Mr Niraj More is the Managing Director of Grauer & Weil (India) Ltd (GWIL), the flagship company of the multi-dimensional Growel Group - pioneers in the field of manufacturing, real estate development and finance, shares insights about the company in an exclusive interview with Bernard Rapose.

What led to the setting up of Grauer & Weil (India) Ltd or affectionately called Growel?

Grauer & Weil (India) Ltd or GWIL’s genesis goes back to 1957 when a team of young entrepreneurs with a long-standing repute in the plating industry, formed a partnership company, Grauer and Weil in collaboration with Grauer and Weil of the UK. The company’s activities in the early days were focussed on the manufacture of products like polishing compounds, mops and fibre wheels. Subsequently, it acquired and adopted newer technologies and enlarged its product range to include pre-treatment and basic chemicals. In 1969, the management changed hands and the control came to rest with a business family promoted by the Mores.

What does your company specialise in and for which industry is it applicable? What has your company always been striving for?

GWIL is a pioneer in the field of surface treatment technology, specialised chemicals, as also engineering plants for the

electroplating industry. It has consolidated its leadership position in the domestic surface finishing industry. GWIL enjoys more than 40 per cent market share in the Indian electroplating market. GWIL is the only company in India and among the few companies in the world that are present across the entire spectrum of electroplating. GWIL also makes an array of industrial lubricants and protective paints/ coatings. It caters to a wide range of industries including automotive, electrical and electronics, hardware, jewellery, plating on plastics, as also marine, infrastructure, oil and gas and other heavy industries. Its products also find usage in nuclear, space and defence applications, where the clients include ISRO, BARC, HAL and DRDO. We at Growel relentlessly strive to develop and supply products and services that are eco-friendly and pocket-friendly to all our valued customers.

Tell us about Growel’s vision, mission and organisation values. What are the various Certifications acquired and what has been the key achievement of your company over the past few years?

The company has been recently awarded the AS9100 Aerospace Certification from the BSI Group, which is the management standard in the aerospace industry. GWIL has become the first chemicals and paints industry to receive the Certification. Growel is an ISO 9001: 2008 certified organization.

While recommending a perfect solution for your customers, what are the things you take into consideration?

Our experts understand the client requirements thoroughly keeping in view the usage, industry, geography and timelines.

Keeping with times, we constantly update them with newer and more efficient processes. We ensure the best solution in the industry is provided to our clients.

The company also represents foreign manufacturers. How does this add to the image and value of Growel? Is there a plan to represent more companies in India in the near future?

During the course of 60 years the company has partnered with many international organisations to get the best of technologies to the Indian subcontinent.

At present, the company has signed a technology transfer and license agreement with Herbert Schmidt GmbH & Co KG (HSO), Germany for the manufacture and sale of their entire range of products for plating on plastic on an exclusive basis in India surrounding countries. We have consistently looked out for strategic partnerships with global technology providers. GWIL has entered into collaboration with SIDASA, a division of Cromogenia of Spain to augment its industrial lubricants and oil business. In high performance paints and coatings, the company has tied-up with TransOcean coatings, the Netherlands, which is a worldwide association of paint producers.

GWIL, in collaboration with NOF Metal Coatings group, Japan, is offering specialised non-electrolytic zinc and aluminium flake water-based coatings.

GROWEL has tied-up with Transocean Coatings, the Netherlands, which develops, manufactures and sells anti-foulings, anticorrosives and many more coatings for ships, offshore installations, industrial facilities and yachts.

What is the percentage of funds allocated to carry out research work? Does Growel have extensive knowledge spanning industries and continents to provide quality and consistency one can count on?

Our efforts are well backed-up by a centralised R&D centre in Mumbai, which is recognised by the Indian Council of Science and Technology since 1977. 2-3% of funds are allocated to R&D. Besides there are 40 QA laboratories across 24 branch offices and technical service centres. These laboratories function continuously to monitor and support the pan India customers as well as global customers. All the businesses work as SBUs and are backed up by independent teams. The technical service team at Growel is one of the strongest in the country, and strive to give the customers on time solutions to achieve their desired finishes efficiently.

How do you ensure SHE (safety, health and environment) is implemented?

What sort of training do you impart on your work force?

We are certified for ISO14001 and OHSAS 18001. We conduct regular training on environmental aspect, safety awareness and health hazard associated with our process to all concerned. We have defined IMS Policy. All our plants adhere to strict safety guidelines. Regular health workshops are conducted in all our plants for the workers like eye check-ups, basic health check-ups, yoga and wellness sessions to name a few. All our plants promote green environment and minimize industrial waste and carbon footprints.

How do you intend taking CSR (corporate social responsibility) to the next level of PSR (personal social responsibility) The Growel Group, as a conscientious corporate citizen is fully aware of its social responsibility. We continuously undertake initiatives and proactive measures to help the country’s overall human development and better the lives of the less fortunate.

How has the market evolved for Growel products and what has been your strategy towards acquiring greater share in the market both geographically and in terms of capacity addition? What are the shortand long-term plans of the company?

From being just a leading player in the electroplating business, the company has over the last few years consciously tried to emerge as a major player in the entire value chain of surface finishing space. Unlike other players, we at GWIL are in a position to offer a onestop solution to our customers. Our addition of newer businesses has enlarged our portfolio in a big way thus providing us a distinct edge in the market. Strengthening of core businesses and the addition of new businesses will provide the company the much needed momentum, going forward. The company’s well diversified product offering will keep it ahead of competition. Along with manufacturing, real estate will be our focus area, going forward.

We are looking forward to monetise our land parcel in the next few years. We also want to become a complete solution provider in the surface finishing arena.

What is the growth rate you are aiming at during the current fiscal and how is it poised to grow in the next 5 years?

The Company has prepared a roadmap which will take its turnover to over `1,000-1,200 crore in the next four-five years. In the next 3 years we intend to increase our international presence. Our lube and paints market share is expected to grow in the domestic as well as the international market. ◘

Anyone specifying or using electric motors should have a basic understanding how the motor insulation is related to temperature. An electric motor’s insulation system separates electrical components from each other, preventing short circuits and thus winding burnout and failure. he chief enemy of an electric motor's insulation system is heat, so we should be sure that the motor stays within limits for long winding life.

But it can never be judged by feeling the motor's surface.

