COVID-19 TESTING

COVID-19 testing for CCISD staff and students is available at Lozano Instructional Service Center. Clinic hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Appointments may be scheduled online. Walk-ins are based on availability.

District, principal earn H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards

On April 30, H-E-B announced its Excellence in Education Awards winners. CCISD was named the Large District winner! Dr. Christina Barrera, principal of Moses Menger Elementary School, was named this year’s Principal Elementary winner!

Walker Perkins, W.B. Ray High School social studies teacher, was honored as a finalist in the Leadership Secondary category. Congratulations to Dr. Barrera, Mr. Perkins and all staff, students and families!

Teach for Texas Loan Repayment Assistance Program

The deadline to apply for the 20222023 academic year is May 29, 2023. Complete an application using the Teach for Texas online form

To qualify for participation in this program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Be certified in a critical shortage teaching field, be currently teaching full-time in that field and have taught in that field for at least one year in a Texas public school or be a certified educator currently teaching in a critial shortage community (campus) full-time and have taught in that community (campus) full-time for at least one year.

Critical shortage fields for 20222023:

• Bilingual/English as second language

• Career and Technical Education

• Technology Applications and Computer Science

• English Language Arts and Reading

• Math

• Science

• Special Education

Club Estates Elementary welcomes new principal

Corpus Christi ISD has named Dr. Patricia Mendoza principal of Club Estates Elementary School, effective the 20232024 school year. She most recently served as principal of George Evans Elementary School, whose student body will join the T.G. Allen Elementary School family in August.

Mendoza will take the helm from Principal Kay Bircher, who led the school for 14 years and who recently announced her retirement, effective the end of the 2022-2023 school year.

Mendoza holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Texas A&M University-Kingsville, a master’s degree in professional school counseling from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, and a doctorate in educational leadership, also from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

“We offer Ms. Bircher our grateful thanks for her dedicated service to our district,” said Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez. “Dr. Mendoza has been a strong, empathetic leader throughout this transitional time for the Evans school community. We look forward to her energy and enthusiasm at Club Estates.”

School spirit on display at Draft Day Job Fair

Mary Carroll High School was filled with mascots, pep and team colors on April 29. Campuses decked out their tables, and themselves, in their school colors during the Draft Day Job Fair. We are proud to be #TeamCCISD!

The Board of Trustees recognized several district staff for their work during the April 24 Board Meeting.

• Technology for earning the Consortium for School Network Award.

• March 2023 Above the Line Employee of the Month winners.

• Band, Orchestra and Choir Directors for several UIL Awards.
