DIRECTORY - MEET THE TEAM YEARS OF SERVICE
BLUE COURSE MAP SPONSORS
It all started in 1921 from the efforts of Congressmen Oscar E. Bland and O.R. Luhring. While other clubs in the DC area already existed, there were no places where members of Congress could meet socially with businesspeople. The idea of a club specialized for members of Congress was brought to the attention of Herbert Hoover, who served as the Secretary of Congress. With enthusiasm, Hoover agreed to help. Two and a half years of construction was completed on May 23, 1924. News of the club opening its doors for the first time was on the front page of the Washington Post.
Congressional Country Club takes pride in its historic presidential membership. Lifetime Presidential members include Calvin Coolidge, William Howard Taft, Herbert Hoover, Woodrow Wilson and Warren G. Harding. In recent times, Presidents George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama have visited the Club.
Some other early famous members include: John D. Rockefeller, the DuPont’s, Walter Chrysler, William Randolph Hearst, Harvey S. Firestone, James W. Gerard and Mrs. Rockefeller McCormick, to name a few.
The aristocratic clubhouse is a beautiful Spanish Revival building, the biggest clubhouse in North America. It dominates the landscape due to its size, location on the property and position overlooking the start and finish of both golf courses.
During World War II, the club was leased to the government in 1943 and the Office of Strategic Services moved in and trained its men in espionage, sabotage, parachuting and other skills. Following the war the club was returned to its members where it currently remains today. The club today has been transformed from its original purpose and now is a family club with great amenities. Congressional now stands as the number one Platinum Club in America.
The original golf course, designed by Devereux Emmet in 1924, was originally a 18 hole facility. Emmet is famously known for having varied bunker formations on his courses. Originally both nines on the Blue course started with par six’s. Eventually both were converted into par three and par four holes. In the late 1970’s another nine holes was added to the Gold course across Persimmon Tree road, thus making two 18 hole courses on the property.
Congressional is the premier sight of several major championships. Past championships include: three U.S. Opens (1964, 1997 and 2011); a PGA Championship (1976); Senior U.S Open (1995); The Women’s PGA Championship (2022); and the Senior PGA Championship (2025). Over the next 12 years, Congressional is set to host six more championships, most notably, The PGA Championship in 2030 and The Ryder Cup in 2037.

Personal Belongings
You are responsible for your own belongings in the hotel and at our facility. We are not responsible for the replacement of any missing items.

While we encourage everyone to take photos and share them on social media, we ask that you please be respectful with what you post.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
We will provide you with PPE this week.
Driving
ALWAYS drive deliberately and free of distractions. Keep your phone in your pocket. At times, there will be thousands of people on property so please drive safely. DO NOT give rides to anyone who is not part of OUR TEAM.
Cell Phone Usage
Please keep your cell phones on vibrate while working on-course. Be sensible about cell phone usage. If you wish to spectate in between shifts, your phone must be on silent mode.
Keys
ALWAYS remove the key from your equipment, even if you are just stepping away for 10 seconds.
Stake & Rope
Ropes and stakes will line each hole. We will be working in the dark, so the ropes and stakes are hard to see. DO NOT CUT UNDER THE ROPES AT ANY TIME. Orange flagging tape will be used to mark gates in the rope. Please drop the gate and proceed inside the ropes.
Use Your Common Sense
Never Compromise Safety. If you are unsure about a particular assignment or if you encounter a potential hazard, stop and ask a Congressional Team Member promptly.