We cannot accurately judge a motor by feeling its surface. Design temperature ratings apply to the hottest spot within the motor's windings, not how much of that heat is transferred to motor’s surface. The heat transfer will vary greatly from motor to motor based on frame size and mass, whether the frame is smooth or ribbed, whether open or totally enclosed, and other cooling factors. Even the efficiency of the motor may have little effect on surface temperature, eg, a premium efficiency motor (IE3), though it's internal temperature will be cooler as a result of lower losses, may not have lower surface temperatures, because the ventilation fan is likely to be smaller to reduce windage losses. Plus, any motor's frame surface is a quilt of hot spots and cool spots related to internal air circulation patterns.

Temperature

We will begin by identifying some key terms. Temperature rise is the increase in temperature above ambient. Ambient temperature is the temperature of the air in the area surrounding the motor, frequently termed “Room Temperature”.

The sum of the ambient temperature and the temperature rise is the overall or “hot” temperature of a component.

Insulation temperature classes are based on the overall temperature, eg, a Class B winding system is rated 130°C. The

normal maximum ambient as per National Electrical Manufacturer’s Association (NEMA) is 40°C. The temperature rise limit for the Class B would be estimated at 90°C (130-40°C = 90°C).

Ideally, a motor should have a relatively high insulation temperature rating and a relatively low operating temperature for the insulation system. This provides for thermal margin in the event of motor overload, severe starting duty, safety margin for adjustable speed drive applications and for many other reasons.

During the reign of the Class A insulated U-frame motors, it was common practice to determine whether a motor was running all right by simply placing hand on it. If the motor was “too hot to touch”, it was overheating. With the advent of T-frame motors and the high temperature insulation that made them possible, this old “rule of thumb” is no longer valid.

Surface (skin) temperatures usually run 20 to 30°C lower than the temperature at the windings. Subtracting 30°C from a Class F insulated motor whose total allowable running temperature is 155°C, results in a skin temperature of 125°C, therefore if T-frame motor is “too hot to touch”, it does not necessarily mean that it is operating improperly. Today’s motors are designed to run hotter than our human hands can tolerate.

uke University researchers have developed tiny nanoparticles that help convert carbon dioxide into methane using only ultraviolet light as an energy source.

Having found a catalyst that can do this important chemistry using ultraviolet light, the team now hopes to develop a version that would run on natural sunlight, a potential boon to alternative energy.

Chemists have long sought an efficient, light-driven catalyst to power this reaction, which could help reduce the growing levels of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere by converting it into methane, a key building block for many types of fuels.

Not only are the rhodium nanoparticles made more efficient when illuminated by light, they have the advantage of strongly favouring the formation of methane rather than an equal mix of methane and undesirable sideproducts like carbon monoxide. This strong “selectivity” of the light-driven catalysis may also extend to other important chemical reactions, the researchers say.

Despite being one of the rarest elements on Earth, rhodium plays a surprisingly important role in our everyday lives. Small amounts of the silvery grey metal are used to speed up or “catalyze” a number of key industrial processes, including those that make drugs, detergents and nitrogen fertilizer, and they even play a major role breaking down toxic pollutants in the catalytic converters of our cars.

Rhodium accelerates these reactions with an added boost of energy, which usually comes in the form of heat because it is easily produced and absorbed. However, high temperatures also cause problems, like shortened catalyst lifetimes and the unwanted synthesis of undesired products.

In the past two decades, scientists have explored new and useful ways that light can be used to add energy to bits of metal shrunk down to the nanoscale, a field called plasmonics.

“Effectively, plasmonic metal nanoparticles act like little antennas that absorb visible

or ultraviolet light very efficiently and can do a number of things like generate strong electric fields,” said Henry Everitt, an adjunct professor of physics at Duke and senior research scientist at the Army's Aviation and Missile RD&E Center at Redstone Arsenal, AL. “For the last few years there has been a recognition that this property might be applied to catalysis.”

Xiao Zhang, a graduate student in Jie Liu’s lab, synthesized rhodium nanocubes that were the optimal size for absorbing near-ultraviolet light. He then placed small amounts of the charcoal-coloured nanoparticles into a reaction chamber and passed mixtures of carbon dioxide and hydrogen through the powdery material.

When Zhang heated the nanoparticles to 300oC, the reaction generated an equal mix of methane and carbon monoxide, a poisonous gas. When he turned off the heat and instead illuminated them with a highpowered ultraviolet LED lamp, Zhang was not only surprised to find that carbon dioxide and hydrogen reacted at room temperature, but that the reaction almost exclusively produced methane.

“We discovered that when we shine light on rhodium nanostructures, we can force the chemical reaction to go in one direction more than another,” Everitt said. “So we get to choose how the reaction goes with light in a way that we cannot do with heat.”

This selectivity - the ability to control the chemical reaction so that it generates the desired product with little or no side-products - is an important factor in determining the cost and feasibility of industrial-scale reactions, Zhang says.

“If the reaction has only 50 per cent selectivity, then the cost will be double what it would be if the selectively is nearly 100 per cent,” Zhang said. “And if the selectivity is very high, you can also save time and energy by not having to purify the product.”

Now the team plans to test whether their light-powered technique might drive other reactions that are currently catalyzed with

heated rhodium metal. By tweaking the size of the rhodium nanoparticles, they also hope to develop a version of the catalyst that is powered by sunlight, creating a solarpowered reaction that could be integrated into renewable energy systems.

“Our discovery of the unique way light can efficiently, selectively influence catalysis came as a result of an on-going collaboration between experimentalists and theorists,” Liu said. “Professor Weitao Yang’s group in the Duke chemistry department provided critical theoretical insights that helped us understand what was happening. This sort of analysis can be applied to many important chemical reactions, and we have only just begun to explore this exciting new approach to catalysis.”

Advantages of AODD Pumps in Sludge Drying and Thickening Applications Ensuring proper sludge formation in filter-press operations is a critical - and potentially lucrative - stage in the surface finishing, waste-handling and wastewater industries.

Therefore, it is imperative that the correct pump technology be chosen to optimize the operation of the centrifuges and evaporators that are central to sludge-formation processes. While piston pumps have been a popular technology for these applications, in-the-field results indicate that a much better choice is the air-operated doublediaphragm (AODD) pump. AODD pumps excel in these applications because they are capable of the high-pressure operation necessary for filter-press processes, along with being dry-run capable, self-priming and self-regulating.

n many industrial processes, substances occur in aqueous or “muddy” form, where the liquid portion must be removed. This may take place during production processes - for example in the filtration of edible oils or yeast solutions - but more frequently occurs at the end of a process in waste sludge from various industries from surface finishes to wastewater treatment.

