PeaceHealth Community Health board
Washington Board of Nursing- Pro Tem member. Serve on the nursing education and discipline committees.
I have an interest in health issues, have extensive experience in leadership and health, enjoying serving the community, and would like to be involved in the health of Cowlitz County.
Professionally I was a nurse practitioner in a locally owned medical clinic for almost 20 years. In this role, I cared for many residents of Cowlitz County and saw their health needs firsthand. As nursing faculty at Lower Columbia College I was actively involved in the education of new nurses in our community. I enjoyed leadership and progressed to Nursing Program Director to Executive Dean of Instruction, retiring in 2022 after 35 years in education. In my nursing career, I also served as a charge nurse in long term care, and home heath/hospice nurse. Home health gave me the unique experience of caring for people in their homes - and saw the wide variety of living situations in our county. I have also served as medical director for World Wide Heart to Heart ministries for three medical mission trips to Honduras, leading and coordinating teams of approximately 20 volunteers. This combination of life experiences provides me with a broad view of health and experience in decision- making as well as leadership.

Describe your demonstrated commitment to public health:
I am invested in the community, have raised my family here, and have served my professional life in health care in Cowlitz County. I was raised in Montana, have traveled to developing counties and tended to health needs there, and have a knowledge of and appreciation for people of all backgrounds and experiences.
As a resident of the county and a background in health, my professional career demonstrates my commitment.

Volunteer at Cowlitz Free Medical Clinic
Feel I can provide a balanced view of public health issues affecting the county with a medical background as someone who has lived here long enough to have a good understanding of the health issues facing county residents.
I served as a Naval Medical Officer for 8 years and then came to Longview as a Family Physician. I practiced the full scope of Family Medicine including obstetrics and hospice care for 9 years and then focused on hospital medicine for 14 years before retiring in 2022. I have worked predominantly in Longview but also in Vancouver and Portland. I held several leadership positions on the St John Medical Staff. I still fill in at St John periodically as a locums physician but do not serve on any committees. I have volunteered at the Cowlitz Free Medical Clinic serving uninsured Cowlitz County residents since its inception. I also have a special interest in treating addictions.
I grew up and went to school in Texas and was fortunate enough to be able to travel with my family to broaden my perspective on our country and the world. I also traveled the Western Pacific extensively while in the Navy which really showed me how fortunate we are to have access to modern medical care and how we take our public health system for granted.
I have lived in west Longview for the last 10 years and in Columbia Heights for 15 years prior to this. I have friends and family throughout Cowlitz County in both rural and more developed areas. I have also seen how poverty and lack of consistent medical care affects the health of Cowlitz County Residents

Describe your demonstrated commitment to public health:
I believe I will provide a science based background with extensive real world medical experience in treating and counseling patients that is needed on the Board of Health. I also believe I can help interpret medical studies and shed light on some of the popular pseudo-science that is being disseminated. I feel like there are several opportunities to improve the health of Cowlitz County residents.
Continue to volunteer at Cowlitz Free Medical Clinic. Continue to advocate for a strong public health system in order to prevent disease and respond with evidence based tools when there is disease outbreak. Stay abreast on recommendations for disease prevention and emerging diseases through continuing medical education.

As a retired physician, I care deeply about the health of our citizens and our resources.
Retired physician. Also a published author. Currently volunteering as a physician at the Free Clinic
I grew up on a small farm on Cloverdale Rd (4 miles south of Kalama) and still consider myself a "country girl" although I live in the city now. I enjoy many outdoor activities, including golf, hiking, boating, sailing within and outside our community. I have lived in Seattle, Salt Lake City, and Dallas, TX and choose to live in this smaller community because of the closerknit community
I don't think so. Serving on the St John Foundation board has to do with raising funds for our hospital, not health policy

Describe your demonstrated commitment to public health:
I was a registered pharmacist before I entered medical school. I was one of 4 women and 96 men in my class, and I was a Lutheran in a class of 80% Latter Day Saints (Mormons). Practicing as a woman physician in the 80s was more challenging than it is now, and I was tested by fire. I know how to listen and know about medicine.
I do not.
I do not.
I currently volunteer as a physician at the Free Clinic (Community Health Partners) which I helped get started when I was Chief Medical Officer at St John Medical Center. Taking care of people is part of my DNA

I returned and attended University of North Dakota School of medicine. I had clinical experiences in rural, veteran’s, and the Canadian health systems.
