strong interest in nonprofit organizations has led Mechell Frost to dive into her new position as the director of Highland County's Morgan Bodenhamer Senior Center. Frost began her work with the senior center Jan. 3 and has since been learning and growing within the organization. "I'm still learning in this position and have a lot of support from volunteers and staff," Frost said. "Rosalee Morgan helped me learn the ropes and was my mentor here when I first started." Frost said the senior center also has a great board of directors who are very supportive. As director, Frost oversees the programming of the senior center and said she hopes to help lead it to sucMeredith Creek/The Times-Gazette cess. FFA SELLING GREENHOUSE GOODS
Young son’s uncontrolled anger endangers himself and his dog
The Hillsboro FFA Chapter has been working hard since January in the FFA’s greenhouse to learn how to properly grow and care for a variety of flowers and plants such as petunias, begonias, zinnias, coleus, geraniums and dianthus. The FFA now has the products for sale to the public. Prices include flats for $10, 4-inch pots for $1, 8-inch pots for $5, 10-inch hanging baskets for $10, 12-inch hanging baskets for $15, 14-inch pots for $20, 10-inch pots for $10 and 6-inch pots for $3. FFA members look forward to sharing their flowers and plants with the public. The Hillsboro FFA greenhouse will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays by appointment. "The Ohio State University family nutrition program comes in the third Tuesday of the month and has a display to educate about USDA food groups and yummy recipes... Genesis comes in to do blood pressure checks and the Highland County Health Department brings the care-a-van," Frost said. She added that the OSU college of dentistry also recently came to the center and provided free dental care for individuals age 60 and older.

"They took care of the patients really well," Frost said. Reflexology and massage therapy are two services geared more toward just the paid members of the senior center. Before beginning her new position, Frost received a bachelor degree in communication studies and a master degree in special education, both from Wright State University. She had previously worked for General Electric in Peebles, where she grew up, and she spent some time working at Heartland of Hillsboro in the activities department. "All of my jobs as a whole helped shape my well-rounded experience," Frost said. The membership at the Morgan Bodenhamer Senior Center is growing and currently sits at 757. An associate membership is available for those between the ages of 21 and 49 for $25 per year, regular membership for those 50 and older for $20 per year, and anyone who is 90 years of age or older receives a free lifetime membership. Frost said that a detailed referral list is kept in the lobby for anyone looking for services not provided at the senior center. "They can see what services we provide in our community," she said. But without the board of directors, members, volunteers, and staff, Frost said none of it would be possible. "They all do a great job. I couldn't do it without them and I appreciate everything they've done and are still doing," she said. Nearly everyone is aware the cavities form in teeth as a result of the acid produced by bacteria eating away at tooth enamel. What most people don’t know is that tooth enamel can also repair itself to some degree. Known as “remineralization,� the process occurs when calcium in the saliva (and from other sources) replaces lost calcium.