Since the disposal of such sludges is calculated based on weight and volume, thickening and drying is particularly lucrative. During the process, the sludges are treated using chemicals and/or physical processes so that the substances in it form flake-like solids. After pH-adjustment to neutral or alkaline using milk of lime, the dewatering process separates out water for disposal and the remaining volume of sludge is significantly reduced.

pressure, a “filter cake” forms inside the chambers and the filtrate flows through the filter cloths into drainage channels.

When all the chambers are completely filled, the sludge feed stops. The press can now be opened and the solid filter cake removed. After closing, the press is ready for a new pressing process.

To fill these presses, filter material and pressure is required. The pressure —

usually between 8 and 15 bar at its peak - should be even in order not to destroy the flocs during feeding. The flocs should also have enough free space in the feed area.

In addition to the constantly increasing counter-pressure that occurs until the end of the pressing, a further constraint is the eventuality that an empty-running sludge tank can lead to dry running of the pump being used to generate pressure.

The simplest technology for this process involves collection and thickening of the sludge via gravity. However, it is significantly more effective to use technical drying methods via processes such as centrifuges and evaporators, or more commonly, chamber filter presses (Figure 1).

The principle of a chamber filter press includes a number of plastic frames that are pressed together under high pressure.

Inside the frames are hollow chambers from which the press gets its name - that are surrounded by filter cloth. When the sludge is fed into the chambers using

To build pressure, different variations of displacement pumps are frequently used, including piston diaphragm pumps, which are applied most frequently for large presses. In these large and costly units, one or two diaphragms are hydraulically actuated and feed the sludge into the press via valves. These pumps require large overhead costs even for small plants, such as an air pressure vessel to equalize the feed rate and a maximum pressure monitor or bypass. Eccentric screw pumps are also used, either as self-regulating pumps (with motors that are electronically controlled via a frequency converter) or as cyclical systems (where an air pressure vessel is “charged” by the pump). This valve-free procedure is advantageous when processing large sludge quantities and when long fibers prevent the use of valves. However, there are constraints in small- and medium-sized plants due to their sensitivity to abrasion and dry running. The space required to use this system is also considerable.

This list of pumps also includes hosediaphragm piston pumps, which function in a similar way to piston diaphragm pumps but with crimped hoses rather than diaphragms and piston pumps. The latter piston pumps typically generate strong pulsation and require constant lubrication.

Both of these pumps are characterized by

their simple electrical operation, with fairly high installation and maintenance costs.

By comparison, it is much easier to use an air-operated double-diaphragm (AODD) pump; they are resistant to dry running, virtually maintenance-free, self-priming, self-regulating and highly compact. Without the control or intervention of an operator or electronic system, the counter-pressure of the chamber filter press regulates the feed rate automatically. The feed rate decreases continuously as counter-pressure increases simultaneously to the degree of filling.

This effect can be used to detect when the chamber filter press is full. When this is reached, the pump virtually stops - zero feed rate - or only occasionally makes a delivery stroke. In addition, the use of compressed air as drive power to move the diaphragms, results in a highly efficient, regular and gentle cyclic drive that allows the medium to be fed smoothly.

The force of this diaphragm, which is surrounded only by air and compressed air, is transferred to the feed diaphragm via the internal diaphragm connection, enabling the feed diaphragm to work with double the pressure. This method is rarely used anymore, as it leads to high pulsation, low feed rates and high air requirements. It also commands high service costs as the diaphragm on the air side is very sensitive and breaks quickly.

Another variant is to operate a standard pump with an air pressure amplifier, which drives the pump with increased air pressure. This process is limited by the fact that a standard pump is used most of the times.

Although these pumps are equipped with external reinforcements, from a technical perspective the standard pumps in question are designed and built for significantly lower pressures and as a result only have limited resistance to the increased strain.

Additionally, the increased pressure resulting from these air pressure amplifiers or “boosters” pulsates strongly, which can influence the flow of the product. Boosters also seem to reach their limits in maintaining pressure, ie, during repressing. This is because the devices used are almost always too small. These devices yield the required end pressure, but may require a longer filling time.

A standard AODD pump is typically limited to the pressure of the supplied air, which is often insufficient to fill the press. For this reason, it is often necessary to increase the pressure, for which there are three very different technical solutions: •

which a stroke should take place, a full chamber filter press is indicated by the fact that these rare signals no longer occur within this time window.

The compressed air can be switched off and a signal can be set for the operator to empty the press. This method functions purely by physical means and is independent of sensitive pressure gauges and contaminating sensors in the wastewater current.

The third variant is a pump with internal pressure conversion.

Figure 2 shows how this technical solution applies compressed air to a differential piston along with the diaphragms. The increased surface area - typically twice as large or more - causes the compressed air to generate a corresponding amount of increased force. This converted force acts on the feed diaphragms with increased (double) pressure. The entire construction is designed for the high strain caused by the maximum amount of pressure, as well as the strain caused by the typically abrasive sludge. For this reason, the pump housing is built from materials such as stainless steel or polyethylene (PE-UHMW). This tough material is a decisive factor in the durability of the pump (see Figure 3 abrasion test).

Using compressed air to power a pump is very effective thanks to constructive measures. The pump operates with minimal dead space, ie, the space inside the pump that must be filled without serving the actual feed process. As a result, the pump always has sufficient power reserves to handle large volumes of wastewater.

With the introduction of a new generation of high-pressure AODD pumps, there is now an additional variant that combines

the highly robust housing of the pressureconverting pump with an air section where no conversion takes place (Figure 4).

This version is therefore suitable for all applications under heavy load conditions, ranging from low-feed pressures to highpressure applications of up to 15 bar (218 psig). If the user operates a pump at such high air pressure - whether it is from an external booster or directly from the compressor - they can do so secure in the knowledge that the pump is structurally designed for such pressure ranges and need not be held together by external reinforcements.

On these new pumps, the diaphragms are equipped with specially developed heavy-duty diaphragms with an integrated metal core providing a long service life and the ability to handle heavy loads. The vulcanized core of the diaphragm supports extremely thick layers of elastomer. To transfer the suction forces, the core is also reinforced with a special textile that is barely flexible in any direction.

