Fall in love A

utumn is one of my favourite times of the year. I love seeing the trees change colour, going for long walks and getting cosy on the sofa with a cup of hot chocolate and a great film. I must admit it feels like we haven’t really had a summer this year due to the poor weather, but hopefully, we’ll have a relatively dry season, so we can all enjoy the great outdoors. My fiancé, Dave, and I love Halloween and did consider a themed wedding at one point, but in the end, we decided against it. If you’re having a fun-filled celebration or incorporating autumnal colours into your day, make sure you get in touch to show us pictures.

FESTIVE WONDERLAND This November, Christmas at Kew, a much-loved highlight of London’s festive calendar, returns for its ninth year. Perfect for a romantic pre-wedding celebration, this year’s trail features a host of firm seasonal favourites alongside pioneering new light installations, illuminating Kew Gardens’ UNESCO World Heritage landscape with vibrant bursts of colour and over a million twinkling lights. Using a selection of spectacular trees from Kew’s arboretum as their canvas, the show will include a stunning combination of video design, projection mapping and light to bring Kew’s archived botanical illustrations to life, alongside a host of heart-warming festive imagery.

Cocoa Island, a chocolate shop based in Dorking, has relaunched its wedding services during the pandemic. “We originally started by making bespoke wedding favours for our couples which have been popular since day one of our chocolatier’s inception,” says the owner Natasha Cocoa. “Then speaking to couples who were needing to postpone their weddings or move them, with budgets becoming tighter as lifestyles were changing, we looked to create something unique, and so our chocolate truffle tower was born.

Historic Royal Palaces

HAMPTON COURT PALACE, KT8 9AU 02031 666 507 | www.hrp.org.uk/weddings Hampton Court Palace was the chosen place of residence for many kings and queens of England and has elaborately expanded over the centuries.

With building beginning in 1515, the Tudor palace, with its red-rose Tudor brick, soon became a favourite of King Henry VIII. In the 17th century, William and Mary expanded the palace with the contrasting Baroque architectural style of Wren. The property is guaranteed to impress with its cobbled courtyards, peaceful gardens and soaring staterooms.

The Privy Garden was created to allow a quiet space for the monarch’s exclusive use, but today the garden has been restored for everyone to enjoy how it would have looked for William III in 1702. The Privy Garden can be used for private receptions, with guests able to arrive by boat and enter the palace through the magnificent Tijou Screens, designed by Jean Tijou in 1690, straight into the garden.

Celebrate in style The Little Banqueting House is a small but picturesque space, ideal for intimate celebrations of up to 50 guests for a ceremony and seated reception and 80 for a drinks reception. Built for William III, it’s set slightly away from the main palace, overlooking the river with a rich sense of majesty and history.

Set in the beautiful Tiltyard Gardens, The Garden Room was built in a 1920s style and boasts a private walled garden. Large enough to seat 180 friends and family, it’s licensed for both indoor and outdoor ceremonies, and is a great area for live bands and dancing. It also can be used in conjunction with other spaces, including the Little Banqueting House or the Palace State Apartments, to provide a memorable day for all guests.

The King’s Guard Chamber displays a remarkable collection of nearly 3,000 swords, bayonets, muskets and pistols on the walls. auren and Luke met in June 2006 at work. “My friend asked me to cover her shift, and we were put together in the same section,” says Lauren. “Luke later asked my friend what shifts I worked so he could keep seeing me. He eventually asked me out, and the rest is history.”

Luke proposed during a trip to Rome to celebrate Lauren’s 30th birthday. “We stayed near the Spanish steps, and every night after dinner, we would get gelato nearby,” shares the bride. “We would walk to the fountain and sit eating our desserts. On the last evening, he asked me to be his wife. I was surprised but thankful it was quiet and just the two of us. I had always wanted an emerald ring, so he proposed with a temporary ring, and on our 13th anniversary, we went to Brighton and picked the most gorgeous antique ring with two diamonds.”

