BARBARA GEORGE

Welcome to the Ryman Healthcare 2022 Season at The Court Theatre. We are pleased to bring you this compendium of outstanding stories to add to your “must do” list over the next year. Everyone at The Court Theatre works together to achieve this programming under the exceptional artistic leadership of Dan Pengelly. To the team, our whānau, I extend heartfelt thanks for preparing this compelling new season. Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi he toa takitini. My strength is not as an individual but as a collective. The Court Theatre is a much-loved part of the Canterbury community, and we would like to thank Christchurch City Council for their continued partnership with us, especially as we work together to build our new home in the city, opening in 2024. This year we welcome our new season sponsor, Ryman Healthcare. We are very excited about this partnership which brings together two pioneering businesses who share a commitment to help people experience lives that are lived to the full and go beyond the ordinary.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our sponsors and funders and commend them for their support of exceptional theatre in this region. As always, special thanks to our Principal Sponsor, Giesen Wines, who continue to produce the outstanding wine and beer available at our bar. By investing in The Court and our programmes, our sponsors and funders are not only bringing a sense of whānaungatanga, or belonging, to our audiences of today, but ensuring that there will be a future Court Theatre that will continue to be accessible and encourage participation in this wonderful artform for people of all ages. Please enjoy the contents of this brochure that our team have put together for you with aroha. As our world continues to be challenging, The Court Theatre is a place of joy and togetherness – now more than ever. We look forward to seeing you soon. D A N P E N G E L LY

Kia ora and welcome to the Ryman Healthcare 2022 Season at The Court Theatre. In 2022 we will bring you exciting new works and long-running favourites, and we are especially delighted to be able to reschedule some of the much-anticipated shows that you missed seeing in 2021 due to lockdown. The shows presented in the following pages have been carefully chosen with you – our audience – in mind. We think they will pique your curiosity and increase your joy and appreciation of life. When it comes to picking favourites, I hope you find it difficult because there are so many that you will want to see. Like a kid in a candy store, I’d encourage a ‘mixed bag’ approach as this season offers a continuous programme of shows that will sustain you and offer something to look forward to throughout the year. It takes the creativity of many talented artists to build a collection of stories of this magnitude. I acknowledge and thank Shane Bosher, Mel Luckman, Stephen Robertson, Lara Macgregor, Richard Marrett, Holly Chappell-Eason, Tim Bain, Will Burns, Penny

Ashton, Murray Lynch, Sonia Hardy, Kate Louise Elliott, Anna Cameron, Jonathan Bielski, Anthea Williams and Trubie-Dylan Smith for their generous koha of ideas; their input has been invaluable in shaping the 2022 season. Along with The Court's Artistic team, they are our waewae kai kapua – dreaming big and pushing the boundaries so that The Court may continue to stimulate and entertain Ōtautahi Christchurch audiences. Our range of vibrant shows, combined with education that engages theatre lovers aged from seven to 107 with improv workshops and acting classes, youth productions and school tours, ensures that The Court Theatre remains a dynamic space for engaging in live theatre at all levels – we are truly your theatre. Kāore e tae te waewae pakiaka ki te waewae kai kapua. Never will the foot stumbling on roots overtake the adventurous person. Noho ora mai Dan Pengelly Artistic Director | Pou Kaitohu Toi
