A run with the Danish prime minister Officially the Pride Week activities begin on August 15, but already the day before, on Monday August 14 while we are giving the City Hall Square a rainbow-coloured makeover - you can grab the opportunity to go for a run alongside our prime minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen. The prime minister has invited everyone out for a run around Lyngby Lake (5.5 km.) starting from Marienborg (Nybrovej 410, 2800 Kongens Lyngby) at 5 PM. The jog will finish again at Marienborg around 18:30 and you are welcome to show up and join the run. Do note that it is not possible to change clothes there and there are no parking facilities. WEDNESDAY 16/8 HUMAN RIGHTS PROGRAM
RAINBOW SQUARE 14:00 - 14:45 Infection-free HIV – Well treated HIV does not contaminate (U=U)
In March, leading researchers and other global spokespersons stated that having unmeasurable HIV means that you cannot infect someone with HIV. HIV-Denmark commemorated this milestone by renaming HIV-infected as HIV-positive. In Denmark, the Serum Institute updated the risk assessment from “very low risk” to “no risk of infection”, but the National Board of Health is yet to make a statement. How do we spread the message that HIV is infection-free to the public? In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
14:00 - 14:45 Transgender in Pakistan: documentary photography and dialogue
Join Nadia Horsted Narejo and Alice Minor in a conversation about transgender activism in Pakistan. What are the ethics of reporting about people who are so often misrepresented and disrespected in media and do not have equal access to sharing their stories? How do transgender people in Pakistan experience media representation? Nadia will share her photos from the past five years of involvement with trans communities primarily in Lahore. Nadia is a documentary photographer who focuses on LGBTQ and women’s rights in the global south. Alice is active in queer and trans communities and politics in Denmark and joined Nadia in Pakistan this summer. In English. Steak Royal, Regnbuepladsen 3, 1550 Copenhagen V
14:45 - 15:30 When mainstream meets norm-criticism and intersectionality
Norm criticism and an intersectional perspective offers concrete tools to create real change for minorities and not just (slightly too) easy solutions that in the end only contributes to the majority celebrating its own tolerance while the inequality remains unchallenged and unchanged. In recent years, norm-critical and intersectional perspectives have gained more attention and more people want to work with these perspectives in practice. This is desirable, and for a long time, many people have fought for this. But what happens when popularity takes over, the terms become buzzwords, and the content becomes mainstream? The panel will discuss issues, consequences, and solutions. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
14:45 - 15:30 Circumcision of children, sexual rights, and medical ethics
Fundamental to sexual rights is the right to decide for yourself whether or not to remove parts of your genitals or whether to have performed other forms of genital surgery. This right is taken away from girls and boys who are circumcised for religious or cultural reasons as well as from intersex children operated for societal reasons. Intact Denmark is an association fighting for all children’s rights to bodily integrity and genital autonomy. However, parents’ right to raise their children within a certain culture/religion or in accordance with particular social norms also play a role. What is more important: Parents’ right to have these traditional or standardised operations performed or children’s right to make decisions about their own body? This is the topic for discussion in this debate between Intact Denmark, who wants legislation on the issue, and someone, who does not believe legislation is the right way to go. In Danish. Steak Royal, Regnbuepladsen 3, 1550 Copenhagen V
15:30 - 16:00 Author readings
Join us when selected authors read from their works based on LGBTQ topics. Spend half an hour calmly listening to the authors reading and immerse yourself in the world of literature. In Danish. Steak Royal, Regnbuepladsen 3, 1550 Copenhagen V

Both initiatives aim to increase tolerance and inclusiveness. This debate between Spillerforeningen, LGBT Denmark, and LO will discuss options and challenges for the creation of a more inclusive work and union environment. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
16:30 - 17:15 Challenges in and to the heteronormative relationship
Based on personal experiences, the panel will discuss how the heteronormative relationship (classically romantic, monogamous) challenges and is challenged by different identities and ways of having relationships and families. The debate will be based on the outside world’s reactions, continuous negotiations about children, sex, etc., and the heteronormative relationship as ideal and counterpoint. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
17:15 - 18:00 LGBT+ equality in the workforce
LO and FIU-Equality takes LGBT+ persons’ conditions in the workforce seriously and the organisations have launched a three-year education initiative, which includes norm-critical training of trade union representatives all over Denmark. Participants and teachers share their experiences. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
18:00 - 18:45 The global battle for LGBT rights
