Theyhaveareputationforgoodqualityworkmanship,honestyand reliability.TheonsitetechniciansareexpertsinMercury,Etech,Evinrude &JohnsonservicingandrepairsaswellasYamaha,SuzukiandHonda. Theycanalsofitneworusedoutboardenginesanddotrailerrepairs, springs,winchesandrollers.

OffthebackofarecentvideowepostedforInternationalFisherman'sday,TheNew ZealandSportFishingCouncil(NZSFC)reachedouttotheInternationalGameFish Association(IGFA)regardingacommondisputeinthedeep-droppingcommunity.The questionwaswhetheritisacceptabletowindinaslacklinewiththerodstillintherod holderafteraswordfishbite.TheIGFAhasclarifiedthatthisactionisnotconsidered aninfractionoftheirAnglingRules,aslongastheangleristheonlyonereelingand removestherodfromtheholderoncethelinebecomestight.Experiencedanglersmay knowwhenthebaitistaken,buttheofficialinterpretationconsidersthefish``hooked" onlywhenthelineistight.NZSFCaimstopublicisethisclarificationtohelpanglers'fish inaccordancewithIGFArules.

Afteragreatcomplastyearthiscompetitionisbackagain,butwithabrandnew format.Insteadofjustonedaysfishingthecompetitionwillrunfromthe4th of Novemberrightuptothe26th ofNovember.Thisshouldgiveeveryoneachancetoget outandfishthecompetitionatsometime.Youcanfishasmany,orasfew,daysas youlike.Thiswillbealengthbasedcompetition,soentrieswillbebysubmittingphotos ofyourcatchonanapprovedmeasuringmat.Theprizegivingwillbeheldatour Novemberclubmeetingonthe29th November.Thiscompetitionwillonlybeopento CountiesSportFishingClubmembers.

TherehavebeenfourNewZealandtagged stripedmarlinrecapturedthisseason.One taggedinJanuary2022intheBayofIslandswas recapturedbyaJapaneselonglinerintheCoral SeainJulyorAugust2022.Theprocessed weightwas66.4kg.Itisgoodtogetareport fromtheJapaneseBillfish,SharkandBycatch Groupalthoughthetagwasrecoveredwhen landedandmoredetailsareunavailable.The secondstripedmarlinwastaggedoffTeKaha, BayofPlentyon4February2023aftera30minutefight.Thisfishwasestimatedtoweigh 110kg.Itwasrecapturedfromthevessel MadgesticnorthofthePoorKnightson1March 2023.Therefore,thefishwasrecapturedabout 190nauticalmilesnorthwestfromitstagging locationafter25daysatlibertyandwasretagged andreleased.Twostripedmarlinwereretagged andreleasedwithoutretrievingtheexistingtag. Marlinrecapturesareanimportantcomponentof theGameTagproject’sconservationand researchobjectives.Ifyouseeatag,please makeeveryefforttoretrieveitbeforereleasing thefish.Thetagmaypulloutorbetterstillcutit inhalfwithaknifetoleavesomeofthetaginthefishandtherestwithyou.Bothpartshave thetagnumberonthem.ThefifthstripedmarlinrecapturewasnotfromNewZealand.Itwas taggedoffPortMcQuarie,AustraliainDecember2022andrecapturedoffHokiangainApril 2023.The105kgfishhadtravelledaminimumdistanceof1028nauticalmilesin113days. ThisisonlythesecondstripedmarlintaggedinAustralianwaterstoberecapturedhereinthe 50yearstheAustraliangamefishtaggingprogrammehasbeenoperating.
Abroadbillswordfishestimatedtobe65kgwastaggedoffWhangaroaon12March2022from thevesselGo
Deep.ThisfishwasrecapturedbetweenWhiteIslandandCapeRunawayon6March2023. Therefore,thetaghadbeenattachedforalmostayear(359days)anditwascaughtabout230 nauticalmilessoutheastfromwhereitwasreleased.
AbluemarlinwasrecapturedwithanAustraliangamefishtagbyRustlernortheastofthe AldermanIslandson
16March2023.Itwasestimatedtoweigh140kgandwasretaggedandreleased.Thisis notableasitisthe
firsttaggedbluemarlinrecapturedandreportedinNewZealandwaters.Thisfishwastagged fromSteveCampbell’sBlueMarlinMagicoffVaua’uon20July2018.Itwasestimatedtobe80 kgandwasreleasedingoodcondition.Therefore,thetaghadbeenattachedfor4yearsand 8months(1700days)withthefishtravelling1096nauticalmilessouth-westbeforerecapture.
AsouthernbluefintunataggedoffCoorabie,GreatAustralianBightinDecember2005was recapturedbyarecreationalfisherontheHokitikaTrenchin2023,17andahalfyearslater.It wastaggedbyaresearchvesselwhenitwasjust73cmlong(about8kg)andwas185cmand 100pluskgonrecapture.
AnotherAustraliantaggedsouthernbluefintunawascaughtinNewZealandwaters.It wastaggedoffRechercheBay,SouthernTasmaniaon22May2021,estimatedat15kg,andwas recapturedbyasurfacelonglinevesseloffDunedinon8April2023measuring113cmand estimatedtoweigh30kg.Therefore,ithadbeenatlibertyfor686daysandwas1086nautical miles(straightline)fromwhereitwastagged.
LENGTHRECORDS weneedaclearphotoofthefishontheapprovedmeasure,whichareavailablefor$25.The photomustbeofthewholefishlyingonitssidewiththemouthtouchingtheheadofthemeasure.Wewillneed detailsofwhereitwascaughtandthenameoftheangler.
