Roland “Bob” Wolle, 79, of Brighton, retired from the U. S. Navy and retired teacher with the Tipton County School System, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 7. Funeral services were held on Friday, Feb. 12 at the Covington Funeral Home chapel. He is survived by one daughter, Linda (Larry) Damner of Bothell, Wash.; two sons, Robert (Michelle) Wolle of Port Orchard, Wash. and David (Marilyn) Wolle of Brighton; three brothers, Lawrence (Marilynn) Wolle of McFarland, Wisc., Loren Wolle of Minneapolis, Minn. and Richard Wolle of Mapleton, Minn. and nine grandchildren. Mary Kathryn Cromwell Dec. 4, 1928 - Feb. 11, 2010 Mary Kathryn Cromwell, 81, a homemaker from Covington, died at her residence. Born in Covington, she was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church where she played the organ and piano. Services were Feb. 13 at Maley-Yarbrough Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Craig Batson officiating. Interment was in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. She is survived by her spouse, Lawrence Cromwell; sons, Jerry (Patricia) Cromwell and Danny (Pam) Cromwell all of Covington; a brother, Ulys Billings of Covington; sisters, Mabel Walk and Lois Glenn both of Covington, Hazel Curtis of Madison and Eloise Hadley of Rosemark; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Ruth Ann White McDow March 16, 1929 - Feb. 13, 2010 Ruth Ann White McDow, 80, of Covington, a homemaker and musician, died at Covington Manor Nursing Home. Born in Mt. Juliet, she was a member of First United Methodist Church where she played the organ for 15 years. Services were Feb. 15 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Carpenter and Bill Face officiating. Interment was in Covington Memorial Gardens. Maley-Yarbrough Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. She is survived by her spouse, E. R. “Pete” McDow; a daughter, Shirley (Pat) McDow Daniel of Tullahoma; sons, Ed Pete (Anne) McDow Jr. of Dallas, Texas, and Tommy (Denise) McDow of Covington; a brother, Thomas White Jr. of Denton, Texas; grandchildren, Andrew, Deborah, Hannah, Beth, Joel, Ashley, Kimberly, Lillie and Tom McDow, Cassandra and Jonathan Daniel; great-grandchildren, Andy, Luke and Rachel McDow. Lois Chapman Glass
Arvis Henry Fletcher, 80, a farmer, of Giltedge, passed away Feb. 11 after a brave fight against cancer at Baptist East Hospital surrounded by his loving wife, sister and many other family members. He was born Sept. 26, 1929 in Gilt Edge to Ephriam and Bertha Overall Fletcher. He was raised in this small community and worked on the family farm and in the family grocery business and graduated from Munford High School in 1947. Inducted into the United States Army in 1951, Sergeant First Class Fletcher served in Korea during the war and was awarded a Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars. He was transferred to Japan and was awarded an Army Occupation Medal. He was discharged from military service in 1953. After returning home Arvis married Ada F. Bowers from the neighboring community of Randolph. Arvis and Ada continued the family farming business and began one of the most respected Registered Polled Hereford cattle farms in the state of Tennessee. He was a leader in the Tennessee Polled Hereford Association, serving as president and as a board member. He has also served as president and as a board member of the West Tennessee Polled Hereford Association. In addition to being a respected leader in the Polled Hereford Associations, Arvis was a mentor to many young FFA and 4-H members, providing show cattle and educating these young people about exhibiting, caring and breeding their cattle. He was also honored to be a Director of the Mid-South Fair serving as an advisor for the cattle exhibitions. He was a director for the Tipton County Farm Bureau and was a member of the Tipton County Cattlemen’s Association and the American Hereford Association. He has attended Randolph United Methodist Church for most of his life, singing in the choir and taking part in many church activities. As a civic leader he was elected to the Tipton County School Board in 1966 and served on this board until 1974. Arvis was elected to the Tipton County Legislative Commission in 1982 and was re-elected in 1986 and as a commissioner served on many committees during his years of service. He retired from the commission in 1990. He was also a director of Tipton County Bank for many years and he was on the Advisory Board of BancorpSouth until his retirement. Most recently he has served on the First Utility District Board of Directors, serving a large area west of Covington. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ada, his sister, Wanda Fletcher Coats, and brother-in-law, Howard Coats of Burlison. He is also survived by 14 beloved nieces and nephews and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by a younger sister, Zona Ann Fletcher, a niece, Teresa Glass and a nephew Michael Steven Glass. Services were held Feb. 14 at Munford Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in Helen Crigger Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Randolph United Methodist Church, the American Cancer Society or the charity of the donor’s choice. The Leader (Covington, Tenn.) May 5, 1927 - Feb. 15, 2010 Lois Chapman Glass, 82, a homemaker, of Springville, formerly of Dyersburg, died at Dyersburg Manor Nursing Center. Born in Covington, she was a member of Dyersburg First Baptist Church. Graveside services were Feb. 17 at Antioch Cemetery in Springville with Rev. James Barber officiating. Dyersburg Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. She is survived by a son, J. B. Glass of Dyersburg; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her spouse, John T. Glass; a daughter, Lynette Keel; three brothers, Brad Chapman, Ernest Chapman and Marshall Chapman and her parents, Sam and Lessie Chapman. Clarence James Kurrus “Chuck” Sr. Feb. 8, 1944 - Feb. 12, 2010 Clarence James Kurrus “Chuck” Sr., 66, of Burlison, passed away on Feb. 12. Born in Memphis, he served in the Navy Reserve. A memorial service will be held on Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. at Symrna Baptist Church in Burlison. He is survived by his wife, Betty Kurrus; a daughter, Amber Franks of Savannah; sons, Clarence James Kurrus Jr. “Jake” of Burlison and Andrew E. In appreciation The family of Neal Clayton would like to say thank you to everyone of you for all the prayers, food, flowers, cards and acts of kindness you all showed us during the loss of our loved one.
