ON THE COVER Mercy Street follows the lives of two volunteer nurses on opposing sides of the Civil War New England abolitionist Mary Phinney and Confederate supporter Emma Green.
KMOS-TV Wood Building, Room 11 University of Central Missouri Warrensburg, MO 64093
This series, consisting of two six-episode seasons, follows the action in the Green family’s luxury hotel in Alexandria, Virginia, has been transformed into Mansion House, a Union Army hospital tending to the war’s wounded. Inspired by memoirs and letters from real doctors and nurse volunteers at Mansion House Hospital, this drama reveals the stories of those struggling to save lives while managing their own hardships. The series was cancelled before a third season could be produced. This run of the series actually began in late May, but it will continue into August. We hope you enjoy this chance to see an original American drama on PBS.

Member News and Updates Everybody at KMOS-TV knows and appreciates that we could not do our jobs without the support of the community, and this is borne out by the fact that Americans have named Public Broadcasting Stations the nation’s most trusted institution for 15 years running! Trust is the most important measure of our success in fulfilling our essential public service mission. We treat our audience as citizens, not consumers. No other media entity provides the same array of community benefits, including free children’s educational content and services, in-depth news and public affairs programming and vital emergency communications.
Nicole Hume Assistant Director for Strategic Partnerships
These are just some of the reasons why Public Broadcasting Stations continue to engender trust and loyalty despite an explosion of channels, platforms and devices that have presented Americans with more choices at their fingertips than ever before.
At last! We hear the children and teachers saying “summer is here”! May was such a busy month for KMOS-TV with KMOS Kids Writers Contest, the Pinkalicious & Peterrific Art Contest and The Wild Kratts LIVE! performance in Columbia! The Winners of the Writers Contest got to meet Chris and Martin Kratt personally as part of their first prize! This contest was again sponsored by Scholastic and we thank them for their support and help. hume@ucmo.edu

Perry Como Classics: Till the End of Time June 2 at 8 p.m. and June 6 at 7 p.m. For over 50 years, Perry Como ranked as one of America’s most successful and beloved entertainers. A big band singer in the late 1930s, a radio star in the 1940s and then a TV headliner in the 1950s and beyond, Perry was a warm and welcome presence in tens of millions of households for six decades, charting over 100 hit songs along the way. Now, for the first time, a collection of Como’s biggest hits from long-lost and newly-restored episodes from his TV series including rare color programs and more recently discovered footage - is being presented in this special. Hosted by Peter Marshall and Nick Clooney. Hit records such as “It’s Impossible,” “Catch A Falling Star,” “Some Enchanted Evening,” “Magic Moments,” “Round & Round,” “Home For The Holidays,” “And I Love You So,” “No Other Love,” “Hot Diggity” and dozens more made Perry Como the second most popular male singer of the 20th century on the record charts, ahead of Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra and just behind Bing Crosby. Como was a television staple for over 40 years, beginning with his hosting duties in the late 1940s on “The Chesterfield Supper Club” through the early 1990s in series and specials that set the standard for variety programming, winning numerous Emmy Awards and other accolades while drawing devoted viewers around the globe. With warm remembrances from celebrities like Carol Burnett, Regis Philbin, Jay Leno, Kathy Lennon (of The Lennon Sisters), Leonard Maltin, Richard Carpenter, Debby Boone, Steve Tyrell and others, this new special offers a fond look at a talent beloved both on and off the stage and screen. “Till The End Of Time” - #1 (1945) “I Wonder Who’s Kissing Her Now” - #2 (1947) “Some Enchanted Evening” - #1 (1949) “No Other Love” - #1 (1953) “Temptation” - #1 (1945) “Prisoner Of Love” - #1 (1946) “Don’t Let The Stars Get In Your Eyes” - #1 (1952) “Hot Diggity (Dog Ziggity)” - #1 (1956) “Round & Round” - #1 (1957) “Magic Moments” - #4 (1957) “(There’s No Place Like) Home For The Holidays” - #8 (1954) “And I Love You So” - #1 (1973) “Catch A Falling Star” - #1 (1958) “It’s Impossible” - #10 (1970)

Great British Baking Show - Season 5 Fridays at 8 p.m.
The delectable baking competition that has grown into a beloved international phenomenon, returns for a fifth season this summer. Featuring the original cast of Mary Berry, Paul Hollywood, Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc, this season has never before been seen in the U.S. Once again, viewers will meet twelve of Britain’s best amateur bakers who will don their aprons, enter the iconic tent and tackle culinary trials that increase in difficulty as the competition unfolds. Vying to be crowned star baker, challengers prepare three creations in each episode: a signature bake, which tests their creative flair and baking ability; the devilishly difficult technical challenge, in which contestants have to bake creations using only ingredient lists and minimal instruction; and finally the showstopper, designed to fully showcase each baker’s skill and creativity. Contestants face the demanding but endearing judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood, two icons of British baking who are now household names in America. Comedy duo Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc are the series hosts, providing the bakers with much-needed emotional support and comic relief. Offering viewers the perfect sweet summer escape, Season 5 features unforgettable contestants attempting some of the series most difficult challenges, from bagels to strudel, treacle tarts to choux gateaus. Season 5 will be available to stream the morning after broadcast on PBS.org. All four previous seasons of The Great British Baking Show are available via KMOS Passport, a benefit for station members, offering extended access to a rich library of public television programming. All ten episodes will also be available for bingeviewing on KMOS Passport on premiere night, June 22. Throughout the season, fans can visit PBS Food to learn more about the contestants and get exclusive content from the program. Known as The Great British Bake Off in the U.K., the show is produced by the award-winning Love Productions and was created by Anna Beattie and Richard McKerrow. kmos.org