Being LGBT is criminalized in 71 states, and at the global level, the situation seems to be deteriorating; President Putin is responsible for stigmatization, discrimination and persecution of LGBT persons in Russia. In Chechnya, gay men are detained and placed in concentration camps, and in the USA, president Trump is rapidly rolling back progressive policies introduced by president Obama. In this debate, national and international experts on LGBT rights will discuss how conservative forces have been able to gain such strong momentum, how we most efficiently fight this trend, and work towards a world where LGBT persons are no longer persecuted, discriminated against and killed. Participants: Representatives from international LGBT organisations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Danish Institute for Human Rights and Sex & Samfund. In English. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
18:45 - 19:30 Grindr and sex culture: Lustful, political, and hateful perspectives
Grindr and other hook-up apps are central to the way LGBTQ+ desire is formed. Based on academic and activist experiences, Kristian Møller, Fahad Saeed, Niels Jansen, and Andrew Shield discuss how desire, racism, and transphobia work online, how apps are part of non-monogamous relationships, and how they interact with local sex cultures. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
19:30 - 20:00 Fear A Queer Planet
Dencker+Schneider give their thoughts on how queerness and the concept of normality has influenced the arts for more than 100 years. Now that Isak and Even are together, marriage is gender neutral, and trans* has been removed from the list of psychiatric diagnoses, you’d think we’d reached a happy ending in the fight for equality and that living as a LGBT+ person in Denmark would be easy. But there are still lots of calls every week when counselling services in LGBT Denmark, LGBT+ Youth and Sabaah are open. Join us and find out what queer persons and the people around them struggle with and why it’s important to have someone to talk to. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
14:00 - 14:45 Human Rights in Pride
Human Rights become more and more important within the Pride movement. Many Prides, big and small, are trying to find ways to include a Human Rights program. Debates, exhibitions and movies are a number of tools to fulfill this objective. Nevertheless, how can we do more than just inform the public? How can we have an impact on the legal or/and social climate regarding LGBTI themes on local as well as international levels? Participants: Frank van Dalen, Liberal International, Michele Irimia-Bernabe, Co-Chair of InterPride’s Human Right and Development Director of NYC Pride. In English. How is sexism expressed in Denmark today, and how can it be understood and fought as a societal issue? Since 2013, the Everyday Sexism Project Denmark has collected approximately 3000 accounts of everyday sexism, and through information and political work, they have helped put focus on the issue. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
16:15 - 16:45 Minority stress
LGBTQ’s experience significantly more discrimination, stigma, and bullying compared to the rest of the population. A lot of them don’t ask for help – because people who identify as part of the LGBTQ community are used to being misunderstood and have given up. Some people are afraid to go to the doctor even if they have a lump in their breast or testicle that should be examined, and other LGBTQ’s don’t get the help they need because time is spent explaining and educating about their “different” lifestyle. These stigmatising experiences are known as “minority stress”, a term psychologist Karina Kehlet Lins will examine in this talk. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
16:45 - 17:45 International debate
Hear how Queer Youth Uganda (QYU) and the Health and Rights Initiative (HRI) work with LGBT Denmark using the LILO method in their work in rural Uganda. 17:45 - 18:30 Pride as battlefield: Where is Denmark?
Denmark has long been known as a pioneering country when it comes to LGBT persons’ rights. But what is really going on with rights in Denmark today? Which issues should be put on the political agenda, and what kind of responsibility does Denmark have in the global fight for LGBT rights? Vice Secretary General for Sex & Samfund, Tania Dethlefsen, raises these questions and facilitates a panel debate with Danish politicians from across the political board. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
18:30 - 19:15 Quality of life in the treatment of HIV
In 20 years, the progress in the treatment of HIV has shifted the perspective from a question of survival to a question of a good life with chronic illness. That’s why we have to think of health in a broader perspective and include more aspects of quality of life. How can we frame quality of life in the health system so that it secures a uniform quality of treatment with focus on equality in health while leaving room for a more comprehensive approach to the individual patient? In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
15:15 - 16:00 Dead gays in Danish literature 1880-1941
Danish literature started describing homosexual characters early. As early as the 1880’s, the first homosexual men and women appeared – both in wellknown and in now forgotten works. Their special talent was dying. This necrophile study focuses on the heteronormativity in Danish literature expressed through a particular “heteronarrativity” in which homosexual characters are introduced, presented, and disposed of in order to move the plot along and obtain the happy heterosexual ending. Prepare yourselves for a stack of literary corpses. Participant: Dag Heede, Lecturer at the University of Southern Den-

FRIDAY 18/8 HUMAN RIGHTS PROGRAM
RAINBOW SQUARE 14:00 - 14:30 PrideRadar
Pride Radar is the flagship report of InterPride showcasing hundreds of Prides around the world. In this workshop Pride Radar will be discussed in depth. While discussing the report and the outcomes we try to answer the question what a global pride movement is and how it needs to develop further. Can we for instance identify key factors for success and how should success be measured? Lastly, the challenges for the future of sustainable Pride movement will be brought to the table. Participants: Frank van Dalen, Liberal International, Michele Irimia-Bernabe, Co-Chair of InterPride’s Human Right and Development Director of NYC Pride. In English. Steak Royal, Regnbuepladsen 3, 1550 Copenhagen V Frank Van Dalen
