EDITOR’S NOTE As we are well into the UAE summer season, it may seem like only the other day that children came back from their last day of school before the long summer break and we were packing them off on holiday, or booking them in to a summer camp or even pulling our hair out on how else we can keep them occupied and active. Mama Fu’s - A Pan Asian Miracle T his month we found ourselves roaming around one of Dubai’s most bustling shopping malls, Dubai Festival City, and after our shopping adventure, we were craving some good food. Next thing we know, we find ourselves at Pan Asian restaurant Mama Fu’s, located on the mall’s ground floor opposite Robinsons. With a wide façade, the casual dining restaurant features a huge seating area that can easily accommodate a large number of shoppers and diners, without compromising on service. We take a seat close to the restaurant entrance facing the mall’s busy alley, bustling with shoppers and visitors, and take a quick look at the menu spread across appetisers, dim sums, soups, salads, mains and desserts. From appetisers, we order fresh basil spring rolls and Thai dynamite shrimp. Both the appetisers taste fresh and crunchy with perfectly balanced Thai flavours. Next we order Shanghai dumplings, a perfect treat for spice lovers. The filling is generously tempting; the dumplings are served with chilli soya sauce that’s a delicious add on. Next we get the chicken Tom Yum soup, which is that generous a portion, it can easily 28 AUGUST CONNECTOR
be shared between two. The sweet and tangy flavours of coconut milk, Thai chillies and herbs works up the appetite to make you look forward to further Thai delicacies. Moving on to the peanut soy salad with chicken, we are instantly transported to a South Asian country as it reminded us of the local authentic flavours we tried on our trip to Bali and Thailand. The mix of vegetables, wanton chips, peanuts, sesame seeds, crispy teriyaki glazed chicken with peanut soy dressing, work like pure magic. Already mesmerised with a great mix of Asian flavours, our main dish teriyaki chicken was a complete delight. Served with a generous portion of rice on the side, the well-cooked sweet and tangy teriyaki chicken, stir-fried in teriyaki sauce and vegetables, can never disappoint any South Asian cuisine fan. Last but not the least, the surprise unfolds with the dessert of Mama’s Roll Cheesecake, a fried cheesecake. It sounds unusual, but it can easily win a prize for the best dessert in Dubai. It may include sitting an assessment test or submitting score reports from previous schools. It is always good to check with the school’s administration department to secure your last minute spot. What If You Are Unhappy With Your Final Decision? If you think you have made a wrong decision, don’t worry. There is always

a solution to every problem. If you are unhappy with the school, it is advisable to meet your child's class teacher to discuss issues before escalating your concerns right to the top. If you think you are not satisfied with the class teacher’s response, meet with someone more senior, the school principal should be your last resort. However, if as a parent you decide to withdraw your child from the school, you should enquire about the school procedure. Things may differ from school to school , however generally, if children leave within a couple of weeks then parents may only lose the assessment and registration fee if it is later than that then they will probably have to pay the first terms fees but they should be entitled to have the other cheques returned. ince the time I joined HealthBay Polyclinic as a physiotherapist, majority of my outpatient's complaint about pain surrounding the neck area. In my statistics, every 5th outpatient has neck pain. Please find ideas about how to recognize neck pain symptoms and try to follow simple prevention advice.

For those who wish to maintain good neck health I advice physical activities: - Daily muscle auto-stretches - Daily postural exercises with elastic bands for deep neck muscles - Rowing machine training

