W VALEDICTORIAN CHASE GUYTON

Dedicated to enjoying life William Chase Guyton was born in Hawaii and spent a portion of his youth in San Diego, where his father was stationed before retiring from the Navy.

With his parents, Ronald and Hayli Guyton, he moved to Tipton County in the third grade and has called Brighton home ever since.

His 4.0 GPA and impressive ACT score of 34 earned him the presidential scholarship, an engineering scholarship and a valedictorian scholarship to the University of Memphis, where he plans to study biomedical engineering with a possible minor in mathematics.

The Brighton High School valedictorian laughs as he recalls one of his fondest memories of high school.

“It was freshman Algebra II and the teacher had one of those flex bars that we could play with to get our minds off stuff if we needed to. A fellow student was playing with it, and put it on too tight, bending it so it was parallel with their chin and it popped, uppercutting them in the chin. Thankfully, they were alright, but it was still pretty funny.”

The 18-year-old is dedicated to contributing to the betterment of our world.

“I don't have any major goals, I just want to help people however I can.”

He advises future students to simply go to class and pay attention.

“That is half of the battle and if you

can be productive during class time, it makes it so much easier on you after school hours.”

He parts with advise for people in general, with words wise beyond his years: “While school work and jobs are important, you should always try to have a hobby to put your passion and dedication into. People always emphasize school, grades, jobs, etc., but if that's all you're doing, and you're not enjoying life then what's the point? You have to make sure to have something you enjoy and can put dedication into and have passion for, even if that's not what you’re doing for a living, you have to make sure to have that.”

Brighton valedictorian Chase Guyton plans to study biomedical engineering at the University of Memphis.

ways to make the immune system work better rather than just using medications to fight off diseases and viruses.

What do you want to accomplish in life? I just want to help as many people as I can in any way that I can. I want to reach so many people.

What was your favorite thing about high school? Crew for change and S.A.D.D. (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Who was your favorite/most influential teacher? I have several: Kim Collier, Patrick Flakes, Philip Ruse, Ted Maclin, Dawn Carmack and Patrick Smith What will you miss the most about high school? S.A.D.D. and the teachers Did you find your academic career challenging? Not really, but there were some classes that were a little more difficult and that I actually had to study for.

Do you have words of advice for fellow graduates? Go where you want and do what you want before you have to buckle down and do what you have to do, like pay bills and student loans.

VALEDICTORIAN CAMILLE STARCK

Starck to attend Harding Camille Starck aspires to make a career in pharmaceuticals, dedicating her time to hospitals and research and development.

“I would like to be part of the team creating the pharmaceuticals,” she said.

The Covington High School valedictorian is the 18-year-old daughter of Dr. Thomas Starck and Martine Starck.

She has a younger sister who plays in the band at Munford Middle School.

Both girls were adopted from China as babies.

Camille credits her parents for pushing her to be the best that she can be.

Her 4.0 GPA and ACT score of 33 earned her the presidential scholarship and the Hope Reimbursement, in addition to assistance from Covington Church of Christ, where she is a member. She will begin her pursuit of a bachelors degree at Harding University in Arkansas this fall.

She looks back on her high school career, fondly recalling a day in Spanish class during her sophomore year.

“We were pretending to cook with a Dora the Explorer kitchen set and we could only speak in Spanish, which was really difficult, but it was so funny watching these high school boys get up there with Dora utensils and try to cook. I laughed so hard I cried.”

She also speaks of the choir and the

times spent with her two best friends, another part of high school she will truly miss.

For future students she advises to work hard and try not to stress. “Things will work out.”

Camille plans to major in pre-pharmacy with a minor in mathematics, “just for fun.”

“I really just want to be able to look back on my life when I get to a certain age and be content with it.”

in life? Spread the gospel and show others through my life how Jesus loves his people.

What was your favorite thing about high school? Being on the soccer field; the team spirit and the pride that you have for your school and the sense of belonging that comes with it.

Who was your favorite/most influential teacher? Mrs. Matlock because she is so organized and level-headed.

What will you miss the most about high school? Being around the same people every day that I have known since kindergarten

Did you find your academic career challenging? The hardest part was time management and learning how to balance soccer, tennis and recently a job and papers.

In what ways has high school prepared you for the future?

Thanks to AP classes I definitely know how to sit down and do homework for hours on end. I learned how to work.

Do you have words of advice for future students? Don't wait until the night before to start a research paper.

VALEDICTORIAN TURNER GILLMORE

Gillmore headed to Arkansas

Turner Gillmore tributes his parents, Marney and Brenda Gillmore, for his success as valedictorian of Munford High School.

“They pushed me all the way through school,” said the 18-year-old.

Turner plans to attend the University of Arkansas where he will study psychology.

His 4.0 GPA and ACT score of 33 earned him a 90 percent out-of-state tuition payment, in addition to the New Arkansan Non-Resident scholarship and the chancellor's award.

He plans to pursue a career that will contribute to psychological research.

“I like working with the brain and I would really like to help people with mental illnesses.”

He ponders his final days of high school, recalling his fondest memory.

“It was the last football game as a senior. We lost, but just being out there on the field for the last time with the team was a powerful moment, kind of bittersweet.”

As for fellow graduates and future students, his advice is simple but goes a long way: “Just do your work and turn it in. As long as you do that the teachers will at least like you and try to help you out.”

What is your fondest memory at school? My fondest memory would definitely be homecoming week each year. It is so much fun competing against every grade and the tailgate we have on Friday is always the highlight of my week.

What is your fondest memory at school? My favorite memory--homecoming week when the seniors dresses up at senior citizens

Where are you going to college and what is your major? I am attending Mississippi College this fall to pursue a degree in Kinesiology.

What is your fondest memory at school? My fondest memory would have to be Homecoming Week at our school. It is a week of fun, friends, and more laughter than ever.

Do you have advice for future students? My advice would be to work hard, but don’t take the fun out of these years.

What are your goals? My goal is to become an Occupational Therapist and be able to truly help others.

Hobbies/pastimes? My hobbies are singing, drawing, and reading when I have the time.

What will you miss the most? I am going to miss my friends and all of the fond memories at TRA

What is your fondest memory at school? One of my fondest memories at Tipton-Rosemark is taking physics with Mrs. Hopper, and the other seven students in the class. Even though it was the hardest class I have ever had to take, I made some good memories complaining about it.

Do you have advice for future students? My advice for future students would be to live your life to the fullest.

Yes, your grades and college applications and ACT scores are important, but do not forget that life is much more than that.

What are your goals? My goal in life is to help people.

I know that I feel my best after I have helped someone else up.

Hobbies/pastimes? My hobbies are mostly reading and spending time with my friends.

What will you miss the most? I will miss the food and the teachers the most at TRA. The teachers have taught me some wonderful lessons over the years, and the food has always been there for me when I needed it.

Do you have advice for future students? Stay true to yourself and never back down from standing up for what you believe in. As 1 Timothy 4:12 says, don't let anyone look down on you because you're young!! Be the change you want to see in the world.

What are your goals? I want to be a CRNA and work at St. Jude. There is nothing I want more than be able to help the kids at St. Jude and spread God's love as a nurse. I hope to be able to travel as much as I can also in the future.

Hobbies/pastimes? I love going to the lake and water skiing, hanging out with my best friends, and traveling.

What will you miss the most? I will miss my best friends and as much as I am excited about going to Knoxville and getting to a big city, I know I will miss my small town!
