1 in 5 children is unsure where their next meal will come from.
U.S. Department of Agriculture
I am humbled and inspired by the significant strides we have taken together in the fight against child hunger. Thanks to your unwavering support and dedication, we achieved our ambitious goal of providing over 20 million meals to children and families grappling with food insecurity in 2023.
Child hunger is a complex issue, but it is not insurmountable. It requires continuous collaboration among individuals, corporations, charitable organizations, and governments, all united in the common goal of ensuring access to healthy and affordable food for every family.
CoreGiving is playing an increasing role in the campaign to end child hunger. Through the growth of our community of supporters and strategic partnerships with hunger-relief organizations nationwide, we are making tangible strides in addressing this critical issue.
In 2023, American Campus Communities and Preferred Apartment Communities joined us as leadership partners, standing alongside nine other Blackstone Real Estate portfolio companies in our mission. Our donor community experienced tremendous growth, with hundreds of portfolio company employees participating in our annual Bracket Battle fundraiser for the first time. Notably, Beam Living and Preferred Apartment Communities rallied support for our cause among their residents, while nearly 200 corporations joined forces with us to alleviate child hunger in our shared communities.
As our community of donors and volunteers grew, so did our geographic reach and collaboration with local food banks and hunger-relief organizations. In 2023, we granted over $4 million to 76 charity partners spanning 25 states. Additionally, we mobilized more than 2,400 volunteers in over 60 cities nationwide through our third annual CoreGiving Day, providing vital support to neighbors in need.
Our charity partners rely on our philanthropy and volunteerism to address the ever-growing needs of our communities. According to City Harvest, the number of children visiting food pantries in New York City has increased by nearly 70% compared to 2019. This common trend highlights the urgency of our collective efforts. For millions of struggling families, food assistance from our charity partners is a lifeline, offering hope and nourishment during challenging times. Thank you for being part of our growing community and for generously donating your time and resources to help millions of children and families access the food and nutrition they need to thrive.
With deepest appreciation,
Bridget O’Connell Executive Director, CoreGivingEveryone needs nutritious food to thrive. But sadly, more than 44 million people — including over 13 million children — face hunger in the United States. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, food insecurity increased significantly in 2008, dipped below pre-recession levels for the first time in 2019, and soared in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
While inflation decreased in 2023, food prices remained painfully high. As millions of families continued to make tough decisions about which bills to pay, nutritious food such as fresh produce and meat were often out of reach.
April Housing residents have access to affordable rent. However, they still face challenging decisions on how to allocate their discretionary funds. Often, low-income families must choose between essentials like books, medicine, and food, highlighting the pressing issue of food insecurity.
Alice Carr, CEO of April HousingHunger touches every community in the U.S. and children are particularly vulnerable to its immediate and long-term effects. Extensive research has established connections between early childhood exposure to food insecurity and a range of poor health outcomes, impaired brain development, diminished academic performance, and heightened levels of anxiety.
CoreGiving is dedicated to combating child hunger and approaches its mission with the understanding that children can only be shielded from the anxiety and negative impacts of hunger when their whole families have enough food to lead active, healthy lives.
Growing up, food insecurity was a daily occurrence in my home. Not having a proper meal has detrimental effects on so many areas of your life. When you are younger, you don’t think as much about the why’s and how’s of the struggles your family is facing. You feel isolated and ashamed of not having the same thing as your peers. There is so much stigma to not having a proper meal, so you aren’t vocal about it. As you grow older and wiser, you learn that there are ways to give back and you see a broader picture of how many people are affected by the lack of proper nutrition. I am proud to do my part to support CoreGiving’s efforts and eliminate the shame and stigma of not having access to food.
Kelly Cuevas, Link LogisticsCoreGiving began as a single company’s employee giving program, with colleagues at ShopCore Properties partnering with the San Diego Food Bank to combat hunger. Over time, CoreGiving evolved into a 501(c)(3) public charity, harnessing the collective power of multiple companies to amplify our reach and impact.

Our impact
CoreGiving’s community of supporters is rooted in the real estate industry, underscoring our commitment to fostering healthy and resilient communities where every family has access to nutritious food and the opportunity to thrive.
We focus our efforts on communities where the customers and employees of our Blackstone Real Estate portfolio company partners reside, often establishing charitable partnerships based on recommendations from local supporters.
Our portfolio company partners generously cover our operating expenses so that 100% of donations from others directly funds meals through our charity partners.
Local food banks and hunger-relief organizations utilize our grants to support various initiatives, including after-school meal programs, weekend meal bags, in-school and mobile pantries, summer meal programs, and food distributions through their partner agencies.
Strategic partnerships with these organizations maximize the reach and impact of our philanthropic efforts.
It is inspiring to see such a coalition of support rallying around this cause. Our partnership with CoreGiving is an essential piece of the emergency food system here in Chicago, and we were thrilled to honor CoreGiving as our institutional partner of the year!
Kellie O’Connell, CEO of Nourishing Hope Blackstone Real Estate Portfolio Company PartnersIn 2023, CoreGiving established a presence in eight new markets, broadening our national reach and deepening our impact within local communities. Among our 76 charity partners, 22 have received annual funding since 2020, demonstrating our growth and commitment to supporting children and families in our communities.