In addition, these pumps can be combined with the optional use of a sensor that responds to the movements of the diaphragm and allows the cycle to be easily monitored. An intelligent fuel optimizer unit SFO-904, optimises the usage of genset operations in telecommunication towers in the event of mains failure condition.

Instead of turning on the genset immediately upon mains failure, it checks the shelter battery voltage condition as well as the shelter temperature before activating the starting of the genset. By the optimised usage of genset, this unit will reduce fuel consumption. This unit can be smoothly integrated to any AMF panel currently installed in telecom towers. It continuously monitors the EB supply healthy condition. In case of EB supply failure this unit will start checking the BTS battery voltage and shelter temperature. If either of the parameters found to be outside the set limits, this unit will issue command for starting the genset. Once the battery voltage or shelter temperature becomes normal then the fuel optimiser commands the genset to stop.

Thermal imagers visualise and measure the thermal heat emitted by objects to identify the sources of excessive friction, defective switchgear, provide crucial information for many applications including measuring heat loss from buildings and identifying potential blockages in heating systems. All of this information is accessible without making contact with the subject. DUAL CIRCUIT CONTROL & MONITORING UNIT Thermon Group Holdings, Inc offers TraceNet TCM2 dual circuit control and monitoring unit, the latest addition to the TraceNet family of remotely-operated heating control and monitoring systems. Like the 18-circuit TraceNet TCM18 control and monitoring unit, the TCM2 unit makes it possible to remotely maintain heat trace circuits that play a critical role in industrial processing facilities.

To help operators better monitor and control temperatures of pipes, tanks and heated instruments, Thermon designed the TCM2 to reliably operate in harsh environmental conditions around-the-clock to ensure that pipe temperatures are monitored and efficiently controlled. This allows the TCM2 to be extremely versatile.

The TraceNet TCM2 can be operated locally, by remote control or networked via wireless or hard-wire to a computer or distributed control system (DCS) in the facility’s control room. The system continuously monitors every set point, including temperature, current and ground-leakage current. It then reports locally and transmits key data remotely to the control room. The operator can review each circuit for temperature, ground current, heater current, the frequency at which it is performing and alarm status.

As with every TraceNet controller, the TCM2 relies on resistance temperature detector (RTD) temperature sensors to monitor temperature on the designated pipe or equipment. The system then cycles the heat required to maintain the target temperature.

If required, the operator can also adjust every circuit set point on the unit or via remote locations.

FLUID BED DRYERS Fluid bed technology offers several advantages such as no product lump formation/caking, no particle overheating/cooling, a well defined product residence time uniform product quality, better energy economy due to lower specific heat requirements, etc. In fluid-bed the material is suspended in an upward moving hotair and the mass behaves like a boiling fluid after fluidisation.

This is the state of fluidization. The fluid-bed dryers are most suitable for drying granular, crystalline, coarse or similar material. It is also possible to dry very fine crystals or very coarse material. The air is passed from the bottom of the container which has got perforations of SS fine wire mesh. Hot air passes through the product container and therefore the turbulance in the product is obtained and hence the product moves up and down in the product container.

Due to this the heat transfer is very quick and the product is dried very fast without appreciable loss of heat. The fluid bed dryers are not suitable for drying liquids of pasty materials. The fluid bed dryer will be complete with 2,800 RPM, TEFC motor blower, control panel with timer, 2 temperature gauge, filter bag, SS-316 quality container with trolley and heater or steam radiator.

56) OVERLOAD PROTECTION FOR DRIVES mayr power transmission offers a new disengaging torque limiter on which all functional processes can be automated through the drive. It is easy to handle, permits long run-out times and re-engages again through slow backwards rotation. Housing also makes the clutch resistant to dust or spray water.

In case of rough operating and ambient conditions such as dust, dirt, spray water, heat or cold, the drive lines, particularly in heavy mechanical engineering, are frequently encapsulated and therefore hard to access. But these machines in particular require reliable overload protection. Therefore, mayr power transmission has now developed with the EAS-reverse a robust, disengaging torque limiter which can withstand both high loads and automatically re-engages.

On the EAS-reverse torque limiter, all functional processes can be automated via the drive alone. In case of overload, if the torque exceeds the value set on the clutch, a patented disengagement mechanism separates the input and output almost residual torque-free with high switch-off and repetitive accuracy. The kinetic energy from the rotating masses stored in the system can slow down freely. After responding, the clutch can withstand long drive run-out times. Through slow reverse rotation, the EAS-reverse torque limiter re-engages automatically without the use of pneumatics or hydraulics.The new EAS-reverse torque limiter transmits the torque with exceptionally low wear (<0.05°) and features hardened functional parts. It is easy to handle and represents adaptable, branch-optimised solutions with its numerous versions and additional characteristics. The EAS-reverse can also easily be integrated into a solid housing with standard IEC or NEMA dimensions. The new torque limiter already covers the first three construction sizes with a torque range from 80-2,500 Nm, and this range is now to be extended with a fourth construction size up to 5,000 Nm and a bore dia of up to 100 mm.

CUSTOMIZED ELECTRONIC PRESSURE CONTROLLERS Alicat Scientific has added two new families of electronic pressure controllers specifically for high volume OEM. The EPC family with single proportional valves and EPCD family with dual valves, provide customized pressure control in embedded systems. The small footprint instruments respond quickly to upstream fluctuations to provide fast, accurate control of pressure in an economical, easy-to-integrate package.

Alicat offers a choice of valves, valve orifices and process connections to fit customer specifications. EPC instruments are ideal for use in OEM gas chromatographs, fluidics dispensing for flow cytometry and anywhere responsive pressure control is needed.

EPC and EPCD instruments have a 100 ms control response to still upstream pressure fluctuations in real time. NISTtraceable accuracy is 0.25% full-scale. The EPC family’s single proportional valve provides stable control of pressure in flowing applications, such as maintaining flow of carrier gas through the sample injection point in gas chromatographs. The EPCD features a second exhaust valve to provide efficient control of pressure in closed volumes, such as controlling the head space above a fluid for dispensing.

OPaL is a joint venture company promoted by ONGC, Gail and GSPC, implementing a grass root integrated petrochemical complex located in Special Economic Zone (SEZ) under Petroleum, Chemical and Petrochemical Investment Region (PCPIR) at Dahej, Gujarat.

