We are delighted to ﬁnally announce the ofﬁcial opening of our forever home.

A special exhibition at Beccles and District Museum, which is available until the end of the season, tells the story of how The Beccles Society began and how it has played an important role in the town, such as in the campaign to save the bell tower in the 1970s and in the creation of the Themuseum.exhibition describes the Society's presidents, starting with Field Marshall Sir Claude Auchinleck and continuing up to the current president, Martin Bell OBE. It also includes images of the plaques installed on historic buildings around Beccles to commemorate notable residents and/or provide information about the buildings.

Another aspect of the Society's work that is illustrated in the exhibition is the Dr Nicholson Award, which is presented annually to recognise new or signiﬁcantly restored buildings of architectural merit. The exhibition also features several booklets about Beccles history published by the Society.

A new singing group for people with dementia and memory problems is being launched in Beccles later this month by The Salvation

'SingingArmy.by Heart' creates the opportunity for people with dementia and their carers to come together informally to sing and reminisce in a safe place.

Harry Woods is the leader of The Salvation Army in Beccles and will be leading the group. Before joining the church and charity, he worked in the care sector, mainly caring for people living with dementia. Harry said: "I've been speaking to local people and there's a deﬁnite appetite for something like this. Each month, we'll be singing a selection of well-known songs and traditional hymns while there will also be the opportunity to socialise and chat, both for people with dementia and theirHarrycarers."stressed that the group is as much for carers as those living with the condition.

'Singinglater. by Heart' begins at: The Salvation Army, 6472 Blyburgate, Beccles on 29th September from 10am11:30am and will be held on the last Thursday of every month. Sessions are £2 per person.

At time of writing (3rd September), the last rainfall of any note, 0.50" on 30th June was over nine weeks ago, rightly the water companies and many sectors of the economy have expressed their concerns about this prolonged drought.

Warmest summer on entire record: 18.5C. The mean temp narrowly exceeded 2018 and 2003 (18.26C). All three months somewhat warmer than average, June (+1.2C), July (+1.8C) and August (+2.4C). As widely reported, the two hottest days were recorded on 18th and 19th July (34.6C and 34.5C respectively).

Just nine days recorded 25C or better during 2021. The warmest day of 28.8C was recorded on 18th July while the August high was 26.3C on the 11th. Mean temp for this August was 3.4C, while July was 1.75C higher than 2021.

It also had the highest "lowest maximum" for August and of any month, 21.3C on 29th. This exceeded the "previous bests" 20.5C (July 2006), 20.3C (August
