Parking: The nearest public car park is situated outside Cranleigh Leisure Centre, a short walk from the venue. Parking is free after 6.30pm.

Limited disabled parking is available at the rear of the Arts Centre.

By Bus: Cranleigh is well served by buses running to and from Guildford, Horsham and Godalming.

Buses stop directly outside the Arts Centre, and across the road next to the library.

Primary School Bangers SATURdAY 1 MARCH, 7.30PM £20.50 The surprise smash hit that’s selling out theatres across the UK comes to Cranleigh. Join James for an evening of pure nostalgia, stepping back in time with some joyous singalong tunes to take you back to your Primary School days. You won’t have to sit cross legged on the school hall floor, but you will be encouraged to sing along! As well as the assembly bangers, there will be other musical surprises, school disco mashups and comic reflections on growing up in the 90s.

WEdNESdAY 12 MARCH, 6PM Free Admission The breadth of musical experience at Cranleigh School extends through an enormous range of musical genres across the 7-18 age range, creating opportunities to engage with a wonderfully diverse range of styles both as performers and audience members. Our pupils put on around sixty events per year, ranging from Choral Evensong to full orchestral concerts. Here, some of our advanced musicians give a recital of solo and chamber music, alongside the Prep School Choir, embracing and showcasing our philosophy of celebrating musical diversity.

Across a Love Locked Bridge THURSdAY 13 MARCH, 7.30PM £10 Following its acclaimed run at the Edinburgh Fringe, Across a Love Locked Bridge arrives at Cranleigh Arts for a night of captivating poetry and storytelling.

Rites of passage and coming-of-age memoir lead seamlessly into adult reflections on life and loss.

Funny, sad and tender. A good-humoured reflection of the magic of everyday experience, and a brokenhearted triumph of love over grief. Humane, warm and witty. Join us for an intimate performance followed by a post-show talk / Q&A with the show’s creators; hosted by poet Sam Turton.

Jake Lambert: The Sunshine Kid FRIdAY 14 MARCH, 8PM £16.50 Jake Lambert is going on his first national tour.

Described as "A joke machine" by The Telegraph, the show will see the comedian talk about trying to navigate his way through everyday life, why he has a fear of being normal, and asking why we all feel the need to ask strangers what breed their dogs are.

It seems the perfect time for his first tour too; his online videos have gained over 150 million views and he has been supporting Michael McIntyre on his worldwide tour.

Have you ever wondered what it’s like being a film and television stunt person? How do you become one? How much fun is it performing stunts? Now you can have these questions and many more answered.

You will have seen Juliette Cheveley performing stunts in so many films you know and love, such as Harry Potter, Cruella, Gravity and Beetlejuice - you just didn’t know it! Juliette will be giving a talk answering these questions and any more you may have. This event is a fundraiser for Cranleigh Scouts.

ROH: Romeo and Juliet

THURSdAY 20 MARCH, 7.15PM £19.75, Under 25s £15.50 Music by Sergei Prokofiev - Choreography by Kenneth MacMillan The Capulets and Montagues are sworn enemies. Yet it is love at first sight for Romeo and Juliet when they meet each other at the ball, into which Romeo has snuck. The two fall in love and they profess their devotion at Juliet’s balcony. They secretly get married.

The stakes are raised for the young couple when Romeo avenges the death of his friend Mercutio who has been killed by Tybalt, Juliet’s cousin.

FRIdAY 21 MARCH, 7.30PM £20, Under 25s £10 26-year-old Julian is, quite simply, an exceptional concert pianist. His programme will be a wonderful, varied feast of Chopin including the great PolonaiseFantasy in Ab major. He moved to France after winning the 2015 Long-Thibaud-Crespin international competition at the age of 16, becoming the youngest prize-winner in the competition's history. He has since won prizes at international piano competitions, performed as soloist with many of the finest orchestras and recorded with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and the London Mozart Players.

TUESdAY 1 APRIL, 1PM Free Admission Two fine, young, chamber musicians, already with exciting, emerging careers. This season, the duo is performing in Istanbul, Ankara, Bursa, London, Wales and Scotland. As well as a talented violinist, Ezo is a composer - her folk inspired compositions are premiering at the Barbican in 2025. This programme features Piazzolla’s ‘Le grand tango’, Korngold’s theatre music ‘Much Ado About Nothing’, Lili Boulanger’s beautiful ‘3 Pieces’ and Ezo’s own variations on ‘Autumn Leaves’.

From Murray Head and Blossom Toes to Rod Stewart and Katie Melua, the evening is both irreverent and captivating. It has not been an easy journey but it emerged from each crisis stronger and better, dedicated “to enrich, entertain and inspire” the people of Cranleigh.

After an early career in theatre, TV and teaching, Scott turned to political journalism in 2015 and subsequently wrote for the Independent, New Statesman, Politico and Byline Times. April Adele Parks: It’s a Marathon Not a Sprint

FRIdAY 25 APRIL, 7PM £12.50 In conversation with her husband Jim Parks, the audience will be treated to genuine insight into the mechanics behind the magic. Adele and Jim will discuss the incredible highs, occasional lows and the basic plodding that is required to sustain a 25-year career and become the sort of novelist who is a household name. Movement and Wellness Saturday Sessions: Open Yoga Workshop with Sarra Whicheloe SATURdAY 9.30AM - 10.45AM ON APRIL 5TH, MAY 3Rd, JUNE 7TH £18 (Early Bird £15) Develop sensitivity and strength in the body through a fun exploration of Arm Balances. Over the three sessions you will progress from the Earring posture to the Crane posture. Sarra has been teaching at Cranleigh Arts since 2008. She has a wealth of experience to make yoga accessible and enjoyable.