We had visited many venues, and nothing felt right, but as soon as we arrived at Lythe Hill Hotel for a wedding fair, we fell in love. The main Tudor building is stunning and having lunch on their patio overlooking beautiful views of their gazebo was perfect. All of the staff were so lovely, and we just knew it was the right location for us.

I made our table plan from an Ikea ladder. I painted it white, added faux rose garlands and used hessian string and pegs to hang the cards in the middle.

Luke and I decorated the space with jars that we embellished with twigs and floating candles. Marley Flowers provided white and green roses and thistles which looked beautiful.

As the ceremony and reception were in the same location, we didn’t need transport, but as my dad was a black cab driver, I had always wanted him to drive me. We rented a car from Classic London Taxi to be the centrepiece for our photos, and it was definitely worth it.

Lythe Hill Hotel was amazing at meeting all our dietary requirements and giving us a variety of options. We had so many positive comments about the canapés, and the dinner was lovely. The team were able to amend the meals to suit our tastes, and it was perfect.

I always knew I wanted a Bardot dress as it suited my shape and balanced my broad shoulders. I looked at various patterns, but wanted something simple and elegant. As the dress was so simple, I didn’t want to over accessorise, so I chose a cathedral-length veil, a hair clip and Paradox London shoes.

Luke wore a custom-made suit from King & Allen. It was a lighter grey than the groomsmen’s outfits and had a custom waistcoat that was lined with a red skull motif. He had a gold pocket watch as a wedding gift from me, a matching gold tie clip and cufflinks with our initials on them.

We chose dark green floor-length bridesmaids’ dresses.

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we were limited on what we were able to do. As we were one of the first weddings to go ahead, there were still some restrictions, so we decided not to book a band in case of cancellation. We booked Lythe Hill Hotel’s DJ to play songs and get everyone on the dancefloor.

We hired a beautiful wooden photo booth for three hours from Outside and Instant Photography. We got some wonderful photos of all our guests, and everyone loved it. I didn’t want the usual tacky accessories, so Outside and Instant Photography made their own wooden signs, including one they gifted to us on the day.

At the meadow, we were given some champagne and were able to go off just the two of us, which was lovely.

We were incredibly nervous about talking in front of so many people. Whilst getting ready, I felt calm until I was in my dress and the excitement and nerves kicked in. After talking to the registrar, I had a lovely moment with my dad and bridesmaids. We talked to each other and joked to settle the nerves even when my veil tried to blow away and take my hair extensions with it!

For the photos, we bought decomposable confetti cannons and white smoke bombs, but it didn’t go to plan! The confetti bombs went off at different times and the smoke bombs burnt two holes in the groomsmen’s shirts! You needed to pull the pin out at the bottom and turn around, but we weren’t quick enough, which made for some very funny photos.

Everyone made wonderful speeches that were uplifting, but it was Luke’s that brought a tear to my eye.

The day was made extra special by all the staff and suppliers, who all went the extra mile to make the day go smoothly. Even when we were a half-hour late to dinner because we were taking extra photos! The hotel staff went above and beyond for us not only on the day, but working with us beforehand.

helsea and Ryan met at a family wedding. “In the evening, we both had a bit too much drink and kissed on the dancefloor in front of everyone,” says Chelsea. “My dad came in between us, and the rest is history!”

Ryan popped the question at the Yosemite National Park in California.

“We went on a road trip back in 2018,” shares the bride. “Ryan insisted we visit the park, so we spent a couple of days there. We parked at the bottom of a mountain for a picnic. We walked up to the top, which was scary as we had to watch out for bears because of our food! Once we were at the top, we watched the sunset, and Ryan surprised me by asking me to be his wife.

We came back down the mountain in complete darkness and managed to find our car. On the way back to the hotel, the car hit a pothole, and we spent an hour changing the tyre!”

SETTING THE SCENE “We spent months searching for the perfect reception venue and struggled to find everything we were looking for in one place,” explains Chelsea.

