Corsairs win dramatic double overtime

East Los Angeles College running back Marquel Booker was racing, looking to score, only to be tackled in the backfield for a loss. That was the scene on fourth down, as Santa Monica College held on to a six-point lead in double overtime to beat East L.A. College 26-20. The Huskies completed two straight passes and had a first down run that set them up with first and goal from the 10-yard line. The Huskies made it all the way to the three-yard line but were called back on a crucial holding penalty, pushing them back to the eight-yard line. This would set up the final play and the Corsairs’ most important stop – thwarting Booker in the backfield. Before the final play of the game, defensive coordinator Steven Garcia pressed upon his team that someone had to make a play. The defense responded with a key stop on fourth down to seal the victory.
