Harold B. Dawson, 86, of Burlison, a retired U. S. postmaster for the Burlison post office for more than 30 years, died at his residence. Born in Burlison, he was a World War II Army Veteran and member of Smyrna Baptist Church. Services were March 5 at Maley-Yarbrough Funeral Home with Rev. Clay Gilbreath and Rev. John Warren officiating. Interment was in Indian Creek Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Trixie M. Dawson; a brother, Winford Allen (Ruby) Dawson of Burlison; sisters, Elizabeth Abernathy of Burlison and Hope Womble of Olive Branch, Miss.; a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Karen Clowes and Amelia Rose. Memorials may be sent to Smyrna Baptist Church or the R. H. Munford Cemetery. The Leader (Covington, Tenn.) March 11, 2010

Easter Mae Harwell Date of Death - Feb. 25, 2010 Easter Mae Harville (aka) Harwell, died Feb. 25, 2010 at her residence. Service were held at Fredonia Baptist Church in Stanton. Interment was held in Fredonia Memorial Gardens. Palmer Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. She leaves to celebrate her life, seven children, Chester Harwell of Memphis, Stanley (Quanita) Harwell of Covington, Emma T. (Charles) Herron of Stanton, Georgia Wilson, Arnette Harwell, and Jimmy Harwell Jr. all of Stanton, and Charlie Ingram of Memphis; a sister, Mary Harwell of Memphis, 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her spouse, Jimmy Harwell, and her parents, William and Maggie Sue Arnold Ingram.

Rodney B. Eubank, 72, of Brighton, died at his residence. Mr. Eubank was a retired personnel director for the City of Covington and news editor for The Leader for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Tipton County Board of Education from Sept. 1, 1976 until the time of his death. He served as the chairman of the board since September 1987 and served from 2001-2008 on the Tennessee School Board Association Board of Directors. He also earned the level V board member which is the top level in the state. He also served his country in the Army Air Force Reserve. Services were March 9 at Salem A. R. P. Church with Rev. Charles Todd officiating. Interment was in Salem Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Rose McCain Eubank; daughters, Lynn (Alvis) Ferrell of Brighton and Jenifer Eubank Ridinger of Brighton; a brother, John Y. Eubank Jr. of Collierville and three grandchildren, Brian K. and Kristina L. Ferrell and Hadyn D. Ridinger. Memorials may be sent to Salem A. R. P. Church, Salem Cemetery Fund or Brian Ferrell, Heart Transplant Fund, Regions Bank or 1395 McCain Road, Brighton, TN 38011.

J. D. Burrow Date of Death - Feb. 27, 2010 J.D. Burrow of Somerville, died Feb. 27, 2010. Service were March 6 at Union Hill Baptist Church in Gallaway. Interment was in the church cemetery. Palmer Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. He leaves to cherish his memory, five daughters, Linda J. Gooden (Rickey) Grove of Memphis, Gloria Burrow of Calif., Brenda Burrow of Somerville, Kathryn Burrow of Atlanta, Ga., and Lora Burrow of Seattle, Wash.; three sons, Steven (Linda Redd) Burrow of Memphis, John Burrow of Columbia, SC and Gilbert (Tasha) Burrow of Olive Branch, Miss.; three siblings, Linnie Fletcher, Clara Patterson, and Francis Dye all of Memphis, five grandchildren he reared, Lesalie (Kenneth) Boone, Shanndra Wright and Deborah Gooden all of Memphis, Martin E. (Kisha) Burrow of Virginia and Julian Burrow of Somerville. A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding him in transition are his wife, Laura Mayo Burrow; parents, Gilbert and Alice Murrell Burrow; a daughter, Shirley Burrow; a son, Stanley Burrow, and four siblings, Pearline, Eula, Matt and Tennsie. Ceaser “Cecil” Burton Date of Death - March 4, 2010 Ceaser “Cecil” Burton, 82, of Burlison, retired employee for the Tipton County Board of Education, died at Methodist Hospital North. He was an usher and member of Bright Hill M. B. Church. Visitation will be held March 12 from 2-7 p.m. at Barlow Funeral Home. Saturday visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of the service at 11 a.m. at Greater St. John M. B. Church. Interment will be in Dickens Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mary S. Burton; a daughter, Mable Jefferson of Cordova; sons, Ronny Burton of Burlison and Courtney Burton of Dallas, Texas; his sisters, Marveline Lee of St. Louis, Mo., and Lucille Wright of Milwaukee, Wisc.; brothers, Vernon Burton, Isaiah Burton and Daniel Burton; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The 16th Annual Tipton County Laymen Workshop and Roundup will be held March 13, 2010. The laymen are networking with Covington High School to have a youth workshop Saturday, March 13 from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. starting with registration and a continental breakfast. The Roundup Program is Sunday, March 14 starting at 1:30 p.m. at Canaan Baptist Church, both locations are in Covington, TN.

LAYMEN WORKSHOP AND ROUNDUP PROGRAMS

The workshop speaker will be Mr. Tony Nichelson, a radio personality with Citcom Radio Group. At the workshop, we are expecting representatives from the area colleges, trade schools, technical schools and branches of the military to answer questions concerning college tuition, financial aid and scholarship information.

Thomas Sanford Parker, 65, of Covington, passed away on Tuesday, March 9 at Baptist Hospital Memphis. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 11 at the Covington Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Magnolia Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Parker was a grounds foreman with Bob Baker and served in the Army National Guard. He is survived by his wife, Doris Jean Parker; one son and daughter-in-law, Terry Sanford and Elaine Parker of Greenville, Miss; three grandchildren, Hayley, Kayley and Tyler Beckwith of Greenville, Miss; his mother, Dora Marie Parker Hanks of Little Rock, Ark; two brothers, James Douglas Parker of Kane, Pa. and Embry Neil Parker of Carlsbad, N.M. and two sisters, Linda Darlene Eastman of Carlsbad, N.M. and Cathy Lynn Underwood of Little Rock, Ark. and Water Conservation District has scheduled a tree give-away for March 19 beginning at 8:30 a.m. Pin Oaks and Loblobby Pines will be distributed to the general public while supplies last. The trees may be picked up at the USDA Building located at 2043 Highway 51 South (across from Tipton County Farmer’s CO-Op Car Care) at the northwest entrance. Meetings Educational surrogate parents, who are caring and committed with time to share, are wanted for children who have disabilities.
