Loveday House Summer Term Newsletter 2014 Housemaster’s Comments I always think that the summer term is the best one. Those who have had to sit through hours of public exams may disagree (thankfully those days are behind me - I just have to mark them now), but light, warm evenings, a multitude of school events and a long summer holiday to look forward to all help to make it a fun term. This newsletter highlights the enormous amount of endeavour that the boys in the house have engaged in despite the fact that every single one of them have sat major examinations - we are not a school or house that just says everything stops in the summer, the opposite is probably true. I hope it gives you a good taster as to what the Loveday community has been involved in: there are plenty of successes of course, a few near misses and lots of effort being given. I am sure you will agree with me that the boys learn from all three of these experiences. As ever, the summer term brings with it some sad farewells: we say goodbye to one Upper Fifth and twenty Upper Sixth leavers and wish them all every success and happiness in the future. The Upper Sixth have led the house with energy and purpose and I thank them for their efforts. We also say goodbye to several tutors: Mrs Chris Allison has been snapped up in the transfer market by South House and goes there with our best wishes and thanks; Mrs Laurence Ardley is moving to pastures new in Switzerland after several years of caring tutoring to Loveday boys – ‘bon chance’! Finally we say good bye to Mr Richard Allon-Smith and Mr Rob Clarke who are retiring. These gentlemen have given fourteen and eleven years respectively to the house and helped countless Loveday boys in their time here. I thanked them formally at House Prayers but would like to wish them both happy and enjoyable retirements and my sincere gratitude for their commitment to Loveday. I wish you all a lovely summer and look forward to catching up again in September. Andy Logan