“We wanted a bar in the same room as the dancefloor and somewhere which would be safe and picturesque if it rained. My grandad suggested Oatlands Park Hotel in Weybridge, which we had never heard of before.

We went there and quickly fell in love. It was perfect! The Mulberry Suite had an open area, high ceilings, a bar and was just beautiful. The gardens were also stunning, with lots of flowers and a rose arch for family photos. The lake was a bonus as I’d always wanted photos next to the water. We booked the venue and scheduled our date for 4th July, 2020, but sadly, like so many couples, we had to postpone due to COVID-19. When it came round to our new date in June 2021, we still didn’t know what kind of wedding we were going to have. Within that year, we sadly both lost our nannies, which was devastating as if COVID wasn’t around, they would have been there. On the day itself, it was scheduled to rain and be stormy, so we brought an umbrella and expected the worst weather. We woke up to rain, and although we were gutted, we accepted it. When it was time for me to leave for the church, the sun came out, and it unbelievably stayed dry and sunny for the rest of the day. We believe it was our nannies shining down on us.”

The happy couple had their ceremony at St Mary Oatlands Church. “We have been attending for three years before getting married, and everyone there is so friendly and welcoming,” the bride adds. “The vicar, Folli, is a huge character. He made our wedding special, and all our guests loved his funny comments. When we came out of the church, we had a little surprise for my dad. He is a Londoner and loves Only Fools and Horses, so we organised for Del Boy’s yellow three-wheeler van to hide around the back of the church. When we came out of the church, and my dad saw it, he burst into tears. That was his ride back to the hotel, and we followed him in a Rolls Royce from Clover Care. Our driver, David, was such a gentleman. He used to be in the RAF, and since Ryan is an airline pilot, it was a perfect match.

We found out before the wedding that the car was also used for Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas’ wedding in France. We had to have it once we found out as I love Game of Thrones!”

allowed at their wedding until a few weeks before. “This was a nightmare to plan and organise, as things were so last minute,” recalls Chelsea. “The favours were small white boxes that we filled with chocolate hearts and love heart sweets. We had five children at the wedding, and to keep them entertained, we created boxes for them filled with mini-colouring books, toys and sweeties. Our table plan was also a last-minute panic as several guests could no longer attend due to the pandemic. We wanted something personal to us, and since we’ve been lucky enough to have travelled to many places around the world together, we decided on a map from Paper Adventure Co. We used the places we’d previously visited as table names with a small sentence about each area.”

The couple decided on an elegant and neutral theme for their décor. “The Mulberry Room speaks for itself, so we wanted to keep the embellishments paired back,” says the bride. “We had sash covers and white and pink flowers on the tables. On the top table, we had a spray in front of us, scattered rose petals and four vases for the bridesmaids to put their bouquets in.”

Chelsea and Ryan chose a four-tiered cake from Iced Innovations.

“We opted for lemon, chocolate and carrot cake which were all amazing,” Chelsea shares. “The top tier was reserved just for us. We took it home and enjoyed it over the next couple of days. The rest of the food was provided by Oatlands Park Hotel. We had a light starter of parma ham, melon, rocket salad and pine nuts. For the main, we opted for a slice of beef, roast potatoes and vegetables, with red wine jus and the chocolate brownie dessert was kindly created by the chef who knew we were chocoholics.”

DRESSED TO IMPRESS “My dress was an Essense of Australia design from The Bridal Room,” explains the bride. “I wanted a dress that would suit my figure and height. The team at the boutique were amazing and incredibly friendly.

The gown itself was covered in sparkles, which is exactly what I wanted. It was incredibly flattering, and the train was just perfect. I accessorised with an understated tiara from Lace & Favour, and the bridesmaids wore similar versions from Next.”

Ryan chose a navy suit from Marks and Spencer and a small flower that matched the bride’s bouquet.

“We wanted the four bridesmaids’ dresses to colour match my gown, so we went for a champagne design from House of Fraser,” adds the bride. “The dresses were comfortable and very flattering.”

