Hunt County Dog Show Cluster In the quite town of Doswell, VA stands a show site that is so much more than an event center. It’s called Meadow event center and it is the home of the Hunt County Cluster of dog shows held the first week in November. Thanks to the efforts of Tish Edwards, Colonial Rottweiler club supports 2 of the days, ARC has 3 days of sweepstakes and a region IV specialty. There are 5 days of shows and they are INDOORS. Some of you might remember this cluster from when it was at the beautiful Long Branch Farm in Millwood, VA. They had some unfortunate weather situations but It is now held indoors at this very comfortable show sight. There is plenty of parking, camping space (some spots have full hookups), Hotels and Air B&B’s. Everything is very convenient. As if the indoor facility and welcoming atmosphere were not enough, Meadow Event Center is also the birthplace of the greatest racehorse of all time, Secretariat and now houses the Secretariat Heritage Center. I don’t know about all of you but when I was a young woman showing horses myself, I was absolutely in awe of this magnificent horse, and watching him dominate the racecourse gave me goosebumps. I still get chills when watching reruns of some of his races. He was a legend. While at the show you can wander around the 331-acre property where Secretariat spent the first year of his life. The barns he was born in are open to the public and you can tour the property and get a true feeling of the beautiful facility and surrounding areas. There is a graveyard for a few of the more famous horses who called this farm home (no Secretariat is not buried here) as well as the magnificent Meadow Hall. This was the home of Christopher Cheney and his family and is now used for special occasions. What a sight it is. So, If you have not been to this cluster and viewed this facility you might want to add it to your show schedule. Where else can you have 5 days of shows with 2 supported entries and a specialty as well as a historic area to view? I know I will be back next year. Doreen