This is the single largest petrochemical plant in India and at full capacity, will yearly produce 14 lakh metric tonnes of polymers - viz. linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE), high density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropylene (PP) - and 5 lakh metric tonnes of chemicals such as benzene, butadiene, and pyrolysis gasoline. The product warehouse is one of the largest in India with an area of 128,250 square metres.

OPaL would use ONGC’s captive feed of C2+ streams (ie, ethane, propane and butane) from C2-C3 extraction plant, and naphtha from Hazira & Uran to produce polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP).

Set up with an investment of ` 30,000 crore, the plant is strategically located in the petrochemicals and chemical hub of the country with excellent connectivity, creating an integrated ecosystem.

The project will further result in the growth of new downstream plastic processing industries in the country, generating further investment of ` 40,000 crore and over 20,000 indirect employment opportunities, giving major thrust to government’s Make in India programme. The increased use of polymers will also reduce burden on traditional materials like wood, paper, metal and will help in conserving natural resources like water and energy and promote food safety & food conservation.

Chemplast Sanmar Enters Into JV with FranceBased Kem One for Chlorinated PVC Chennai, India: Chemplast Sanmar has announced that it has formed a joint venture with Kem One to set up a manufacturing facility for chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) in Puducherry.

With the JV, to be called Kem One Chemplast, will meet the increasing demand for CPVC in the country.

The new facility, for which sanctions are in the process of being acquired, will come up at Karaikal, Puducherry. The project, which is being set up at an estimated cost of Rs 325 crores, will have technology from Kem One and a capacity of 22,000 tonne per annum (TPA) of CPVC resins. It will also manufacture CPVC compounds.

CPVC is principally used as a raw material to produce pipes and fittings for supplying water which entails heat resistance, pressure resistance and high tolerance for water treatment.

In recent years, there is a switch from metal to CPVC in pipes used in buildings in India, and in parallel, overall construction demand has also been witnessed. CPVC can also be used for industrial applications which require a high level of chemical resistance and for sprinklers. The demand for CPVC is expanding significantly and will continue to grow rapidly in India. The manufacturing joint venture company will thus provide the domestic answer to the Indian customers’ needs that is currently being met through imports.

The formation of the manufacturing joint venture company mentioned above as Kem One Chemplast will be subject to approval from the competent authorities.

Kem One is the second largest producer of PVC in Europe. Mainly located in France, it has 1300 employees and an annual turnover of € 800 million. Its eight industrial sites manufacture a wide range of PVC resins, caustic soda and chlorine derivatives. By starting CPVC resins and compounds production in the 70’s in Europe Kem One has a strong expertise in CPVC industrial process. With this partnership with Chemplast Sanmar, Kem One is expanding its footprint in the rapidly growing Indian market.

BASF Expands Mobile Emissions Catalysts Capacity in India with New Facility Chennai, India: BASF Catalysts India Pvt Ltd has announced that it doubled the production capacity for mobile emissions catalysts in India with the inauguration of a new manufacturing site in Chennai. The site includes a new 47,000 sq m production plant, which replaces an existing BASF plant in Chennai and is the culmination of a three-year expansion project.

The manufacturing lines are housed in the new plant, producing a full range of catalyst solutions, including light duty, heavy duty and motorcycle emissions catalysts to meet growing market demand and customer technology needs. The site produces BASF Empro emissions control solutions including the three-way

catalyst (TWC), diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), catalysed soot filter (CSF) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst.

“Around the Asia Pacific region, and especially here in India, mobility is ever more important. At the same time, more and more vehicles are being manufactured locally in India. To meet the demands of this growth, according to BASF’s Asia Pacific strategy and in support of Make in India and other government initiatives, we are expanding our local production network in the region,” said Sanjeev Gandhi, member of the board of executive directors, BASF SE responsible for Asia Pacific. Cabinet Agrees to Sale of Indian Oil's 24 per cent stake in Lubrizol India New Delhi, India: Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has announced that it has given its sanction for the sale of Indian Oil Corporation’s 24 per cent stake in Lubrizol India Private Limited to the US-based Lubrizol Corporation.

“The CCEA, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gave its in-principle consent to permit Indian Oil Corporation Limited (Indian Oil) to sell its 24 per cent equity in one of its joint venture companies, Lubrizol India Private Limited (LIPL) to Lubrizol Corporation, USA (LC), the other joint venture partner,” said the government in a press release.

Indian Oil presently owns 50 per cent stake in Lubrizol India Pvt Ltd, which is engaged in production of lube additives. After off-loading 24 per cent, Lubrizol is anticipated to bring in latest technology to the country.

“The sale will facilitate IOC to have long term association with its joint venture partner and thus LIPL to have access to the cutting-edge global additive technologies developed by Lubrizol Corporation, USA.”

Dow Polyurethanes to Raise Manufacturing Capacity By 50 per cent in India

“With Government's current campaign on 'Make in India' which has a special focus on the chemical industry and aims to turn the country into a global manufacturing hub, a tremendous growth in the plastic processing sector is expected especially in downstream industries. The government should not hesitate to provide better infrastructure and favourable policies. With a step already being taken in that direction, plastics are bound to find tremendous use in the infrastructure space,” said the paper. The Government of India is taking every possible initiative to boost the infrastructure sector with investments of ` 25 lakh crore over the next 3 years in roads, railways and shipping infrastructure. Investments in water and sanitation management, irrigation, building & construction, power, transport and retail have been encouraged. Plastics play an important role in these sectors through various products like pipes, wires & cables, water proofing membranes, wood PVC composites and other sectors. Consequently, higher investments in these sectors will drive the demand for plastics.

The knowledge paper stated that plastics processing industry has grown at a CAGR of 10 per cent in volume terms from 8.3 MMTPA in FY10 to 13.4 MMTPA in FY15 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 10.5 per cent from FY15 to FY20 to reach 22 MMTPA. In value terms, the plastic processing industry has grown at a CAGR of 11 per cent from ` 35,000 crore in FY ’05 to ` 100,000 crore in FY15.

The Indian plastic industry is making significant contribution to the economic development and growth of various key sectors in the country which includes automotive, construction, electronics, healthcare, textiles, and FMCG. The developments in the plastic machinery sector are coupled with developments in the petrochemical sector, both of which support the plastic processing sector. This has facilitated plastic processors to build capacities for the service of both the domestic market and the markets overseas.