TIME TO CELEBRATE “We hired a DJ from JB Entertainment and a mirror photo booth,” recalls Chelsea. “Both were equally entertaining! The same day was the semi-final of the Euros cup with England VS Denmark. When the final result came through, and we knew England had gone through to the finals, the DJ played Football’s Coming Home, which of course got everyone on their feet celebrating.”

MEMORABLE MOMENTS “The pandemic had put a downer on planning the wedding, but when it came to the day, we were just so happy that it was finally happening,” says the bride. “The bridesmaids and groomsmen were so helpful, and we honestly couldn’t have done it without them. We’re so proud of every single one of them!”

The happy couple asked their videographer, Blondot Productions, to record their speeches. “The speeches were hilarious, and I’d highly recommend having them recorded to look back on,” shares Chelsea.

“We’d seen that Blondot Productions had used smoke bombs in one of their videos, so we bought a white and pink version to try down by the lake in the evening. We tried the white one first as a trial, and it went well, although the wind wasn’t exactly going in the right direction.

Ryan then let off the pink one and threw it behind him, straight onto my dress! When lighting a smoke bomb, you are supposed to throw it as 45

far away as possible to avoid staining. He is lucky we didn’t get a divorce there and then! Looking back, I see the pink smoke stain on the dress as a funny reminder of our day!”

“There were a couple of suppliers who went above and beyond for us,” Chelsea adds. “Ella, who is the wedding coordinator at Oatlands Park Hotel, our photographer, and Erica from Iced Innovations were all incredibly kind and helpful. They are some of the nicest people we have ever met!”

HONEYMOON “Our honeymoon had to be postponed due to COVID-19,” says the bride. “We were lucky we were still able to go on a road trip to see some old friends in Sheffield and Edinburgh. We hope to go to Tenerife soon and are looking forward to some hot weather!”

orena and William met at university. “Although a little cliché, William played for the football team, and I was a cheerleader who would dance at his games,” says Lorena. “We often crossed paths, and one day in the gym, he asked me out on a date, and the rest is history.”

William proposed on 22nd November, 2019. “I joined William on one of his football scouting trips in Prague,” shares the bride. “He said we would be in the VIP area of the football ground, which got me very excited, but it fell through, and we ended up in the outdoor stands.

After the game, we walked through a lovely park, and I felt slightly paranoid and convinced myself we were being followed by a stranger, so I insisted we leave the park. William was adamant we couldn’t leave, which was weird and almost caused us to argue! After a lot of walking, William stopped at the top of a hill, where we had a full view of the city. He told me this was a lucky spot where people threw pennies down the hill and make a wish. He passed me a coin holder, which I bought him years back as it was the same one my grandfather had. I opened it and an engagement ring was inside. He then got down to one knee and proposed to me!”

We wanted to embrace that it was a COVID-1 9 wedding, so a month before, we sent everyone personalised face masks and hand sanitisers to use on the day. The men had emerald green masks to match the bridesmaids’ dresses, and the women wore light pink versions. Both the masks and the bottles had a personalised logo with our initials and wedding date on.

I didn’t want anything too complex for the centrepieces, so we chose fairylight gin bottles and floral arrangements placed on wood log slices, surrounded by green eucalyptus and olive branches. We had candle holders filled with water and a floating euca candle candd on the top. Our top table had one long wreath of eucalyptus and olive branches with beautiful white roses from Holly & the Ivy.

The ballroom can seat around 180 people, but we only had 30, so we had to gget creative and make the room feel more intim ate. We, therefore, hired fairylight screens that were three meters high and cut off more than half of the room. It was actually quite beautiful as the entire wall was white and sparkly!

The one thing I wanted to mak e sure of was that the guests were taken care of and didn’t need to drive between the church and the venue. Our parents surprised us with a video of my entire American and Italian family wishing us a happy wedding day. I cannot imagine how long that must have taken as there were many people involved. It was one of the most wonderful things that anyone has ever done for me, and I was very emotional watching my family on the big screen.