Slower Paced Yoga Class with Sarra TUESdAYS 12.30PM - 1.30PM Drop-in £16, 4 classes £60, Monthly Subscription £12 per class This class is a more considered pace which is helpful for those of a certain age, stamina or stiffness. Attend regularly to enjoy greater freedom of movement, better posture and stability. Yoga equipment, like chairs and bolsters, are used to make postures more accessible. Beginners are welcome.

Sound Bath SATURdAYS 15 MARCH, 12 APRIL, 10 MAY, 11AM £20 Experience the calming sounds of gongs, singing bowls and gentle percussion in a sound bath for relaxation and wellbeing. Therapeutic sound sessions can have a wide range of benefits for our health and wellness, and they are growing in popularity as a natural approach to self-care.

Participants should bring a yoga mat, blanket, pillow, eye covering and water bottle to make sure they can rest comfortably during the session.

Sound baths are not generally recommended for people with heart conditions, seizures or epilepsy, or in the 1st trimester of pregnancy.

Our beautiful and spacious gallery features large arched windows original to the building, offering superb natural light so you can enjoy the artwork to its fullest. Exhibitors include professional artists, local groups, schools and colleges, highprofile touring displays, community initiatives, and projects linked to the work done at Cranleigh Arts.

The gallery has plenty of seating so that you can take in the fabulous displays while enjoying something from our small café, located immediately opposite the gallery, which serves a variety of drinks, snacks and refreshments, and is open Tuesday – Saturday, 10 am – 4.30 pm.

Handmade at Cranleigh

Handmade at Cranleigh is a small retail craft outlet within Cranleigh Arts selling highquality handmade gifts, jewellery and decorative items. It’s the perfect place to find a unique gift for a loved one or to treat yourself to something special and you’ll be supporting both local crafters and Cranleigh Arts as we take a percentage of all sales.

Items sold include hand-thrown porcelain tableware; earthenware mugs, wood-turned vases, bowls and pens; wooden boxes and picture frames; jewellery – gold, silver, beaded, knitted wire; textiles, including cushions, handbags and textile taxidermy.

There is also a beautiful range of artists’ cards.

You can browse the display cabinets in our foyer and in the corridor alongside the Jack Wagg auditorium and make your purchases at our box office whenever we’re open.

Seating Our auditorium is a flexible space. For some events extra rows are added at the front of the auditorium and when these are present the front row will be AA, the second row BB, followed by rows A, B, etc. Please make yourself aware of the seating arrangements for individual events when booking and do ask at the box office if you are at all unsure and need clarification.

Standing events will usually have limited seating available in the balcony upstairs (which is not wheelchair accessible).

These seats cannot be reserved and are on a first come, first served basis unless advertised with a ticket price. Please note that rows L and M in the balcony offer a slightly restricted view and are not sold for cinema screenings.

Access Our auditorium is accessible by wheelchair and where an event uses raked seating, spaces for wheelchair users and those with visual or mobility impairments will be allocated in the front row. However, as it is a flexible space with a variety of layouts, it is often not possible to make wheelchair accessible seating available via online booking. Please contact the box office directly on 01473 278000 and they will be very happy to assist. We offer a complimentary ticket for a carer or support worker enabling attendance at an event. Please note that wheelchair accessible seating is limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. An inductive loop is fitted in our auditorium. Three disabled parking spaces are available at the rear of our venue.

Ticket Levy All ticket prices include a small ticket levy. This fee helps us to cover the costs of our administration and technology. All published prices include the ticket levy and VAT where applicable. We do not charge any booking or card fees.

To celebrate its 50th year, former trustee Clive Wouters has written a book recording the history of the ups and downs of Cranleigh Arts and the people who have contributed to its enduring success.

Its origins lie in a group of local societies who needed somewhere to meet, run workshops and present exhibitions and entertainments.

A public meeting was held in June 1974 Clive W when the Cranleigh Arts & Leisure Trust outers was constituted. Its intention was to raise funds for a purpose-built home on railway land behind M&S but eventually a temporary home was offered in the old School building. By 1978, after much wrangling, this was formally opened with a week-long arts festival to bring into being the Cranleigh Arts Centre.

Visionary people have shaped the story. In the 1980s Jack Wagg guided its development towards a truly community-based centre with a plan for how the building could be improved as money was found to enhance the facilities. This came to fruition in 1988 when National Lottery money allowed for the creation of the main hall.

Money has always been scarce. Fundraising schemes and grants do supplement the income from arts activities but twice its future has been threatened by insolvency and imminent closure. Local politics have played a part in the story too when Waverley Borough Council, as owners, have intervened.

“Cranleigh Arts is the envy of many and the jewel in the crown of the village as it has expanded and changed,” says Clive, who was head of performing arts at Hurtwood House until his retirement in 2012. “It has not been an easy journey but it emerged from each crisis stronger and better, dedicated to ‘enrich, entertain and inspire’ the people of Cranleigh. Set against local and national economic and arts trends this is also a case study of how community arts provision has fared in the last 50 years.”
