Nine students inducted into Phi Theta Kappa at Central Arizona College’s Aravaipa Campus Nine students from Central Arizona College’s Aravaipa Campus were rewarded for their excellence in the classroom on Sept. 18 with induction into Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honor Society of the Two Year Colleges. Phi Theta Kappa recognizes and encourages the academic achievement of two-year college students and provides opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programming. To be eligible for induction, students must compile a 3.5 grade point average. Selected this year for induction were: • Christina Clifford, San Manuel • Jessie Mortensen, San Manuel • Selina Naranjo, Kearny • Desiraee Noriega, Winkelman • Alejandro Romero, Winkelman • Tany Valdez, San Manuel • Lorena Villanueva, San Manuel • Brittnye Vincent, Oracle • Myra Warren, Kearny The Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society was established by Missouri twoyear college presidents in 1918 and serves to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students. The society provides opportunities for individual growth and development through honors, leadership and service programming. Today, Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education with more than two million members and 1,200 chapters located in the United States, U.S. Territories, Canada and Germany. In 1929, the American Association of Community Colleges recognized Phi Theta Kappa as the official honor society for two-year colleges.