onary offer you a unique opportunity to change this when we invite you to a workshop in which you’ll help define words that are to be included in The Danish Dictionary. The editors will also discuss how common a word has to be among Danish speakers before it is included in the dictionary, and why some words for different reasons are difficult to describe. Some of the words to be discussed are “heteronormative”, “bear”, and “queer”. In Danish. Steak Royal, Regnbuepladsen 3, 1550 Copenhagen V
15:30 - 16:15 Being out
Being “out” as an LBGTQ person is important to many people, but we all come from different backgrounds, which makes the choice of “coming out” different for everyone depending on context. For example, what does it mean if you’re religious or from a religious family, how “out” you are, and is it important to be out in your work place or among old friends? Do LGBTQ persons bear a responsibility for change to make it easier to be out, or does the responsibility lie with society? This and much more will be discussed in this debate. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
16:15 - 17:00 Trans heroes
There has been a lot of focus on trans persons over the last few years, and especially on the Danish healthcare system’s treatment of these persons. With this presentation, Transpolitisk Forum wishes to broaden the representation of trans persons with stories that include strength and unity. “Trans Heroes” is a reading in English and Danish of different texts written by trans persons who have been and are our heroes, role models, and inspirations. The purpose of the presentation is to share trans experiences and the strength we’ve found in texts written by others. In Danish and English. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
14:00 - 14:45 LGBT Heartaches
We’ve come a long way in terms of rights in Denmark and in many other countries, but there are still way too many gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and trans persons whose hearts hurt. Loneliness, poor mental wellbeing, suicide, as well as substance and alcohol abuse appear to be serious issues that reveal a huge inequality in our society. A large part of the explanation can be found in homophobia and stigmatisation, but self-harm and a hateful, phobic, racist, and exclusive behaviour is something we reproduce in our own communities. With this debate, we’ll try to get to the bottom of this and attempt to place responsibility and most importantly find ways to include more kindness in our communities. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
14:30 - 15:15 Parents of transgender children
Being a parent of a transgender child (of any age) – how do we react and tackle it? Does it matter when we learn about it? How we learn about it? And how we react? At this event, parents talk about and answer question about thoughts such as loss, happiness, perplexity, love, support, doubt, recognition, fear, knowledge, network, acceptance, possibilities for help and much more. In Danish. Steak Royal, Regnbuepladsen 3, 1550 Copenhagen V
14:45 - 15:30 #Sicksystem today
Amnesty and the trans community’s campaign #SygtSystem was only the beginning of a long and difficult fight for transgender persons’ rights in Denmark. Join us when we talk about our perspective on which battles we must fight in the future, and how different organisations can work together to achieve real results for transgender persons in Denmark. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
15:15 - 16:00 Workshop: What should the dictionary say?
Do you find that the language of dictionaries is often too constrictive and single-minded? Copenhagen Pride and two editors from The Danish Dicti12
17:00 - 17:45 Hormone blockers to slow down puberty development
Are hormone blockers dangerous? Why is this treatment not offered as a first choice when it can prevent irreversible harm from an unwanted puberty? FSTB hosts a panel debate on the subject. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
17:45 - 18:30 Consequences of activism
Is the tone in activist debates too harsh? You can easily put your foot in your mouth when talking to or about people from the LGBTQIA community. It can be difficult to get a grip on the different terms, words, and sayings that define LGBTQIA persons and communities. We’ve invited a panel of experienced debaters to talk about how they meet new and less experienced debaters and to discuss how an experienced debater makes sure their knowledge is shared in the best possible way. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
18:30 - 19:15 When the social security number does not fit
Are children and adolescents harmed by legal sex change or? FSTB hosts a debate discussing legal sex change for children and adolescents. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
19:15 - 20:00 Why are some countries progressive in LGBTQ issues and some the opposite?
What does the international development of LGBTQ persons’ situation look like, and why does it move in different directions? What factors influence a society’s treatment of LGBTQ persons and how do Danish NGO’s tackle the different structures, challenges, and possibilities of different societies? Danish AIDS-Foundation LGBT Denmark, Sex & Samfund, and Amnesty International Denmark hosts a debate about what influences the differentiated development and how we can work constructively with the conditions of the societies that we work with. In Danish. Debate tent, Regnbuepladsen, 1550 Copenhagen V
