TheJuniorNationalswereheldforthefirsttimethisyear,andtheyarebackagainnext year.TheyareheldoverthetwoweekEasterschoolholidaystogivepeoplethebest opportunitytogetoutfishing.Thiswillbethe7th tothe22nd ofApril2023.Wewillbe holdingourfamilydaycompetitiononthe16th Aprilsothatanyofourjuniorstaking partinthenationalscanalsofishthiscompetition.

Atthismonthsclubmeeting,on30th NovemberattheCossieClub,wearehavingaspecial meetingtogetreadyforsummer.Theemphasisisonkeepingourselvessafeoverthe comingfishingseason.Coastguardwillbegivingusasafetybriefing,asthiswillbeourlocal WaiukuCoastguarditwillbeespeciallyrelevanttoourlocalarea.Jordan,fromHutchwilco, willbegivingatalkanddemonstrationonchoosingandusingtherightlifejackets.Counties Marinewillhavealargeselectionoflifejacketsforyoutotryonandanylifejacketordered onthenightwillbe30%offtherecommendedretailprice.Thejacketswillthenbeavailable forcollectionfromCountiesMarineinPukekohe.
BestofallCountiesMarinehavearrangedaveryspecialdealforclubmemberswhowantto purchaseaPersonalLocatorBeacon.TheywillhaveACRPLB’s,whichwillcomewitha mountingpouchasshowninthephoto,whichwouldusuallycost$599forthePLBand $49.90forthepouchforatotalcostof$450.Thisofferisstrictlyforclubmembersandis onlyavailableonthenight. Thisisatotalsavingof$198.90.Iftheyrunoutofbeacons theywilltakeordersatthisprice,butorderscan only beplacedonthenight.

Theweatherwasnotthebestforthiscompetition,buttherewerestillsomegoodfish caughtoverthetwodays.UnfortunatelyClevedonmanagedtobeatusagainthisyear, althoughitwasmuchcloserthanlastyear.Infactonegoodsnapperfromuswouldhave tippedittheotherway,butthatdidn’thappen.Asusualthefishcaughtweredonatedto thecharityGrandparentsRaisingGrandchildren.Wecanbesurethatagoodnumberof familieswereeatingfreshfishthatweek,thattheymightnotusuallybeabletoafford.
