2022 CoreGiving Impact Report

Dear friends and supporters,

After joining CoreGiving in August as its first fulltime Executive Director, I am honored to share the important work we achieved together in 2022.

As the economic effects of COVID-19 lingered and the cost of everyday necessities soared, our community of supporters expanded, and our impact multiplied.

With generous support from our corporate partners, their employees, Blackstone and others, we surpassed our goal and raised more than $3.2 million to fund more than 16 million meals for children and families. Our network also grew: April Housing joined CoreGiving as a corporate partner, uniting with nine other Blackstone Real Estate portfolio companies to advance our mission of eliminating child hunger in the United States.

CoreGiving’s growth has occurred at a critical time, as food banks across the country have been operating well above pre-pandemic levels to meet increased demand. Inflation has led many families to turn to food banks for the first time to make ends meet. “Inflation has taken a big toll on my budget,” a young father told our partners at Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. “Receiving food helps me stretch my income to cover other bills that I wouldn’t be able to afford otherwise.”

Inflation and ongoing supply chain issues have also posed challenges for food banks. With fewer donations of quality food, our partners have had to purchase more food at significantly higher prices to meet their communities’ needs.

By raising awareness about child hunger, inspiring our network to donate heartily, and mobilizing more than 2,100 volunteers through our second annual CoreGiving Day, we have served as a strong partner to 67 food banks and hunger-relief organizations. Together, we provided much-needed relief and nourishment for children and families across the U.S.

Mission

More than nine million children live in food-insecure households, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. These children and their families lack consistent access to enough food to live active, healthy lives. The effects of food insecurity are wide-ranging, from the painful feeling of hunger to serious implications for children’s physical and mental health, academic achievement and future economic prosperity.

CoreGiving is dedicated to eliminating child hunger by providing nourishing meals to children and families through partnerships with food banks and other hunger-relief organizations across the United States.

CoreGiving’s 10 corporate partners collectively own thousands of properties across the United States. They are committed to creating economic growth and prosperity in the neighborhoods where their customers and employees live—and it starts with nourishing children and families so all can thrive.

Corporate partners cover CoreGiving’s operating expenses so that every dollar donated by others is used to provide meals through CoreGiving’s partnerships with food banks and other hunger-relief organizations.

Impact stories

CoreGiving’s nonprofit partners rely on our donations to enable children and families to readily access healthy food when needed. These stories reflect a few of the many ways CoreGiving’s partners use our funds to address food insecurity in their local communities.

Central Texas Food Bank

Mobile Food Pantries and Distribution Partnerships

Serving 21 counties across a vast geographic area, Central Texas Food Bank partnered with 300 local agencies and operated mobile food pantries to reach more than 60,000 residents weekly. These programs removed logistical barriers and increased families’ access to healthy food, enabling the food bank to distribute nearly 46 million meals to Central Texans.

Alameda County Community Food Bank Centering Equity from Farm to Food Bank

Like many food banks, the Alameda County Community Food Bank purchases millions of dollars’ worth of food to distribute each year. In 2020, none of its 20 million pounds of produce sourced from the area came from farms owned by people of color. Reflecting its commitment to operationalizing equity in its day-to-day work, the food bank went from purchasing 0% to 81% of its produce from Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) owned farms in California by 2022. In doing so, the food bank also provided more culturally relevant foods to its diverse community.

Harry Chapin Food Bank Disaster Relief

When Hurricane Ian devastated Fort Myers, Florida, and surrounding areas, Harry Chapin Food Bank experienced a sharp increase in demand. Food distributions rose 74%, from 70,000 meals per day in September to 121,500 meals per day in October.

Parents like Angela and Rene lost their jobs. Without their primary sources of income, they struggled to make ends meet and provide food for their growing children. They turned to the food bank, where they received fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and a variety of shelf-stable foods. The food bank and its partner agencies are now serving many other families who never had to wonder where their next meal was coming from until Hurricane Ian hit.

Ninety-five thousand children in Northern Illinois Food Bank’s service area face food insecurity. In collaboration with local schools, the food bank distributed 1,800 goodsfilled backpacks per week to ensure that students and their siblings had access to healthy food each weekend.

Second annual CoreGiving Day

CoreGiving Day was a tremendous success—doubling in size and impact over last year. More than 2,100 employees from Blackstone and 14 of its real estate portfolio companies united behind our mission to end child hunger.

Volunteers dedicated more than 17,000 service hours and provided over 650,000 meals to children and families in 40 cities across the U.S.

2022 marked another incredible year of growth for CoreGiving, a keep the momentum going. In 2023, we will develop our first mult and set the course for sustainable growth and impact. We will also continue to engage our generous community of supporters and inspire others to join our mission to end child hunger.