Today, the plastic processing sector comprises over 30,000 units involved in producing a variety of items, gaining notable importance in different spheres of activity with per capita consumption increasing. The plastic processing industry has the potential to contribute in bringing foreign investments and thus India’s vision of becoming a manufacturing hub.

Chemicals & Plastics Sector to accomplish 15 per cent growth in 3 years: Ananth Kumar New Delhi, India: The chemicals & petrochemicals and plastics industry has grown around 12 per cent this year, defying all claims of a slowdown in the economy post the demonetisation drive, according to Ananth Kumar, Minister for Chemicals & Fertilizers.

Speaking at an awards function for technology innovation in petrochemicals and downstream plastics processing industry, the Minister said, “In the next three years, this sector would achieve 15 per cent growth.

Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET) had organised the awards function in New Delhi. Ananth Kumar mentioned, “The institution is playing a pioneering role in skilling the youth of India, who in the times to come would be the torch bearers of the Skill India, Start-up India and Make in India missions of the government in this sector. The government has already increased the number of CIPETs from 23 to 39 in two and half years and is determined to take this number to 100 as per Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. Due to the efforts of CIPET, for the first time in elections, the containers for electronic voting machines (EVMs) were made of plastic instead of metals, which made them light, durable and easy to carry to far flung areas.” Talking about the challenge of plastic waste management, Kumar said, “Plastic is both an opportunity as well as a challenge, which needs a special strategy and a behavioural change in the common man to sustainably use it for the advantage of the masses. Biodegradable plastic is the answer to this challenge.”

He noted that the award scheme incentivises meritorious innovations and inventions in the field of polymeric materials, products, processes and other areas of national and social importance.

Henkel Submits Binding Offer to Acquire Darex Packaging Technologies for $ 1,050 Million Mumbai, India: Henkel has announced that it has submitted a binding offer for the Darex Packaging Technologies business. Darex is based in Cambridge, MA, USA and supplies high-performance sealants and coatings for the metal packaging industry around the world. It serves various global customers producing beverage, food or aerosol cans, ensuring with its solutions the highest quality standards for many best-known brands. In fiscal 2016, Darex Packaging Technologies generated sales of around $ 300 million.

L&T Hydrocarbon Wins ` 1100 Crore Order for Indian Oil's Cracking Unit Mumbai, India: L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering (LTHE) has announced that it has bagged an onshore EPC contract from Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) worth around ` 1100 crores for setting up a 0.740 MMTPA fluidised cracking unit (FCC) including LPG treatment facility at its Bongaigaon Refinery, Assam. At present, IOCL's Bongaigaon refinery has a capacity of 2.35 million metric tonne per annum (MMTPA).

Last year, Indian Oil Corporation had declared its plan to set up Indmax FCC unit (including LPG treatment) of 0.740 MMTPA with an investment of ` 2582 at its Bongaigaon refinery. The new unit is part of IOCL’s Hydrocarbon Vision 2030 for NorthEast which targets at expanding oil & gas production by 2030.

Indmax technology, developed by IOCL to produce high yield of light olefins and high octane gasoline from various petroleum fractions, is more competitive and exceedingly suitable for heavy feed contaminated with metals. This process has also been enhanced to enrich propylene yield from paraffinic VGO (vacuum gas oil) feedstock.

While Indmax of 0.1 MMTPA capacity was set-up at Guwahati refinery as the pilot project, IOCL commissioned 4.27-MMTPA Indmax unit at Paradip refinery in December 2015.

As per the contract, LTHE’s scope of work covers extended basic engineering, detailed engineering, procurement, supply, transportation, storage, fabrication, inspection, construction, installation, testing, mechanical completion, pre-commissioning and commissioning of the unit.

Mumbai, India and Ludwigshafen, Germany: BASF Group has announced that it has inaugurated its new Innovation Campus Asia Pacific, located in Mumbai, India. The project will involve a total expected investment of up to € 50 million from BASF Group, and marks the Group’s largest research and development (R&D) investment in South Asia. All global research operations at BASF Innovation Campus Asia Pacific (Mumbai) will be housed under BASF Chemicals India Private Limited, a 100 per cent subsidiary of BASF SE. The new innovation campus will expand the company’s existing R&D activities in India to include global and regional research on a wide range of specialty chemicals.

BASF Group Inaugurates New Innovation Campus Asia-Pacific in Mumbai

India Private Limited, BASF Group has invested actively in India to realize these opportunities, with approximately €300 million investment over the past four years in manufacturing and R&D. The approximately 20,000 square-meter campus is a collaborative space housing scientific and technical laboratories, modern offices, a full-scale auditorium, cafeteria and employee amenities. The building features a secondary façade to minimize overheating from direct sunlight, energy efficient LED lights, rainwater harvesting, a reflective roof with photovoltaic panels and a windmill to generate renewable energy. Over 50 percent of the lighting in the building will be generated from renewable sources, supported by many innovative solutions from BASF. Initial evaluations suggest synergies between the companies’ Birla Carbon® and BioPlus® nanocellulose products to significantly lower the rolling resistance of tires.

Research indicates that up to 20% of a vehicle’s fuel efficiency is impacted by the rolling resistance of tires. Increased commercialization of low rolling resistance tread material is a key technology development focus area identified in Birla Carbon’s 2016 Sustainability Report.

Over 70% of the world’s carbon black is consumed by the tire industry, with carbon black constituting 25% of the tire weight. Within the tire industry, there are ever-increasing demands to improve rolling resistance, traction and fuel economy while maintaining tire safety and affordability.

H o n ey w e l l U O P S c i e n t i s t s R e c o g n i z e d B y American Institute of Chemical Engineers For Development Of Methanol-To-Olefins Technology New Delhi, India: Honeywell (UOP) has announced that the American Institute of Chemical Engineers’ (AIChE) Fuels and Petrochemical Division has recognized four of its scientists with the 2016 Industrial Research & Development Award for the development and commercialization of the UOP Advanced Methanol-to-Olefins process.The award recognizes the scientists’ work on the technology that converts methanol from sources such as coal and natural gas into the olefins that are the primary components in the manufacture of plastic resins, films and fibers. This is especially critical in countries that lack domestic sources of crude oil but are rich in coal or natural gas.

