Junior House Golf: G. McIntyre We went into the house golf not really knowing how it would go as we had no idea what our rivals were like. But willing to give it their best shot were Gregor McIntyre, James Vickery, Angus Burns, Cameron Scheijde and Will Gudgeon. It was the best of 5 with each player playing 9 holes. James Vickery got cubit an early 1-0 lead as he won his game but then we went 2-1 down. However, Will won his game meaning it was up to Gregor. Unfortunately, Gregor lost his match on the last putt and cubit were beaten very narrowly by East.

House Cricket: K. Suresh The Cubitt House senior cricket team had the privilege of playing on Jubilee in their first house match, drawn against a hyped up Loveday side (justifiably, as we later found out). On probably the hottest day of the year yet, Cubitt merrily jogged onto the field after putting Loveday in to bat. Loveday were blessed with the coveted school First XI opening pair. However the partnership did not last long as, to Cubitt's delight, Ben Wilson inflicted a slick run out to dismiss the schools top run scorer. A combination of good bowling and atrocious fielding led to Loveday posting a par but not unassailable score. Unfortunately Cubitt's batting was not up to par, and lets just say the number eleven batsmen could not enjoy the sun for too long. Cubitt met North in the third and fourth placing match. North, to everyone's surprise, decided to turn up to the party and caught an over confident Cubitt side unaware. They posted a total of 150 which Cubitt failed to chase, falling ten runs short. Junior House Cricket: O. Trower Cubitt went into the house cricket as favourites in the first game against East. Cubitt batted first and did not have the best start as Ollie Trower got out on the first ball of the game. Sam Guinness and Lewis Bedford went on and excelled with the bat along with Charlie Terry coming in and scoring some entertaining sixes. Cubitt ended with a score of 110 in their 10 overs. East managed to get a good start but Ollie Trower picked up the first wicket, however the highlight was most certainly Jamie Pudge getting 2 wickets in his first over. Cubitt were unable to defend the total and East got it with only 1 over to spare. In the second game the Cubitt team played North and again batted first. This time Lewis Bedford and Ollie Trower reached a 96 partnership and Sam Guinness came in and hit some great shots ending with a total of 127. Charlie Terry and James Vickery bowled very well taking 3 wickets early on. Ollie Trower came on after the great opening spell and took 3 wickets with a good catch on the boundary taken by Matt Forster. The team finished the game with North only getting in the 90s. Cubitt won and came 3rd overall.

Charity Triathlon: J. House

This year the Cubitt Charity Day took the form of an ancient Olympian Triathlon with a modern, Cubittian twist; involving cycling, football and a Wii competition. After reining in a slightly ambitious proposed cycle to the coast and back, we did a 10 mile loop to Bramley. Special mention to the thunderous Rob Harrison for a Block-esque performance completing the route in under 35 minutes, however Rob is yet to do it on a tandem and with 2 kilograms of facial hair. The eight-a-side football competition was played in great spirit with Toby Chesser heroically sacrificing the fettle of his limb in the name of equality and freedom from oppression. His disjointed arm was symbolic of the fragmented society we live in and in the same way the San fixed his arm, we have strived towards repairing humanity, bringing egalitarianism through the charitable activities of the day. Once again I called upon my brothers to step forth and carry the torch of liberty to illuminate areas of tyrannical darkness and as one, they answered resoundingly with gumption and prowess: "We will!"

Cubitt has enjoyed not only another all-round successful year (however one may try to measure it!) but also, notably, a particularly happy and social year; with much laughter and fun being enjoyed by all. This is very much the tone that has been set by our Upper Sixth leavers, ably by Henry Crinage and his team of prefects, who have brought a real commitment, kindness as well as sense of camaraderie and humour to all facets of House life. Their year group has a particularly strong sense of togetherness and support for one another that has been forged here and I am confident that these friendships will stand the test of time; they leave with thanks and our very best wishes for the future. The other vital ingredient has been our wonderful team of tutor and matrons and their dedication, verve and deep sense of pastoral care has enriched the place and the lives of the boys enormously. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to the support of the tutor team, the matrons and cleaners, without whom the house would a far harder ship to steer. Sadly though, we have to say farewell to two tutors: Mr Stuart Welch is moving to be Deputy Housemaster in Loveday and it truly is Cubitt’s loss to lose a tutor who cares deeply for the pupils and has a real grip on the realities of teenagers lives. Mr Jon Monk is leaving not only Cubitt but also Cranleigh to take up a position at Latimer School after three very successful years at Cranleigh. We wish them both the very best and their presence will be sorely missed. I am pleased to say though that moving the other way to replace them in September are Mr Gordon Neil, returning to Cubitt after a two year sabbatical in West and Mrs Olivia Ravilious who returns to Cubitt after her maternity leav,e via a short stay in East. We are delighted to welcome them back into the Cubitt fold! September also sees us welcome a new member of the Common Room to Cubitt, Mr Paul Lewthwaite, who joins us in the Art department. Finally, I would like to wish everyone a wonderful summer and hopefully we will see some sun before too long!

House Tennis: W. Slynn Despite some awful conditions, the house tennis was played in great spirit. Cubittians turned out in various forms of fancy dress. Some shocking performances from myself and Rob Zorab let the rest of the team down. However, due to the fine performances of Alex Clarke, Weston Lord, Chris Linford and Charlie Thomson we finished in second place over all; a great result considering the strength of some of the houses.