PLANNING SOS Q – We’ve just started wedding planning, and I’m slightly confused about what a celebrant does! Can you help?

The ceremony is the heart of the day, and a celebrant will set the vibe, tone and energy for the rest of your nuptials. A celebrant-led ceremony allows you to make it personalised, heartfelt, silly or fun. We bring your vision to life. We can weave your words and songs into a tailormade one-of-a-kind service. There are no rules, regulations or limits to what you can and can’t include.

Your supplier will explore what you’re about as a couple. What your hopes and aspirations are, so you can begin married life feeling happy and excited about your future.

They will rehearse with you so you can manage your anxiety, get the timings right, support the reader as they share your readings and make sure you’re both 100 per cent ready for the day.

Usually, as a celebrant, my couples would have done their marriage license ahead of the ceremony, but occasionally the registrar kicks off the ceremony with the legal details, introduces me, then leaves, and I take over. Sometimes I conduct the ceremony, then whilst the guests have canapés, the couple register their marriage and join us afterwards.

THE LOVE OF MY LIFE Writing your own vows can be daunting, but if you follow some simple guidelines, then it can be the emotional highlight of your ceremony. It’s important to discuss your vows with your partner before you start composing them, so you can agree how long they should be, whether you would like them to include humour or to be traditionally sentimental.

To ensure you get the celebration you both want it’s important to find a supplier that shares the same values as you. There are several ways to find a supplier, for example, search engines, wedding magazines, websites or The Celebrant Directory. I advise reading bios and visiting the websites of those you like so you get a feel for their style and how they work with couples. Each celebrant will differ in how they work or the style in which they conduct the ceremony. Some offer specialities such as rituals, outdoor weddings or a particular theme. Once you’ve looked at enough websites, organise a call with your top three and see who you click with best. It’s important to have a good rapport with your supplier so you can be open with them. I meet with my couples after the initial phone call as I think it helps build the relationship, and I like to keep them involved when I am writing, so I can ensure I get everything spot on. One bride who contacted me used the same words to describe how she and her fiancé wanted their ceremony as I used to describe mine to the celebrant I chose, so we just clicked automatically.

County Wedding Magazines editor Melissa Barker shares her wedding planning journey

I

can’t quite believe that my wedding is only 10 months away! The time is going by so fast, and it still feels like we have so much left to plan!

As some of you may know, within the first few months of being engaged we’d booked our venue, photographer and caterer and were on the lookout for the rest of our suppliers.

With the pandemic pushing most weddings back in to 2022, we found that a lot of companies we were interested in booking weren’t available. Not to be defeated, we carried on searching knowing it was best to get everything sorted as early as possible.

My fiancé, Dave, and I are enjoying the process, but it can feel slightly overwhelming at times. With such a big family and many coming from abroad, we’ve found it difficult trying to keep everyone happy while also maintaining our original budget, but we’re still super excited to see what the day will look like.

FLORAL WONDERS I love flowers and fully believe they can transform any venue into a beautiful space, so choosing the perfect florist was really important to me. I wanted something to tie in with our blush and sage green colour scheme but also complement our barn venue. Despite working in the wedding industry for more than five years, I’m ashamed to admit my knowledge of flowers isn’t great, g , so I needed a supplier pp who w would w

be able to make suggestions and help us bring our vision to life.

Whilst looking through social media, I happened to come across a stunning, oversized bouquet that was exactly what I wanted. I looked up the company and found they were based just five minutes from our wedding venue – I thought it was fate! The florist had a range of pre-made packages that suited our needs perfectly. We checked the company’s reviews online, confirmed availability for our day and discussed our needs. The team were fantastic and even suggested ways of helping us save money, which we really appreciated.

We booked bouquets, buttonholes, pew ends, centrepieces and an arrangement for the top table, which we’re excited to see. As we were in lockdown at the time, we were unable to meet our florist in person, so when restrictions lifted slightly we travelled to meet them at a wedding fair. Being able to discuss our vision in person made us feel confident about our decision, and I’d definitely recommend meeting face-to-face if possible.

