Asyouwillhaveseenfromthephotoonthefrontcoverthefirstmarlininclubwatershas beencaughtbyaclubmember.Thefirstmarlinoffthewestcoastwascaughtafewdays earlier,sotheyaredefinitelyoutthere.ThefishonthecoverwascaughtbyWiremu,fishing offFromADistanceandtheskipperwasSanta.Itwascaughtingridsquare6,whichis sponsoredbyWaiukuAutohub.Asitonlyweighed89.6kgitdoesnotcountforthetrophy, whichisstillupforgrabs

TheJuniorNationalswereheldforthefirsttimethisyear,andtheyarebackagainnext year.TheyareheldoverthetwoweekEasterschoolholidaystogivepeoplethebest opportunitytogetoutfishing.Thiswillbethe7th tothe22nd ofApril2023.Wewillbe holdingourfamilydaycompetitiononthe16th Aprilsothatanyofourjuniorstaking partinthenationalscanalsofishthiscompetition.

OurLegaSeateamhasbeenequallybusyraisingawarenessforallthegoodworkourNew ZealandSportFishingCouncilfisheriesteamhasachievedinreactingtoimportantissues.We don'talwaysgetitright,butwedoourbesttoanalysethestreamofinformationandbreakit downsoyoucanhaveyoursay.
OurbiggestchallengethisyearwasamendingtheFisheriesAct.FisheriesNewZealandhad proposedtoremovepublicconsultationfromdecisionmakingprocesses.Thankfullyyourvoice washeard.Thankyoutoeveryonewhosubmitted,sharedtheirviewsandinsights.LegaSeais ateameffortandyourinputisgratefullyreceived.
ForChristmas,wewanttheofficialsandpoliticianstoknowweareontothemin2023.Weno longeracceptmediocritywhenitcomestoprotectingourmoanaforusandourkids.Wewant policy,standardsandactiontodelivermorefishinthewater(thatmeansreturningcoastalfish populationstoaminimumof50%oftheiroriginalsize)andafairgoforallKiwis.
