give us an inside scoop on how it is to work with top-rated stars like Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, or Bella Hadid, among others?

Entonces yo he vivido en muchos lados.

Me dijeron, “¡Oye, pues hazlo tú!”

Editorial | Cream City Magazine

Editorial | Cream City Magazine

How do you keep your boutique’s inventory fresh and up to date? It’s not easy, but I often push my designers to change up their looks and make updates to older popular pieces. And I am constantly looking for new designers on Instagram. I send out private messages and ask them if they want to be in my Aspen Boutique. I haven’t gotten a no from anyone yet.

Nowadays, finding a blacksmith who still works with forge and hammer as Cooper does is an exceptional feat. He has invariably demonstrated he does more than mere metal fabrication and welding, thus contributing to the preservation of blacksmithing culture.

While he works primarily with steel, he also can work with all kinds of materials from iron, Damascus steel, Wootz steel, copper, and stainless steel. However, his favorite metal to work with is Damascus steel, an alloy and a mixture of layered steel. Charles says that even though “it is timeconsuming to fuse the layers of different materials together, in the end, it has a beautiful pattern rather than plain steel.”

Charles, in your opinion, how important is it to rescue blacksmithing from being forgotten by new generations?  Extremely. I hate to admit this, but shows like “Forged in Fire” have increased interest in these trades. While that show is not reality, at least a select few who persevere will help to continue essential traditions. Knife-making is a small part of it, though.

Charles Cooper works in two worlds, that of a high-end modern metal worker with an exclusive talent and one forged with effort in the midst blacksmithing, a tradition that

Tell us about your passion for salvaging reclaimed materials and less widely used woods. Reclaimed materials are often priceless. The study and execution of fine arts instill inspiration and creativity in my everyday life, thus, infusing my real estate practice with a different perspective. The coalescence of both enriches the mind and creates a broad worldview.

What thing do you love about San Antonio and what do you miss about Dallas, your hometown? I miss family in Dallas and being close to our family ranch. I do believe that my wife Meredith and I have built a great life in San Antonio and have made wonderful friends since we moved here in 2009.

Carla O’ Let’s Meet... Gonzalez

What are your recent projects and/or accomplishments? A year ago, I opened my store in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, and it has definitely been a dream come true. One of the best feelings is when I see people who don’t know me personally fall in love with my brand and then later send me pictures wearing pieces from my collection. Simply priceless!

What are three words that best describe you? Passionate, hardworking, and loving.

People | Cream City Magazine

31, Fashion Designer and Founder of Carla O’ Fashion Studio

How do you combine what you love with what you do? I have always been very passionate about fashion. I always dreamed of having my own studio and creating clothes from scratch, and thankfully now I can. Even though most of the time it’s very stressful at the studio, I wouldn’t change it for anything. I love it!

What is your ultimate goal? To have my brand recognized internationally and be one of the best fashion designers in Mexico and the United States. I know it will be a difficult task, but I think we can all dream and aim high.

And that makes it so special to me!

This esteemed organization, founded in 1915, has represented over 100 years of essential industries, ranging from financial institutions, and retailers, to transportation, logistics, and service providers. This auction was coordinated with the community in mind to partake in such a historical endeavor and to have the opportunity to take a piece of Laredo history and precious memorabilia home. Items such as photos, renderings, maps, blueprints, newspaper articles, art, WBCA historical documents, and NAFTA archives were up for auction.

The new location for the Laredo Chamber of Commerce is 5702 McPherson Road, Suite 8B.

The Laredo Chamber of Commerce hosted a one-of-a-kind event this July to farewell the building that has housed this institution for over 45 years.

My home is a loving place that always breathes positive energy that my family and I enjoy. Colonial and contemporary styles inspire the design and architecture of this place. We love it because it has an eclectic style that allows us to combine the old with the new. If I could describe this place in the following words it would be: love, beautiful energy, and my sanctuary. My favorite thing about being here is that it is always the meeting point for my family. When I am at home, I feel in my comfort zone. The most remarkable feature of this place would have to be that it is a place of love.

At Cream, we are fans of upscale architectural design, and when Marcela Licona welcomed us into her place, we were in awe at such a beautiful, gracious, and well-planned space. Strong, loving, cheerful, tenacious, and determined are all perfect adjectives that describe Marcela’s personality and home. Come in San Antonio that made our hearts skip a beat!

Editorial | Cream City Magazine

•Quíntuple Iron Man “1 x día” de (226 km x 5) y

•Quíntuple Iron Man continuo de 1,130 km.
