SCAD May 2023
Spirited color, innovative sustainability, and exacting detail are unlikely elements to find combined in just one design. My work is able to fuse them because I as a person am a fusion.
My passion has been the leading thing driving me through life. My passion started to emerge when I was a young girl playing national-level ice hockey. Every day I practiced precision, driving myself to be the best. By my teen years, I realized my creative brain was hungry. I immersed myself in theater, finding costume and set design as rewarding as acting itself. When that wasn’t enough to satisfy me, I chose to take leadership positions in the theater. It hoped to inspire others to pursue their passion just as I did. I drove myself to prepare for college auditions, constantly looking for ways to better myself. This was when I signed up for an interior design camp, changing my life forever.
I never realized that the entire mood of a space could change based on a few decisions. I began to wonder if that was why I found it so hard to focus in some environments. Was there a way to design a space where everyone could be content and productive? I fell in love with how I could fuse my creativity, attention to detail, and deep desire to help others into a space that could touch a person’s mind.
At SCAD, I have broadened to see the wide range of ways I can help people through design. I want to allow people to work more efficiently, with better focus, and at their happiest in spaces created to help. I want to promote diversity, designing spaces that welcome everyone. I hope to continue to show the passion that I feel deep within every design I create. Most importantly, I long to emphasize sustainability and use design to help- in small and large ways- make the planet healthier.
My passion is to create work that fuses color, function, sustainability, and joy. I hope you enjoy the designs that passion has created.

[ Project Description ]
Studies show children with and without special education needs (SEN) prosper when students with developmental disorders are integrated into general education, schools must be designed inclusively based on the need of children with learning disabilities to foster their social and academic skills.
Schools today are not designed to cater to every student who walks in. This capstone looks to the future of inclusive education, using the Montessori theory and biophilia to create a healthy learning environment for all K-5th grade students. While made for a school in Anna, Ohio this idea will transform the educational industry. This project looks to the beginning of civilization in the Fertile Crescent as its design inspiration.
[ Learn through PLAY ]
The Activity Zone gives kids a chance to learn through play using higher energy zones, dramatic roleplay, and independent exploration of new concepts. This area tunes fine motor skills, promotes creativity, recreates social interactions, and more. All these are critical skills needed for kids to grow up productive and happy.

Mesopotamia, one of the first agricultural communities, relied on the Fertile Crescent to thrive. This educational space will derive from the Fertile Crescent by creating an environment that allows every child to grow and be nurtured.
Agriculture and starting settlements inform how educational design can mix nature and humanity to allow children to blossom in their environment. Dynamic, natural patterns mix with the geometric shapes we sow. Community spaces would be put towards the center to emphasize the kinship these people would create with one another.
Plants, much like students, are unique in their needs for what they need to develop. Looking at the beginning of agriculture, this design seeks to support students through different learning environments. Natural colors and textures will be layered to create a biophilic environment that emphasizes such growth.
Within an atrium space, this Activity Zone will be created with two rivers directing kids to learn more.
Allows for exploration and for kids to find their nook that they feel comfortable relaxing and reading in.

The reflections of the sunrise on the waves crashing onto Virginia Beach guide the playful design of the Moxy Hotel. The majority of the rooms at the Moxy face the eastern sun as it cascades over the tide and into their rooms. Focusing on the dynamic, pulsating light from the consistently moving waves, the interior architectural elements convey the intermingling of light and movement in the space. Bold colors and organic lines will be utilized throughout the space.
The bar check-in is the main architectural feature of the space, drawing the guests’ eyes immediately.
The transaction counter allows for anyone of all abilities to order. It will be placed towards the center of the design.
Ease of mobility and access is the main priority of this suite.
The ADA Guest Suite is inspired by the darkness just before sunrise.
Open pathways and proximity of spaces allow for ease of movement around the ADA Guest Suite.
The main feature is a customized headboard with dimmable LED panels. The wave-shaped LEDs shine light up at the ceiling design which resembles the lapping waves on the beach.
Good Morning, Sunshine is a coffee bar that looks to the transition from sunrise to day for its design.
The design of the floor, counter, and choice of acoustic panels portray lights’ interaction with waves on Virginia Beach. Sustainable methods are used throughout the design. Sustainable and local materials are employed in the floor, counter, and wall designs. Daylighting methods are also utilized.
Games such as pool, darts, Mario Kart, and shuffleboard are employed in the lobby to create an interactive environment that permits Moxy’s Fun Hunters to play. The lobby creates a social space that promotes relaxation. Curves, bold colors, and the movement of light all look to the sunrise on the waves.