DRESSED TO IMPRESS After being engaged for a few months, I decided to give in to my mum’s nagging and go dress shopping. I’m short, curvy and very selfconscious, so I was dreading trying on gowns!

W We visited our local boutique, and since I had nno idea of what style I wanted, I must admit I felt quite overwhelmed. I started with a fishtail, fe which I liked the look of, but it just didn’t feel w lilike me; I also felt like I couldn’t sit down without bursting out of it! I quickly moved onto an A-line b ssilhouette. The second gown I tried on was one II’d seen online and loved. It had three-quarterlength sleeves, a detailed bodice, a plunging le nneckline and lots of lace. On paper, this sounds lilike everything I didn’t want in a dress, but sstrangely enough, it turned out to be the one.

I tried on a few different options afterwards ((mainly for fun), but I found fault in all of them

and always came back to my dress. It needs some alterations as it’s slightly too big, but I purchased it there and then. I would share a picture with you all, but Dave reads this and is (annoyingly) traditional so is against seeing the dress before the big day!

One thing I didn’t anticipate was how I would feel after purchasing it. I always thought I’d feel over the moon, but instead, I felt quite panicked. Not because I didn’t love the dress, but after years of writing about weddings, I felt so much pressure to have this overcome-withemotion moment when wearing the one for the first time, that I started to question if I’d made the right decision. I’ve since come to realise that everyone is different, and I absolutely adore my dress whether I cried or not. I’ve spoken to a few of my married friends, and some had similar experiences, which was reassuring to hear! My advice to any bride-to-be is to go with your gut, don’t panic about how you should be feeling or what you should be wearing, do what makes you happy!

BRIDE’S DIARY

We haven’t decided on a table plan yet, but we like the idea of names hanging from string surrounded by gorgeous flowers.

I love confetti pictures, and it’s something I really want our photographer to capture on the big day. We’re currently looking into eco-friendly options and trying to decide which colour to use.

Our photographer has suggested taking pictures of my dress in different parts of the venue, and I’m excited to see what he comes up with.

Seeing as this July it rained, a lot, we’ve purchased some white umbrellas just in case the weather turns bad for our July wedding next year.

How stunning is this flower arch?! I’d love to incorporate something like this into our day.

Our colour scheme is blush and sage green, so we’re going to incorporate both hues into our table decorations.

The chalkboard signage trend is here to stay!

I, for one, adore it and am thinking of using one as our welcome sign.

To decorate our wedding chairs, we’re thinking of acquiring wooden bride and groom signs.

To keep the rings safe, we’re planning to buy an engraved box that we can keep for years to come.

Emolyne Ramlov, founder of the eponymous make-up brand, talks inclusivity and bringing a colour boost to your bridal beauty

It’s our first anniversary soon and there’s been so much to learn over that time. Covid made things difficult as we actually went into lockdown around two weeks before launch. But we’d worked so hard for two-and-a-half years and I didn’t want to delay. It was a risk, but luckily it went crazy. Black Lives Matter came along and as an inclusive brand headed up by a black woman there was a lot of interest in what we had to offer. Everything happens for a reason.

orn in Uganda and raised in Denmark Emolyne Ramlov discovered a passion for make-up upon entering her teenage years. Until the age of 13 when she moved to Europe she hadn’t been permitted to wear make-up, which in Africa was seen as a distraction from studying and an unwelcome beginning to a flirtation with the opposite sex. So, it was a complete culture shock for her as she sat alongside her new classmates to find them in full beat and looking glam. “I went home and said to my mum: ‘We need to talk!’ She took me shopping and I filled my basket with as much make-up as I could.

I needed to catch up and I haven’t stopped since,” she tells us.

County Wedding Magazines’ beauty editor, Kelly Andrews, met up with Emolyne to discover more about her journey from passionate teenager to creating her very own make-up brand.

What was the inspiration behind Emolyne?

