February 13, 2014 RE: Session Facilitation at the 2nd Annual First Nations LNG Summit On behalf of Treaty 8 Tribal Association, I would like to extend our great appreciation and support for your participation at the upcoming First Nations LNG Summit. As you prepare for your session, we are providing you with a briefing on the vision and logistics of the Summit. The theme of the Summit will build on Treaty 8 Tribal Association’s First Nations LNG Strategy vision statement: “To enable the meaningful engagement and participation of impacted First Nation communities within British Columbia’s natural gas and LNG sectors.” Our goal for the Summit is to enable participants to return to their communities with new tools and ideas to engage in and respond to LNG development. We would like to encourage group participation through storytelling, sharing, and conversation amongst all of the participants in your session. As a facilitator of a breakout session, you play a critical role in this discussion. Some broad guidelines are outlined below: • As a session facilitator, we ask that you please try to engage the entire audience in the discussion, rather than provide a full-‐length presentation. • As much as possible, please focus on the general topic of First Nations participation within the natural resource sector, as opposed to a specific development or project. • For several sessions, we have asked various people to co-‐present – please see the attached agenda for the latest information on confirmed speakers. If you are in one of these sessions, you will receive an email shortly to introduce you to your co-‐presenter(s). • Several of the sessions will be organized as panels with a moderator. The moderator is expected to communicate the intended format with the presenters and discuss any questions prior to the session. Each panel member will have approximately 5-‐8 minutes to introduce themselves and their background to the participants.