[ Project Description ]
The Sentir (Smell) pop-up is a part of the Blooming Inquisition project that aims to create the experience of Lacoste in a conceptual pop-up event using the five senses.
The Sentir (Smell) pod utilizes all five senses to create redolent experiences to invoke forgotten memories and create conversation. This experience is broken up into multiple areas to allow for groups of scents to be encountered separately. Each sense heightens the fragrances and allows people to invoke subconscious thoughts. Each unnamed smell beckons guests to write their memories down so others can experience different concepts behind the same scent.
The corridors of the Sentir pod cleanse the palette between each new set of fragrances. Fog shrouds the pods from full view. Memories written on cards from previous guests hang from the ceiling to start conversation.
[ A Breath of CLEANSING AIR]
Fragrances paint pictures in the mind, stirring images long forgotten. Focusing on the way people physicalize smell through memory, this design looks to capture Lacoste through its smells and tell it through all five senses. This pod asks people to block out everything and intake the redolent inflorescence.
Each scent uses different lines and shapes to evoke vivid images in the user’s mind. The various odors found throughout Lacoste will determine the textures and colors. Spotlight lighting recreates the effect of a distinct memory. The inflorescence informs a radial design with separated pods. Different interactive elements assist unrevealed scents in bringing forth memories.

Summer Rayne Oakes’ Vacation House
[ Skills Used ] Photoshop, Sketchup, InDesign, Illustrator, Hand Rendering
[ Materials ] Pen, Markers, Colored Pencils
This vacation house in the marshes of Florida finds inspiration in the adaptive nature of Peperomia plants. The space merges the outdoors with the indoors, creating a design that promotes the preservation of the natural world. Biophilic design and sustainable thinking originate a space that speaks to the nature outside and the people inside.
The goal of the vacation home is to meet the needs and interests of Summer Rayne Oakes while creating an intimate space for friends and family. The space can adapt to the needs of the family, just like the Peperomia plant can adapt to the environment around it.
Summer Rayne Oakes, 36, is an author, entrepreneur, and the world’s first eco-model. Summer Rayne Oakes got her degree in environmental science and entomology at Cornell University. She is an environmental activist and an eco-model; a model who only promotes clothes made from organic and recycled materials. Oakes made Le Souk which connects fashion designers to environmentally friendly fabric producers. She has written multiple books and makes YouTube videos that promote a healthy and plant-filled lifestyle.
The house is far from the nearest city, isolated in a marshy area that is fairly quiet. This area is perfect for Oakes to concentrate on her writing and online presence away from the busy city.
The concept behind Summer Rayne Oakes’ vacation home is based on Oakes’ favorite genus of plant, Peperomia, and sustainable practices that Oakes uses in her everyday life. Oakes wants a home that feels alive and where she can muse about nature. Peperomias are found in harsh conditions but can be grown almost anywhere. Certain peperomia can go without water for 70 days yet plump up an hour after watering. Oakes believes, like Peperomia, we must adapt and advance to save the planet we live on. Oakes’ vacation home will behave like a Peperomia, adapting to different functions, new sustainable methods, and to the area surrounding it.

Loish Workspace
[ Year ] 2021
[ Skills Used ] Modeling, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator
[ Materials Used ] Acrylic, Holographic Vinyl, String
This workspace found in Savannah, GA asks the guest to dance in its fantasy and mystery. The digital artist Loish’s art informs the design of the conceptual workspace and retail space. This space welcomes patrons to come and explore the alluring spaces within.
Loish’s artwork informs the layout, directionality, and user experience of the space. Utilizing a grid system, a two-floor space was created to reflect Loish. The curving nature of the art clashes with the strict lines used on the grid. The warping and reflection of light calls for people to join Loish’s dance.
Multiple organizational and spatial models were tested to understand the relationship between Loish’s artwork and space. In the end, the linear, centralized, and radial grids matched the central and alluring nature of Loish’s art.
The stairs bring the viewer directly into the center, allowing them to look out the many windows. The glass floor allows for emphasis to remain on the center.
The centralized space is hidden from view, with a corridor that opens up into it. This central area is meant to draw visitors in, bringing them further into the space.
The initial model was created with the idea to lure in guests, just like Loish’s artwork. The model is linear with emphasis on the mystery from one floor to another.
The mystery of the space is kept as users enter through a small corridor. Holographic vinyl is used to manipulate light and color throughout the space.
[ Back Face ]
Centralized spaces lead to other smaller spaces where Loish’s artwork is sold.
Circular cutouts allow light to flow into the space in interesting shapes.
Partitions of string and dowels play with shadows.
The acrylic exterior is not transparent, yet allows guests to see a bit inside.
Small spaces have different light conditions, allowing for the user to choose. Seating is created using the blue marbles.