As my love for make-up grew I visited plenty of big stores looking for products to suit my skin tone, but couldn’t find the right ones. They had two to three reds perhaps, but none that I 90

liked or were complementary. As I grew older I realised that this was a problem across a lot of different product ranges. There was no single brand offering a matching lipstick, liner and nail polish, so I thought: “Well, I’m just going to do this then!”

I use a lot of reds and nudes myself, so it made sense to start there, making sure that no matter the skin tone someone would be able to get at least one of each. I created 15 reds and 15 nude shades and even then I wasn’t sure if I should stop! The range has five colours for light, five for medium and five for dark skin tones. It allows people to pick a different colour for different seasons, as our skin tone changes throughout the year. I also created a kit to save my customers time, meaning once they discover their perfect shade they can easily find the matching products.

When it came to naming this huge range of shades I wanted to be able to tell a story while keeping the brand personal, so I immediately thought of Africa. It was a way of honouring my place of birth and bringing the whole story together. Plus, I knew I could never run out of names if I looked there for inspiration!

Tell us more about the ideas, ethics and beliefs the company is founded on.

I wanted this brand to be for everyone, no matter their gender or race – if you’re into make-up this is the place for you. The selection is big enough that everyone can feel included, which was the key.

How do we achieve that perfect marriage between skin tone and make-up shades?

The easiest way for us was to put models on our website covering as many different skin tones as

we could. That way customers can see whose is the closest to their own and how each shade looks on her.

Tell us about your own beauty regime.

I keep it simple. I wash my face every morning and evening, as well as steaming to open the pores, which allows serums to absorb more effectively. I use serum everywhere – hands, face, neck. These are the areas that start to show signs of age once you reach 40, so it’s important to look after them. A dermatologist once told me to use serum on my dry hands, and up to then I’d always thought it was just for the face, but I’ve never looked back. Ole Henriksen’s Truth Serum is my favourite, and not just because he’s a fellow Dane!

What are your make-up bag must-haves?

Uganda, Casablanca and Abuja are my favourite Emolyne shades. But it’s like being asked about my favourite child – they’re all my babies! I mainly wear a nude during the day for meetings, and in the evening I prefer reds.

I’m particularly into red oranges at the moment.

I always carry a nail polish with me too – Cameroon is versatile and works for all skin tones. And tissues... a mum can’t work without a tissue!

What’s your top wedding-day make-up look?

I’d go for something light depending on hair colour and skin tone. Keep it simple, elegant

and clean to keep focus on the eyes. You want your new spouse to see you sparkle. For light skin tones I’d recommend Luxor, Eritrea or Ciaro. For medium tones Tanzania, Kampala or Uganda work beautifully. And for darker tones Nairobi, Asmara or Marrakech are all perfect.

Begin by using your favourite moisturiser, I’m a fan of a thick formulation in the winter.

That serves as a base for the foundation and concealer. Then, keep building the look until you’re happy. Don’t start too strong as it’s hard to take anything back once you’ve gone too far.

Rule your shade and don’t be afraid to try something you haven’t tried before, they’re there to be explored.”

What advice would you offer a bride who might not be used to wearing make-up but who wants to step it up for the wedding?

I’d tone it down, don’t use too much. A little colour makes the lips pop, and match that to the eyeshadow for an on trend monochromatic look.

What’s the one make-up secret you wish everyone knew?

Moisturise properly before you do anything else. That’ll give you that all-important glow and

sets your make-up for long-lasting perfection. It was essential to me that our lipsticks last so you don’t have to keep topping it up throughout the day and that’s particularly important for a bride.

What’s your proudest achievement so far?

Definitely having the brand recognised for inclusivity. I love to see people go on the website and realise just how much choice there is, and hearing them say they just don’t know which to choose.

The other thing for me was being able to make the products vegan and cruelty-free. I wanted to educate people to care about what they put on their skin, so this makes me really happy.

Is there anything you’d still like to achieve?

So much! Every day we listen to our consumers and what they want.
