HEALTH MATTERS Dr Phil Jinks and Charlotte Thompson of Armada Dental
New service at Armada Aesthetics is something to smile about Armada Dental Practice in Plymouth is offering a brand new service, with the launch in June of facial aesthetic treatments. Dr Phil Jinks, head of the practice in Greenbank Avenue, St Judes, says Armada Aesthetics complements the work they’ve been doing for many years in enhancing people’s natural smiles and that they’re ideally equipped in terms of specialist skills and the surgery’s facilities to offer the treatment. “It’s a natural progression for the surgery, which has offered high quality dental treatment since the mid-1970s,” he said. “We’ve seen big changes in what people expect and this adds to what we can offer to patients. “This sort of treatment is increasingly popular with both men and women and to us it makes sense for them to seek this treatment from specialists in a clinical environment.” The new service, which is also available to people who aren’t registered with Armada Dental, follows the arrival of facial aesthetic practitioner Charlotte Thompson. Charlotte is highly experienced in delivering facial aesthetics treatments, previously providing this treatment daily at her last dental practice in Essex. She’ll be offering muscle relaxing treatments to reduce wrinkles and lines around the eyes and forehead, and dermal filling treatment to add volume around the lips: “Dental professionals have an extensive knowledge of facial anatomy,” said Charlotte. “Our training focuses on the muscle, nerve and blood supply to the head and neck. We feel as health professionals our training places us in an ideal position to treat this area. “In addition, we adhere to a strict cross infection control policy and are registered with the Care Quality Commission. All the products we use are sourced from reputable pharmacists.” The first step for those who are considering the enhancement is to book a free, no obligation consultation. The session takes around 30 minutes and the process includes an assessment from Dr Jinks, for added reassurance. Each case is viewed individually and, in line with General Medical Council recommendations, no treatment is performed on the day. Instead, patients are given time to

go away and think about it. “People tell us their concerns and we give them all the options available to them,” said Charlotte. “And if someone isn’t suitable for the treatment, such as pregnant women for example, we’ll tell them.” Treatment costs start at £200. Depending on the type and extent of the work, patients can expect facial aesthetic treatment to take at least half an hour and possibly quite a bit longer: “People say it’s far less painful and stressful than dental treatment though,” said Charlotte. She added: “We go for a natural, subtle enhancement, but patients will really notice a difference. One of the frequent comments I get is that people feel refreshed. I have it done myself and I love it – I don’t look as tired. “A schoolteacher friend of mine, who had some lines removed in the area just above and between her eyes, said her pupils told her she no longer looked angry all the time because she wasn’t frowning!” After each treatment, a review takes place two weeks later: “It’s a very thorough process,” said Charlotte. “If any fine-tuning is required, we can do this following the review.” None of the facial aesthetic treatments are permanent; the enhancement around the eyes lasts for around three months, the dermal filling approximately 10 months: “It’s good that it’s not permanent,” said Charlotte. “It means that if you decide it’s not for you, then it doesn’t need to be.” Dr Jinks says clients will receive the same high standard of care as the practice’s dental patients: “We pride ourselves on providing the best dental treatment and we want to extend that sort of quality to our facial aesthetic service. All advice given is in the best interests of the patient and we work in accordance with all the strict guidelines.” Ring the main surgery reception to book a free consultation. Practice opening hours are 9am to 7pm on Mondays to accommodate people after work, 9am to 5.30pm Tuesday to Thursday, and 9am to 3pm on Fridays.