“Our Advanced MTO technology has played a dramatic role in petrochemicals markets in only a few short years, and it shows how innovation and the application of chemistry and chemical engineering principles can profoundly benefit society,” said Jim Rekoske, VP and chief technology officer at Honeywell UOP. While many engineers and scientists contributed the development of the Advanced MTO process, the AIChE recognized John Chen (who led the research team) John Senetar (who led modeling and process design), Paul Barger (who established the catalyst and process criteria), and Dan Kauff (who led the integration of MTO and OCP processes) as leaders in the effort.

The awardees set a new benchmark for smooth, rapid, and resilient technology commercialization, overcoming many technical challenges. The award recipients will be recognized at an awards banquet at the AIChE Spring Meeting in San Antonio on March 27.

Honeywell UOP and Atofina (now part of Total) developed the Olefin Cracking Process (OCP), which converts heavier olefin byproducts from the MTO process into even more light olefins.

OCP was integrated with MTO to create the Advanced MTO process, which is covered by more than 50 patents, and has been licensed to nine customers.

New Contracts/Expansions/Revamps The following list is a brief insight into the latest new projects by various companies in India. CHEMICALS M Chemicals proposes an expansion from 10-TPM to 35-TPM of its synthetic organic chemicals manufacturing unit in GIDC Sachin, district: Surat, Gujarat. The estimated cost of the expansion is `12-million. The current status of the project could not be ascertained.

According to MoEF sources, EIA report has been prepared by Aqua-Air Environmental Engineers. The existing plant manufactures 10-TPM 6-Nitro, 1-Diazo, 2-Napthol, 4-Sulphonic Acid. The expansion entails addition of new products namely, 25-TPM G-Salt, R-Salt, Amido G-Acid, Aniline 2,4 DSA, Aniline 2,5 DSA, Para Nitro Chloro Benzoyl Sulphonic Acid, Sulfo Tobias Acid, Para Cresidine Ortho Sulphonic Acid, Schaffer’s Acid, Broenner’s Acid. Total plot area is approximately 1,650-sq m, out of which, 300-sq m has been used for green belt development. 5-KLD effluent will be treated in-house ETP and 10KLD effluent will be sent to common MEE of MEPL for evaporation.

Mamta Texdyes (Samba) proposes a synthetic organic chemicals manufacturing unit in GIDC Sarigam, district: Valsad, Gujarat.

The project is spread over 2,250-sq m. The estimated cost of the project is `32-million. The current status of the project could not be ascertained. According to SEIAA sources, Eco Chem Sales Services is the environmental consultant. The proposed products are 200TPM sulphur black grains, 300-TPM sulphur black liquid and the byproducts are 250.1-TPM sodium thio sulphate crystal and 47.12-TPM sodium chloride salt. 700-sq m area has been proposed for green belt development. Industrial waste water will be treated in primary and tertiary treatment plant and treated waste water will be discharged into CETP Sarigam.

Resipol Adhesives proposes an expansion of synthetic organic chemicals manufacturing unit in village: Rajpur, district: Mehsana, Gujarat. The estimated cost of the expansion is ` 40-million. The current status of the project could not be ascertained. According to SEAC sources, the manufacturing of existing products, 2.0-TPM benzyl alcohol, 1.1-TPM benzyl benzoate, 3.0-TPM benzoic acetate, 1.4-TPM sodium benzoate, 1.8-TPM sodium acetate will be discontinued and 300-TPM polyester resins (different grades) and alkyd resins (different grades), 90-TPM melamine formaldehyde resin and 85-TPM urea formaldehyde resin will be manufactured as new products. The plot area is approximately 6,033.00-sq m. Unit has proposed 2,000-sq m area for green belt development. Industrial effluent of 0.42-KLD after primary treatment will be evaporated in kettle type evaporator. Two DG sets each of 65-KVA will be provided. It was decided to recommend the project to SEIAA, Gujarat for grant of environmental clearance.

Royal Wood proposes a 90-TPM phenol formaldehyde resin, urea formaldehyde resin, melamine urea formaldehyde resin and melamine formaldehyde resin manufacturing unit in village: Modvadar,

district: Kutch, Gujarat. The current status of the project could not be ascertained. According to MoEF sources, existing products are 3-million sq m per month plywood, flush door, block board and veneer.

The manufactured resin will be used for in-house consumption at the wood products plant. The project will come up on 11,603.62-sq m of existing land. The green belt area is 600-sq m. A base platform will be constructed for the resin plant; remaining will be MS structure.

Eternis Fine Chemicals proposes an expansion of synthetic organic chemicals manufacturing unit from 42,200-TPA to 60,000-TPA in MIDC Kurkumbh, district: Pune, Maharashtra. The current status of the project could not be ascertained. According to MoEF sources, total land area is 100,400-sq m and built-up area is 42,710-sq m. 33 per cent will be developed as green belt area. The project will entail: 1) capacity expansion of existing products and by-products; 2) addition of similar products and by-products; 3) introduction of new eco-friendly biomass boiler as replacement to furnace oil. Project involves manufacturing of fragrance from organic raw materials by chemical process like hydrogenation, esterification, Diels-Alder reaction, cyclisation, dehydrogenation, aldol condensation, etc, followed by distillation to match precise quality standards. By-products capacity will be augmented from 11,400-TPA to 20,000-TPA. The estimated cost of the project is ` 1,050-million. The power requirement 12,000-KVA will be available through Government Electricity Board.

Panoli Intermediates (India) proposes an expansion of its specialty chemicals manufacturing unit and a new 10-MW coal-based captive power project in Unit-III, GIDC Nandesari, district: Vadodara, Gujarat.

The estimated cost of the project is `100-million. The current status of the project could not be ascertained. According to MoEF sources, the total plot area is 15,480-sq m. The capacity of isomers and DNCB such as 2:4 DCNB, 2:6 DCNB, 2:5 DCNB is to be augmented from 200-TPM to 2,200-TPM, ortho anisidine/para anisidine from 100-TPM to 1,100-TPM, ortho nitro aniline/para nitro aniline from 300-TPM to 2,300-TPM, isomers of DCA from 80-TPM to 1,080-TPM, isomers and DCNB such as 2:3 DCNB, 2:5 DCNB. isomers of DCNB such as 2:3 DCNB, 2:5 DCNB, 3:4 DCNB from 200-TPM to 2,200-TPM, H-acid from 50-TPM to 500-TPM and addition of a new product namely, 1,500-TPM derivatives of nitro phenol and a new 10-MW coal-based captive power project. 10-MW power requirement is to be met from MGVCL and 10-MW from the captive power project. The effluent will be treated in proposed effluent treatment plant.

