Tabby-mania A tabby cat is a cat that has a coat featuring distinctive stripes, dots, lines or swirling patterns, usually together with a mark resembling an 'M' on its forehead. There are four tabby patterns that we recognise nowadays: Mackerel, Classic, Spotted, and Ticked. A fifth includes tabby as part of another basic color pattern for example tabby & white. The "Patched" tabby is a calico or tortoiseshell cat with tabby patches. Tabby cats can be of almost any breed.
All tabbies have an 'M' marking on their forehead, and on some this mark is very distinct. The 'M' is often referred to as 'the mark of the true tabby'. When it comes to personality traits, tabbies are considered friendly, happygo-lucky cats, intelligent, sassy, very affectionate and wonderful companions.