The doctor will examine eyes, ears, throat, chest, abdomen, and will carry out blood tests to check sugar, cholesterol level or whatever they may think fit for you. If you smoke, the doctor may order a chest x-ray, and if you are worried about a specific condition that runs in the family, such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease or stroke, do not hesitate to discuss and ask your doctor about it. Following Up After Routine Health Check-Up The doctor will follow up with you via phone or via email after the results are out, and may call you in for a consultation and discuss the results with you. Acne is a skin condition that occurs when your hair follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. It often causes whiteheads, blackheads or pimples, and usually appear on the face, forehead, chest, upper back and shoulders. Although stress doesn’t directly cause acne or breakout, it does act as a trigger for the factors that contribute to the development of a breakout. Acne generally should be treated from the inside first as they are majorly caused by hormonal imbalances and malnutrition or by food intolerances. However, there are many over-the-counter (OTC) products available in the market to treat them externally. Nonetheless, it is advisable to visit a dermatologist to know what suits your skin the most. “Several OTC products for treating acne are available to buy but I always recommend getting a skincare specialist to recommend which product/treatment is best for you. If your acne is severe or appears on your chest and back, it may need to be treated with antibiotics or stronger creams that are only available on prescription”, suggests says Dr Lola Ali Muhammad of Euromed Clinic Dubai. “The treatment depends on the type and intensity of acne. The single most important topical medications used to treat acne are retinoids (which we can take over-the-counter) as like adapalene (Differin), tretinoin (Retin-A) to prevent comedone formation. Other topical treatment includes Benzoyl peroxide (BPo), topical antibiotics (clindamycin, erythromycin), alpha-hydroxy acids, salicylic acid, and azelaic acid (which we can take over-the-counter) to treat papular and pustular acne”, advises Dr Majd AlZoughbi, Specialist Dermatologist, Aesthetica Clinic, Dubai. How Can You Look After Your Skin At Home? • Try to resist the temptation to pick or squeeze the spots, as this can lead to permanent scarring. • Clean and hydrate the skin twice a day. Frequent washing can irritate the skin and make symptoms worse. • Dry your face with a cotton towel and apply the right moisturiser. • Wash the affected area with the prescribed skincare cleanser (your skincare specialist can guide you) and lukewarm water. Very hot or cold water can make acne worse. • Avoid using too much make-up and cosmetics and choose water-based products that are described as noncomedogenic. • Wash your hair regularly and try to avoid letting your hair fall across your face. • Tea tree oil can reduce inflammation applied on spots, same as oregano oil. • Crèmes based on zinc also can help reduce inflammation. • Avoid eating food rich in refined carbohydrates, fast food, dairy products and chocolate as these foods worsen acne. "Pore cleaning strips or pads might be tried two times weekly to remove dirt, oil and plugs from pores and avoid picking or squeezing the acne lesions or even touching the face with dirty hands or phones to avoid infection and scarring", suggests Dr Roula Amer of American Hospital Dubai. #connectordubai

Its gentle nature means that it cleans effectively, without irritating the skin with any harsh acidic properties. Open up your pores with warm water then apply pure honey to your skin. Allow it to sit for 30 minutes then rinse off with warm water, then close your pores with a splash of cold water. Oatmeal Mask Oatmeal has wonderful exfoliating properties which can remove dead skin cells that give your skin a flaky texture. Mix 2 teaspoons of oatmeal, 1 teaspoon of baking soda and a few drops of water to create a paste-like texture. Gently rub the paste in circular motions onto your face. As the mask begins to harden, rinse it off with warm water and apply a moisturiser. Apple Cider Vinegar Mask Apple cider vinegar helps to maintain

Combine 1 teaspoon of raw apple cider vinegar with 2 teaspoons of green tea (to soothe) 5 teaspoons of sugar (to exfoliate) and 1 teaspoon of honey. Apply the mask to your face and massage gently. Leave it for 10 minutes then rinse with warm water. Turmeric And Milk Mask Turmeric is a natural antibacterial, as well as a terrific source of antioxidants. Milk is a natural, gentle cleanser that is actually used in a lot of cosmetics. Add 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder to 2 teaspoons of raw milk and stir them into a paste. Apply the paste to your face and leave it for up to 10 minutes before rinsing. Turmeric tends to stain so don’t worry if you’re looking a little yellow, it will come off after another wash! Overall, acne treatments may vary from person to person, but small change in lifestyle can save you from getting ‘spotted’.

The answer is simply because most people are misinformed and believe that FIV cats are a burden. Below are some of the most common misconceptions about FIV. FIV can be transmitted to humans or dogs. 100% WRONG FIV can be transmitted easily to other cats. 100% WRONG, FIV is not easily passed between cats and cannot be spread casually. It is not passed by sharing food and water bowls, sharing litter boxes, grooming each other and play-fighting, small scratches and sneezing. FIV is only transmitted through deep blood-drawing bite wounds FIV means feline AIDS WRONG, being infected with FIV is not the same as having feline AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome). Feline AIDS describes the terminal stages of a disease associated with FIV infection that may not occur for many years and does not always develop in all infected cats. FIV cats don’t live long WRONG, more cats die from FELF and FPV than from FIV. In fact FIV+ cats can live a long happy life without any health problems, just as any other feline provided they are well cared for. Mystique loves nothing more than belly rubs and food. Captain Hook is another misunderstood soul whose life on the streets must come to an end for his own good. He is the sweetest gentle giant with people but does not tolerate competition in the form of other male cats and this is the reason he ended up at the vet covered in scars and old abscesses that have made him stop using his front left paw. Xrays show nothing broken so the vet suspects ligament damage in the wrist which is very painful and can take months before he is better and starts using the leg. Both boys are adorable and would make the best pets, low maintenance and easy going, not the kind to give you grief for being gone all day.
