Sarah Stitt is a dedicated advocate for mental health awareness and communitywell-being, serving as Oklahoma’s First Lady alongside Governor Kevin Stitt. With 27years of marriage and the experience of raising six children, Sarah’s commitmentto family values profoundly influences her leadership and initiatives.
Priorto her role as First Lady, Sarah spenttwo decades at Gateway Mortgage, where she fostered a nurturing and growth-oriented work environment. Her leadership empowered employees, contributing to their personal and professional development.
As First Lady, Sarah has been atthe forefront of mental health advocacy in Oklahoma. In 2021, she founded Hope Rising Oklahoma in collaboration with Dr. Chan Hellman from the University of Oklahoma’s Hope Research Center. This initiative promotes the science of hope, training state agencies and local organizations to implementtransformative mental health principles. Recognizing the impact ofAdverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on mental health, Sarah aims to connect resources with nonprofits to foster supportive relationships and create pathways to success for individuals affected byACEs.
In addition to herworkwith Hope Rising Oklahoma, Sarah chairs the campaign forthe Pediatric Behavioral Health Center at Oklahoma Children’s Hospital. This center addresses the critical mental health needs of children across the state, reinforcing her commitmentto the well-being of Oklahoma's youth.
Sarah also plays a significant role as a SeniorAdvisorforthe CCJ Women’s Justice Commission, a national initiative dedicated to addressing the unique challenges faced by women in the justice system. Through thorough research and policy advocacy, the commission strives to implement evidence-based reforms that positively impact justice-involved women.
With a strong focus on service and a vision for a hope-centered Oklahoma, Sarah Stitt is dedicated to driving positive change and enhancing the quality of life forfamilies and communities throughoutthe state. Her initiatives continue to inspire, aiming for a future where hope and support are accessible to all Oklahomans.
Kim Henry spentten years in the classroom teaching Oklahoma History, Economics, Government, and APAmerican History. In 1999-2000 she was awarded the Close-Up Foundation’s Linda Myers Chozen Award forTeaching Excellence in Civic Education. Onlyfive other educators across the nation received the honor thatyear. In 2002 her husband, Brad, was elected Governor ofthe State of Oklahoma and Kim spentthe next 8 years as first lady working to make Oklahoma number one in the nation in Early Childhood Education.
Kim’s civic awards include the Award of Distinction from the OU College of Education, the Bill Lowry Library Champion Award, the Jasmine Award for her dedication to Oklahoma’s children, the National Guard Youth Champion Award, and she was a three-time honoree forthe Journal Record’s 50 Most Distinguished Women.
Kim has also received the Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy’s Champion of Children’s Award and their Public ServantAward, the HonoraryYoung Mother ofthe YearAward, the Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser ofthe Year, Outstanding Woman Leader ofthe Year and received the Oklahoma Teachers ofthe YearVision Award for herwork in education reform, and was a Festival of Hope honoree for outstanding community leadership and improving the quality of life in Oklahoma. Kim was inducted into the Oklahoma Women’s Hall of Fame in 2009. Kim has also received the NAACPCivil Rights Award, the John FKennedy Community Service Award and Neighborhood Service Organization’s Good Samaritan Award.
Kim Henry is currently serving as the Executive Director of Sarkeys Foundation, a private, charitable foundation dedicated to providing supportthrough gifts and grants to Oklahoma’s non-profit organizations. She is married to former Governor Brad Henry. They have three daughters and a son-in-law, Leah and Baylee Henry, and Laynie and Ben Gottsch and three adorable granddaughters, Magnolia, Violet and Iris.
CathyKeating 1995-2003
Cathy Keating is a fourth generation Oklahoman whose great grandparents came to Oklahoma on the 1894 Land Run. Like those family members who came before her, she has focused much of her energy in her life on community service, most prominentlywhile she was First Lady of Oklahoma, 1995 – 2003.
Afterthe Oklahoma City Bombing she organized and implemented the international Prayer Service and subsequently spent much of her energy helping those who were affected bythe bombing heal.
Keating authored a book: In Their Name, The Oklahoma City Bombing, which was on the NewYorkTimes best seller list, with all the proceeds going to Project Recovery.
She has also published Our Governors’ Mansions ( a coffee table book on each ofAmerica’s Governors’ Mansions) and Ooh La La: Cuisine Presented in a Stately Mannerwith all proceeds directed to Friends ofthe Oklahoma Governor’s Mansion. Most recently, she and her husband co authored a children’s book on the Oklahoma City Bombing, Love Won: The Oklahoma Standard, with all proceeds directed to the OKC National Memorial.
Keating currently serves on the boards ofthe National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, Friends ofthe Oklahoma Governor’s Mansion and is on the National Advisory Board ofthe Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Palomar FamilyJustice Center. She has co chaired the OKC Salvation Army Capital Campaign as well as the Washington, D.C. American Red Cross Capital Campaign. As a member ofthe Cowboy board of directors, she co founded the Annie Oakley Society, a women’s leadership organization atthe museum. With a focus on howwomen’s leadership in our communities has made a difference, she has chaired the annual Annie Oakley Society luncheon as well as theirfundraising efforts raising over $16 million for an outside educational experience atthe museum, Liichokoshkomo’, a Chickasaw phrase meaning “Let’s Play.” She is also a former member ofthe Board of Directors of Express Employment Professionals and in that capacity chaired their International Philanthropyfor 17years.
Keating, along with her husband Frank, is the recipient of such awards as the Salvation Army’s “William Booth” Award, Tom Brokaw’s “People ofthe Week” honor, the David and Sybil Yurman Foundation’s “Thoroughbred” Award and was named an “Outstanding Southerner” in Southern Living. She is also in the Oklahoma Hall of Fame, the Oklahoma Women’s Hall of Fame and has been inducted into the Oklahoma Commerce and Industry Hall of Honor. Cathy and her husband Frank have three married children and eleven fabulous grandchildren.
