We understand that everyone’s journey is different, so we offer many alternative pathways into our courses.
SKILLS FOR TERTIARY EDUCATION PREPARATORY STUDIES (STEPS)
STEPS is a Centrelink‑approved enabling program that has helped thousands of Australians gain entry into university. Tailored to you and your unique study goals, STEPS is designed to help you return to study or work after some time away, complete prerequisite subjects for entry into your chosen degree, or give you the confidence and skills to successfully enter and undertake university study. RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)
RPL recognises skills and knowledge that you’ve acquired via informal learning. This may occur via workshops, training events, voluntary work or on the job. To obtain RPL, you need to be currently or recently working in the industry that you are wishing to be recognised for.
The RPL process involves an assessment of knowledge, skills and experience. Your skills will be assessed against industry standards by an RPL Assessor after your application and your supporting evidence has been submitted and processed. For more information visit cqu.edu.au/rpl
TAFE QUALIFICATION
If you hold a certificate III, certificate IV or diploma qualification, you may meet specified entry score requirements for many of our associate, bachelor and bachelor with honours degrees.

PRINCIPAL’S RECOMMENDATION SCHEME

Our Principal’s Recommendation Scheme provides Year 12 students with an alternate entry pathway, based on their school principal’s recommendation rather than an ATAR. It’s an ideal pathway for all year 12 students, especially if you haven’t studied for an ATAR, or you’ve experienced circumstances that may have impacted your senior schooling results. START UNI NOW (SUN)
Our SUN program is a valuable alternate entry pathway for high school students thinking about studying a CQU undergraduate course. After successful completion of a SUN unit during your senior high school years, you may be eligible to apply for direct entry into your preferred course (excluding quota‑managed courses) and receive credit towards your degree. START TAFE NOW (STN)
Start TAFE Now is an ideal entry pathway option that offers high school students the opportunity to study a certificate I, II, III, IV or diploma level course, in a wide variety of disciplines. Benefit from developing real trade skills and qualifications, while completing secondary school. In Queensland, you can study a TAFE course as part of your Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE), and earn QCE points. FEES AND SCHOLARSHIPS
CQUniversity is committed to making education accessible. We offer competitive fees along with a generous variety of scholarships.
COSTS AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT
The cost of a course varies depending on what you are studying. You may also need to factor in other costs, such as living expenses, stationery, textbooks and equipment, including safety glasses, laboratory coats, gym clothes or a uniform. The Australian Government offers a number of financial support programs, like VET Student Loans, HECS HELP, FEE‑HELP and OS HELP to support eligible students while studying. TAFE SUBSIDISED TRAINING

As a Skills Assure provider, CQU offers a range of Queensland Government subsidised programs available for TAFE courses covering skill sets, certificate and diploma qualifications. CQUniversity offers a comprehensive range of scholarships, bursaries and awards providing both opportunities and financial support. AVAILABILITY
CQU has 20+ locations around Australia, so to fit them in our Course Directory we’ve used abbreviations, which you can find in the legend below. Some courses also offer online or mixed mode study options. Search ‘study modes’ on our website to learn more.
PREREQUISITES
These are subjects you must have studied at school. In brackets you’ll find the prerequisite units required and minimum grade you must achieve to meet the listed prerequisite. If it’s been a while since you left school, your post‑school experience such as work experience, volunteering or community activities may meet these requirements. If you don’t have the prerequisites needed, our alternate entry pathways may help you gain entry into your chosen course.
INTAKES
Intake is the time of year you can start a course. We have three terms: Term 1 starts in March, Term 2 starts in July and Term 3 starts in November. TAFE courses may list the months they begin, or ‘multiple’ which means they may have many intakes so it’s best to check our website. ‘Anytime’ relates to our hyperflexible, online courses where study is self‑paced and you can start at any time throughout the year.
DURATION
This is the minimum time, in years, required to complete a course full time or part time.
ATAR/SR
This is the minimum selection threshold. ATAR stands for the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank, and SR means Selection Rank. If you don’t have an ATAR or SR get in touch with us to talk about the range of options available to you. Check the Important Notes on the inside back cover of this guide for more information on selection thresholds.

BUSINESS AND ACCOUNTING
WHERE CAN ACCOUNTING COURSES TAKE YOU?

If you are interested in becoming a professional accountant, our Bachelor of Accounting or dual degrees in accounting and business or accounting and laws will provide the qualifications needed for recognition by the Australian accounting bodies. The dual degrees also allow you to build your accounting knowledge within a multidisciplinary context while majoring in accounting.

CROSS‑INSTITUTIONAL STUDY
If you are enrolled as an undergraduate or course work postgraduate student at another institution and wish to undertake CQUniversity units, you may choose to apply for cross‑institutional study. SINGLE NON‑AWARD UNITS
If you want to update or expand your knowledge in a specific area without committing to an entire course, you may wish to apply to study a single non‑award unit. CQUniversity has a range of accredited and non‑accredited short courses in a wide variety of interest areas. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Our Centre for Professional Development offers a variety of non‑award short courses and micro‑credentials to meet mandatory professional development requirements, as well as industry workforce development needs.
You can enrol at any time. The courses are self‑paced, allowing you to complete them within a flexible timeframe.
Successful completion of a professional development course will be awarded with a Digital Badge and a Certificate of Completion, as evidence of your learning. You may be eligible for credit transfer and/or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) into some courses offered at the University on a case‑by‑case basis. Course commencement is dependent on sufficient enrolments. Different study periods apply for TAFE and university courses. Many TAFE courses offer multiple monthly intakes. Mixed Mode availability is unique to TAFE courses only and is a combination of online learning activities in addition to compulsory site‑specific learning activities.
