The Task

The client was transitioning from a traditional, operations-focused HR Director model to a People & Culture-led approach, emphasising international luxury standards while aligning with the unique Kenyan context through a strategic and people-first mindset.

A Kenyan national was strongly preferred for the role.

The ideal candidate required extensive experience within Africa, ideally including Kenya, complemented by international exposure beyond the continent.

The client sought a senior leader with Director-level experience in luxury hotels or resorts, ideally within internationally branded hospitality groups. The position was time-sensitive, having remained vacant for several months.

The remote location presented an additional challenge, as it was not suited to family relocation or accompanied status.

Given the highly specific requirements for the role, we began by identifying suitable candidates from international luxury brands across our COREcruitment platforms and conducted a targeted global headhunting campaign, with particular emphasis on African location experience.

Leveraging our extensive global reach and an internal database of over 560,000 candidates, including 80,000 based in Africa and the Middle East, we proactively conducted the search for an exceptional Kenyan national This produced a strong pipeline of high-quality profiles, sourced from our database, industry referrals, and broad professional networks. We were able to swiftly develop a strong longlist of potential talent.

After a thorough evaluation, we identified and shortlisted the 20 top candidates

Step 2 COREcruitment’s approach

With our comprehensive shortlist in place, we commenced detailed screening interviews with each candidate. Thorough conversations with the candidate on their experience, background, where they want to go next, what’s important to them in terms of job, company, etc.

Before presenting any role to candidates, we take the time to understand them to ensure it’s the right fit for them.

Step 3

After building a comprehensive understanding of both sides, we introduced 9 shortlisted candidates to the company and outlined the finer details of the role, including discussing job responsibilities, growth potential, team structure, company culture, leadership style, and available benefits. We facilitated all interviews, whether virtually or in person.

The Result

We are pleased to report that we secured an exceptional Kenyan national, who was excited to return home to join this leading luxury hospitality brand.

The successful candidate was identified and submitted within two weeks of the briefing, successfully completing multiple interview stages including with global executive teams.
