STUDY ENGLISH FOR FREE
You can improve your English language skills and equip yourself for academic studies at no cost when you enrol in any CQUEnglish packaged pathway with an academic course. This offer is available in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, and applies to your first attempt at each level.
Our free English courses will help reduce some financial pressure so you can focus on your studies and make the most of your learning experience.
We have new class intakes approximately every five weeks. Each 10‑week course includes 20 hours of tuition per week as well as independent learning tasks.

Our classes are organised around the content of a typical IELTS exam and give you the opportunity to develop your English skills and become more familiar with the IELTS test format. Available at our Brisbane campus, the IELTS Preparation course is specifically for students with a current IELTS 6.5 score who require IELTS 7.0 for their CQU course.

Depending on your choice of accommodation, it is possible to organise where you will live before you arrive in Australia. Living at one of our student residences, managed student accommodation and homestay are easy to organise beforehand using our preferred providers.


Be wary of organising a private rental from overseas as in most cases you do need to view a property in person before applying.
LIVING COST
The cost of living varies depending on the location, accommodation type and lifestyle you choose. The table below reflects basic living costs and does not include tuition fees, air tickets, student visa application fees, medical examinations for student visa application, OSHC and study related costs, such as textbooks.
When you first arrive, you will need to consider establishment costs such as bond payment, advance rent, furniture and other household items. If you have a car, you will need to consider vehicle registration and maintenance costs.

STUDENT VISA
If you intend to study in Australia, you will require a student visa for the duration of your studies. Once you have received your visa, there will be conditions you need to meet to ensure your visa remains valid.

TEMPORARY GRADUATE VISA
If you complete two years of a bachelor degree, masters degree or PhD in Australia, you could be eligible for a Temporary Graduate Visa, which allows you to live and work in Australia for two or more years.

WORKING WHILE STUDYING
From 1 July 2023, work restrictions for student visa holders will be re introduced and capped at the increased rate of 48 hours per fortnight. Students must ensure they are aware of any changes to visa conditions, including work rights.
All people working in Australia have basic workplace rights and protections, including minimum pay and conditions. You will need to obtain a Tax File Number (TFN).

GETTING AROUND
Public transport is an affordable, convenient option and is available at all our campus locations. Options include a bus, train, tram or ferry, depending on where you live. Some states provide discounted concessions for international students.
BRINGING FAMILY

RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS
Residential schools may be compulsory or recommended, and vary in duration. They are usually conducted at a CQUniversity campus where an intensive block of classes allows you to obtain practical hands‑on experience and network with lecturers, other students and in some cases industry specialists.
RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
If you have previously studied at another university or institution within the last ten years, or have professional experience, you may be eligible for recognition of prior learning (also known as advanced standing, credit exemption and credit transfer).
Recognition of prior learning must be applied for at the time of applying for your course. Your qualifications and professional experience will be assessed on a case‑by‑case basis. Confirmation of approved credits will be made when you receive an Offer of Admission.

STUDY OPTIONS
STUDY MODES ON CAMPUS
If you are in Australia on a student visa you must study full time on campus. While in Australia, you are able to undertake some units within your course online provided it is: no more than 33 per cent of your entire course; approved by the University; and not entirely online in a compulsory term.
ONLINE
We have a strong record in delivering courses and units in highly advanced and innovative online environments, including Moodle, Zoom, online live classrooms and other online tools to maximise staff and student interaction.
By choosing to study online, you’ll have the flexibility to study a world‑class Australian qualification and graduate with the same qualification, all from the comfort of your home. If you choose to study online, you may choose part time or full time to study at your own pace. This is a perfect option if you need to balance work or family commitments or upskill to get ahead in your career. Some courses require you to attend a residential school in Australia for a short period of time.
Note: studying online is only available to international students who hold a temporary visa or do not live in Australia.

STUDY FULL OR PART TIME FULL TIME
For an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree, a standard full‑time load consists of 24 credit points per term. You can expect a maximum of 16 hours on campus each week, consisting of four hours per unit.
PART TIME
Part‑time study is only available to international students who are not on a student visa. You must not live in Australia and be enrolled in online study. A part‑time load consists of fewer than four units per term.

Prepare all supporting documents, these include:

Certified documents are photocopies that have been viewed along with the original document by an authorised person who will stamp them as being authentic copies. It may be from a Justice of the Peace, Commissioner of Declaration, a contracted agent of CQUniversity or the issuing authority of the institution.
4 Apply for Student Visa
Once you receive your CoE you, or your agent, can apply for your student visa via the Department of Home Affairs. homeaffairs.gov.au/trav/visa/ appl/student
Allow at least three months for your student visa.

5 Organise travel
Once you receive your visa, you can organise your travel to Australia. Our teams can provide advice on airport pick‑up and short and long‑term accommodation options.

Applying for a Research Higher Degree
Prospective research candidates must apply through iStart via cqu.edu.au/international-apply with an Expression of Interest.
Depending upon the outcome of your Expression of Interest, you may be invited to submit a full application for admission. The University reserves the right to refuse admission to any applicant.
* Certified academic documents are not mandatory at the time of application. You may receive a conditional offer until documents are received and conditions are met.
^ Application assessment time frame may take longer if applying for credit exemptions or research.
3 Accept your offer
If your application is successful, you or your agent (if you appointed one) will receive the Offer of Admission via email. Your offer letter will include important information on:
» your course, duration and commencement date
» tuition fees and the deposit payable
» the fee for visa length Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). Note: if you are arranging your own OSHC (in full) we will require a copy of the insurance document
» conditions that need to be met, if any.
Once all conditions are met, your offer accepted and payment made, CoE (Confirmation of Enrolment) is issued within 2 business days.

We offer three terms per year for higher education so, depending on your course, you can start at the beginning of the year, mid-year or towards the end of the year.
Term 3 is not compulsory – it is another study option to provide you with the opportunity to start your study at a time more convenient to you, or to fast track your study and get into the workforce sooner.

Each term runs for approximately 12 weeks with university breaks. TERM

Students are encouraged to lodge their applications at least two to four months prior to when you want to study.
