2023 ICD-10 CODING UPDATES

HIGHLIGHTS 1,176 NEW CODES!  28 codes revisions to their descriptors  251 deleted  Many of these are external cause codes  Important changes to Dementia (F codes) -69 new codes to identify the stage of severity, and behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD)  Most all additions are to increase specificity as is the case each year  No COVID code changes  Every chapter except 7 and 8, eye and ear, has revisions.  Chapter 12 – skin/subcu (L codes) has only 1 change to an exclude 1 note
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS  Circulatory (I codes) - addition of 43 new codes  Injuries to the head (S00-S09 codes) addition of 86 new codes  Genitourinary system (N00-N99) adds almost 400 new codes for ob-gyn conditions with 168 for endometriosis  Pregnancy, Childbirth (O00-O9A) added 200 new codes  Chapter 19 (S00-T88) adds a new poisoning and adverse effect category for methamphetamines