By strengthening partnerships with food banks and hunger-relief organizations in 2023, we tailored our funding to address specific needs, engaged our community members in new ways, and remained steadfast in supporting communities during times of crisis.
Complementing school meal programs, Utah Food Bank’s Mobile School Pantry program provides a convenient, safe, and trusted food distribution point for children and their families at the end of the school day. CoreGiving proudly sponsored monthly distributions at Douglas T. Orchard Elementary School, Mount Mahogany Elementary School, and Timpanogos Elementary School.
Together with Utah Food Bank, we aided over 7,800 family members, including 4,300 children, throughout the first half of the 2023-2024 academic year. We remain committed to funding this vital program year-round.
For low-income families, the holiday season brings increased financial pressure and a stark reminder of their food insecurity challenges. The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank partners annually with a local organization to host a festive drive-through distribution to help families stock up on food essentials for the season and even toys for the children. The food bank also made a special delivery of meal boxes to residents of April Housing’s Casa Figueroa property. April Housing team members complemented the meal boxes with cheerfully wrapped presents for each child, ensuring no family was without the season’s comfort.
The Atlanta Community Food Bank’s mission is to fight hunger by engaging, educating, and empowering its community. Its education and outreach team educates minds and inspires change through a hunger 101 curriculum, youth programs, and workshops. Through the food bank’s innovative, online hunger simulation, members of Blackstone’s Analyst Accelerator program confronted challenges faced by food-insecure individuals and were inspired to act. “The simulation made it much easier to understand the concept of food insecurity and the impact it has on other people’s lives,” noted one participated. Another exclaimed, “I will be signing up for CoreGiving Day!”
Since 2020, CoreGiving has supported the Maui Food Bank and its affiliate, the Hawaii Foodbank. In August 2023, when devastating wildfires ravaged Lahaina and parts of Kula, the compassion and generosity of our donor community truly shone through. Utilizing the funds we provided, the Maui Food Bank bolstered its extensive food distribution efforts, including the provision of meal bags for local children facing longer bus rides to school after their families were displaced by the fires. Given our longstanding partnership with the food bank, we remain committed to supporting ongoing recovery initiatives for families grappling with hunger both before and after the wildfires.
CoreGiving Day saw notable growth, expanding into four new states and 24 additional cities, with an 11% increase in volunteer participation over the prior year.
More than 2,400 employees from Blackstone and 16 of its real estate portfolio companies donated their time to support our charity partners in over 60 cities, making more than 800,000 meals accessible for neighbors in need.

Kristina Sanchez, Link LogisticsAs a mother of two children, making sure kids have enough to eat hits close to home. I love being able to help, knowing I’m helping kids get the food they need to thrive!
Tricia McReynolds, April HousingOur Blackstone Real Estate portfolio company partners rallied widespread support for our mission, generating enthusiasm among employees, friends and families, customers, and business partners alike.
This remarkable expansion of our donor community enabled us to achieve our ambitious goal of raising more than $4 million to provide more than 20 million meals for children and families in need.
Nearly 1,700 portfolio company employees engaged in our 6th Annual Bracket Battle fundraiser, culminating in a thrilling victory for April Housing’s team, which achieved an impressive 99% participation rate. A commitment made by Paul Hernacki, chief technology officer, to personally sponsor a food truck for April Housing residents in Canton, Georgia, was a motivating factor that helped propel his colleagues to victory.
During its 2nd Annual Play FORE! A Cause golf and social outing in support of CoreGiving, LivCor welcomed representatives from over 70 companies, including ATI Restoration — one of our valued “Hunger Heroes.”
Sharing Link Logistics’ commitment to bettering their communities, CBRE held its third annual employee giving campaign in support of CoreGiving. CBRE Cares, CBRE Industrial & Logistics, and Capital Markets line of business triple matched employees’ donations, enabling us to fund over 500,000 nutritious meals for children and families residing in communities served by both companies.
CBRE is honored to have the opportunity to join Link Logistics in supporting CoreGiving. We are grateful for the partnership we share with Link, and we are tremendously inspired by their relentless determination to alleviate food insecurity.
John Morris, President of CBRE, Americas Industrial & LogisticsOver 300 New Yorkers donned their running shoes to support CoreGiving through the inaugural StuyTown Turkey Trot. Sponsored by Beam Living, this familyfriendly event united neighbors in a fun activity, all while extending crucial support to local children and families.
Employees and residents of Preferred Apartment Communities actively supported CoreGiving through their “PAC Gives Back” program. Engaging in spirited, property-level activities, they raised critical funds to combat food insecurity in their local communities.
Numerous individuals donated to CoreGiving on a recurring basis, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to helping children and families access healthy food during times of need.
I support CoreGiving because I’m one generation removed from having enough food for all the children in a household. My parents were able to eat but food was very limited and scarce.
Tonica Griffin, Revantage Monthly DonorCoreGiving’s donor community grew by 135% in 2023. Thanks to the commitment and generosity of the individuals and organizations named herein, we made significant strides in the fight against child hunger.

CoreGiving’s incredible community of partners, donors and volunteers truly drives our progress. We are so grateful to unite around this humbling work as we help children grow and flourish through access to food and nutrition. Thank you for all you do as we continue to advance our mission together.
Luke Petherbridge Co-founder & Board Chair, CoreGiving CEO, Link LogisticsAfter four years of rapid growth, the upcoming year marks a strategic phase of deliberate expansion. While maintaining our current fundraising target, we are committed to fostering deeper relationships with our generous donor community, forging new corporate partnerships, increasing volunteer engagement in our mission, and continually raising awareness about the urgent issue of child hunger.