Saras Plywood Products is planning a 60-TPM urea formaldehyde resin manufacturing plant in New GIDC Gundlav, district: Valsad, Gujarat. The existing land area is 1.5 acres. The estimated cost of the project is ` 7.5-million. Kalyan Industries is the equipment supplier.

The project is waiting for environmental clearance. Civil work will commence in 3 months. The project is planned for completion in this year. According to SEIAA sources, the company has proposed primary

FMC India is planning an expansion of its chemical manufacturing unit at IDA Patancheru, district: Medak, Telangana. The estimated cost of the project is ` 17.5-million. As of September the project was waiting for the environmental clearance. According to MoEF sources, the plot area is 4.027 acres. The company proposes to manufacture 50-TPM of products as part of the expansion. Green belt on 33 per cent of the land area will be developed and maintained. Globex Laboratories (R&D) proposes a pigments manufacturing unit at village: Dabhasa, district: Vadodara, Gujarat. According to MoEF sources, the project will come up in the existing land on 9,312-sq m.

Kadam Environmental Consultants, Vadodara is the environmental consultant. The project will entail manufacture of 40-TPM red pigments, 40-TPM yellow pigments and 450-TPM dilute phosphoric acid. Environment clearance has been obtained for the products – red pigments and yellow pigments. Construction work has begun, as EC and NOC have been received. Effluents generated will be treated in effluent treatment plant having MEE. The company has applied for Amendment in Environmental Clearance dated 26th September 2012 for change in fuel from LDO to agro waste briquettes and addition of one raw material, ie, phosphoric acid and generation of dilute phosphoric acid (25 per cent basis) as by-product.

Bohra Industries is implementing an expansion of its chemical and fertilizer manufacturing unit at Umarda, district: Udaipur, Rajasthan on 14,500-sq m of existing land. The project will entail expansion of single super phosphate capacity from 400-TPD to 600-TPD, granulated super phosphate from 200-TPD to 300-TPD and addition of new products namely 150-TPD triple super phosphate, 550-TPD synthetic gypsum, 30-TPD Di-calcium phosphate, 160-TPD phosphoric acid, 0.3-TPD potassium fluoride, 150-TPD H 2SO4 and 0.3-TPD Sodium Tri Polyphosphate (STPP). Machinery has been ordered from China. Civil work is in progress. The project is scheduled for completion in 2018.

Ami Lifesciences proposes expansion of its synthetic organic chemicals manufacturing unit (viz, pharmaceutical bulk drugs and drug intermediates) from 65.70-TPM to 131.60-TPM in Padra, district: Vadodara, Gujarat. The estimated cost of the project is ` 87.046-million. Environmental Consultant to this project is Envisafe Environment Consultants. According to MoEF sources, total plot area is 23,760-sq m (existing 10,270-sq m and 13,490-sq m for expansion). The unit currently manufactures 2-TPM 1-Acetyl Naphthalene, 1-TPM 2-Acetyl Naphthalene, 6-TPM Itopide HCl, 1.20-TPM Loxapine Succinate, 0.30-TPM Amoxapine, 6-TPM Venlafaxine, 6-TPM Progunil HCl, 6-TPM CB-2-L-Valine, 0.60-TPM Nateglinide, 0.60-TPM Quetiapine, 24-TPM Carbomazepin and 12-TPM Oxacarbomazepin. The expansion will involve addition of new products. Water requirement from ground water source will be

increased from 34.53-cu m/day to 181-cu m/day after expansion.

Effluent generation will be increased from 9.35-cu m/day to 79.5-cu m/day after expansion. Highly concentrated effluent will be sent to captive incinerator for incineration. Remaining effluent (70-cu m/ day) will be treated in the ETP comprising primary, secondary and tertiary treatment. Treated effluent will be sent to CETP for further treatment. ETP sludge, inorganic residue and incineration ash will be sent to TSDF. Spent carbon, organic residue will be sent to incinerator.

RSPL RSPL is planning a 1,500-TPD soda ash plant and 40-MW captive power project in village: Kuranga, district: Jamnagar, Gujarat. Land acquisition is in progress. 85 per cent of land has been acquired. The project is waiting for environmental clearance. The entire project is planned for completion in 5 years from zero date. MINING Metabluu Power, a sister concern of Minera Udyog India, is planning a 75,000-TPA iron ore mining project in village: Devikonda, district: Karimnagar, Telangana. The project is awaiting Government approval.

Aryan Ispat & Power is planning an expansion of its coal washery in village: Bamoloi, district: Sambalpur, Odisha. The project will come up in the existing 204.65-acre integrated steel plant premises.

The capacity of the project is to be augmented from 0.70-MTPA to 5.70-MTPA. The cost of the project is ` 600.7-million. The project is awaiting environmental clearance and planned for completion in 1-year from zero date. According to MoEF sources, the expansion is based on heavy media cyclone (wet process) technology. The washery will produce washed coal of an average ash around 34% (GCV 4,350Kcal/kg), middling (ash content about 58%) of GCV around 2,350-Kcal per kg useable as fuel in FBC boilers. The proposed expansion will be the state-of-the-art with close circuit water system, classifying cyclone, high frequency screens, thickener and multi-roll belt press filters. Power requirement of 5-MVA will be sourced from its own power plant connected with the Grid Corporation of Odisha.

DSP Associates is planning a 15,17,600-TPA sand (minor mineral) mining project in the mines of Tikola-1 Sand Unit at village: Tikola, district: Gurgaon, Haryana. Mining lease area is 42.50-hectare. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 55-million. The project is waiting for environmental clearance. Mining work is expected to commence soon. According to MoEF sources, out of the total area, 31.50-hectare area falls in the river bed and 11-hectare area falls in agricultural land (outside river bed). Method of mining will be opencast semimechanized without drilling and blasting. The mine will be excavated out in layers up to a depth of 3-m in riverbed and 9-m in agricultural field. Letter of Intent (LoI) for mining contract has been granted for a period of 9 years.
