Becky, whose Swim Stars programme works with over 6,000 youngsters, mainly in the north of England, said that she was impressed with Plymouth’s commitment to teaching youngsters to swim. “Plymouth is one of the few cities around which makes such a massive effort to teach children to swim. There’s a real passion for it in the city - the Life Centre’s facilities are simply outstanding,” she said. Thousands of primary schoolchildren from Plymouth and further afield take part in organised swimming lessons at the Life Centre every year. They take part in a three week intensive programme of lessons designed to teach them to swim at least 25 metres. Every child taking part receives five free family swims and discounts are also offered on lessons.
