Siamo tre giovani aspiranti architetti coscienti dell’importanza delle aree verdi nel contesto cittadino. In questa esperienza progettuale abbiamo approfondito le dinamiche di sviluppo di un’area verde che negli anni a venire potrebbe diventare una risorsa preziosa per la città di Milano. QUALITATIVE ANALYSIES
BOUNDARIES and connection shape BOUNDERING AND CONNECTION SHAPE In this diagram, we intend to show the hierarchy of the roads/paths of the area in order to have, first an idea of the nature of the areas (agriculture, romantic park, historical grid...) but also to be able to analyse the presence or lack of connection between the different parts of the park. The diagram shows the richness in the diversity of the area but also the disconnection of the different paths (in red). In fact, we can see that the walkable areas are completely disconnected and this underlines that the actual situation of the park is a patchwork of different disjoined areas. Of course, there are other elements of disconnection and enclosure. These elements may be natural (as Lambro River) but also human made (Railways and highways) usually resulting of the expansion of the city.

SPORT activities Sport activities in Forlanini attract a great concentration of people able to participate, in the future improving the functionality and the efficiency of the park. Considering the strong presence of sport complex (private) but also multisport areas (public) in the central area of the park and on the area of Idroscalo, we may consider these two zones as magnets. In this case, with magnet we intend areas that already wroks as an attraction for people.

OVERFLOWING map The water flooding problem is one of the consequences of the artificial banks that have been added to the Lambro River, where the banks have been tighten making hard to the river to contain the quantity of water in case of abundance, and for this reason, the flooding phenomena is very frequent in this area. Close to via Taverna/via Salesina, the only accessible and walkable area of the banks, the flood situation is the worst. The flux of water of the river is very diverse during the year, and in case of rainfall, this flux increases a lot also due to the presence of Golf Forlanini’s hills.

In the agricultural zones of the park, we noticed a high and terrible invasion of mosquitoes that causes serious problems of exploitation of the area. The presence of such a country situation in the park is very rare in a metropolitan city as Milan, and for this reason we intend to use a natural and ecological tool; local plants along the internal paths that wroks as a repellent for mosquitoes and helps to improve the confort of a promenade.

FIRST PHASE Get over the barriers Throught a tunnel and two pedestrian bridges, we will get throught the natural and human-made barriers that split the park into pieaces. The railways, the Lambro river and the highway won’t present a barrier anymore.
SECOND PHASE Main point acces In three point accesses, we will redevelop the space to improve its quality but also, thanks to these strategic areas, the connection between and across several areas of the park will be restored.
THIRD PHASE From City Center to Idroscalo As a last phase, all the fragments of the area will finally be connected and it will be possible to reach Idroscalo from the City Center of Milan thanks to a continous bike/pedestrian lane that crosses Grande Parco Forlanini along the east/west axis.

The location of this atypical industrial area is very important as it’s along the direct way to reach Idroscalo from the city center, and in another point of view, to reach the park from segrate. - THE RIVER BANKS: we intend to restore the river banks with a natural slope but also to use a natural and ecological tool to prevent the erosion of the soil.

The timetable shows how small actions in the different areas allows to unity all the park in termes of quality, identity and connection. All the intervention are done on a time based actions that may change along pass of time. The first actions are mainly based on a list of constrains, for example if an area is fenced but has potentiality in improving the quality of the park, the first action will be to remove the fence in order to make accessible the aea. After these first small actions that often envolve the comunity throught WORKSHOPS, on a time based calendar, we intend to organize events as SPEED ACTIVITIES in order to promote the new aspects and changes that offers the area. We think that involving the community in some actions, as providing to the costruction of urban furniture, we create a feeling of appartenence and affection toward the park. When all the areas will be completely activated and act as MAGNETS, the connection trougth a bike/pedestrian lane along all the park will finally unify the whole area and we will finally reach the goal of IL GRANDE PARCO FORLANINI.

For the area on the corner with Via Cavriana, and since it’s missing in Milan, we want to create a Campers’ Parking, host the Service Area in the ex.Crazy Jungle and to use the outsider paved area as a recreative area to serve the travellers.

Using the old containers from the m4 workers village to create a visual portal that helps mainly in both connecting and discovering the other parts of forlanini park keeping the visual identity of the place in addition to transforming the A51 highway into a more permeable buffer that connects east/west side of the park. Re-using the old military area as an interactive urban park wich inlets a more accessible point into the actual core of Forlanini giving the chance to the immigrants to interact with the public.

Insuring the visual identity, using identity gates to achieve the consistency between the area of novegro and the rest of the Park. Re-using the old parking zones to extend the green spaces as a part of the identity connection, emphasising that path by using linear allignments of trees as shown. Recessing the old brick wall inside recreating another space that could be accessible from the opposite platform.

Transforming the old excess parking lot into a green garden to be blended with the nearby school so the children can have a save buffer while they are waiting for their parents. Transforming the old school conventinal wall into an interactive boldering wall that the kids can use for fun activity. Creating a safe crossing zebra with colored lanes and a splet level that works as an extra safety filter as it slows the cars motion.

The park is a vast space of green unused spaces that has different characteristics for each zone, in which the park gains its strength. The aim was to keep the value of diversity into the park space, but using the visual elements as a part of praising the value of park consistency in terms of coherence and connection. The park identity is connected via 2 elements : 1-Park gates. 2-watching towers.
