The Aviation Centre of Excellence, situated at the Thunder Bay International Airport, is a premier facility offering comprehensive aviation programs with a legacy of over 50 years. This 59,000 square foot facility, is home to both aviation programs.

Aviation Technician students have a mandatory paid summer co-op work placement, enriching students with invaluable industry exposure. Eligible graduates also earn up to 21 months credit towards AME license requirements.

The Fleet: Whether flying with our cutting-edge fleet of 13 Cessna aircraft, our three advanced flight simulators, or working on numerous fixed and rotarywing aircraft for maintenance training, Aviation students get hands-on with aircraft within their first semester.

Apprenticeship Programs There are more than 140 skilled occupations that can be practiced through Ontario's apprenticeship training system. Carpenters, cooks, electricians, millwrights, motive power technicians and welders are all professions that can be defined as "skilled trades," and represent occupations that are integral to the function of the regional and provincial economies.

Apprentices learn a skilled occupation by combining in-school training courses with paid on-the-job training. About 90 percent of apprenticeship training is provided in the workplace by an employer, while the remainder is delivered in a classroom setting at a training delivery agent like Confederation College.

Once registered with Skilled Trades Ontario (STO), the Ministry (MLITSD) will communicate when apprentices are eligible for in-class training (levels 1, 2 or 3). You must be a registered apprentice to receive a seat offer and enroll in apprenticeship level training at Confederation College.

Indigenous Student Services – APIWIN

Located in the heart of the Shuniah building at Confederation College, the Indigenous students lounge aptly named APIWIN, meaning “a place to sit” is a quiet, safe learning space for Indigenous students to gather, study, and participate in cultural-based programs and events.

Indigenous Student Services supports and engages Indigenous students with academic, personal, transitional, social and cultural success. The dedicated Indigenous Student Advisors, Counsellor and Elders help students transition to and through college life by providing support and connections within the college and community, both in-person and virtually.

Indigenous Student Advisors: Our Indigenous Student Advisors (ISA) act as a liaison between each student and their needs.

They help students identify areas of difficulty and develop strategies to improve their academic journey. Our ISAs provide information, direction, and make referrals to other departments in the college and external agencies.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES Confederation College offers a number of scholarships, bursaries and awards to students to assist with their educational costs. These are given out based on financial need, academic achievement or extra-curricular/community involvement. On average, student awards exceed $400,000 each year.

• Entrance awards are available for students entering the first year of their program as a full-time student. These open mid June and close mid September.

• In-program awards are available for students attending full-time.

These are awarded in the winter semester. They open mid October and close in January.

• First Generation and Indigenous Awards – Open October, close in January.

• Specialist High Skills Major Awards – April 15th cut off for September intake.

• Other awards become available during the school year. In some cases students are notified via email or you can check the website using the QR code.

CAMPUS EMPLOYMENT SUCCI Campus Employment Service administers a part-time program for full-time postsecondary students on campus. These job opportunities can give students experience in their field, customer service and of course, extra money in their pockets. What's the selection process for a competitive program if I'm a high school student without the necessary courses?

We recommend taking the required courses during Grade 11 or first semester of Grade 12.

Your mid-term mark will be considered if you're currently enrolled in the necessary course. For those taking the course in the second semester, a minimum grade will be applied if your transcript shows your enrollment.

2. COMPETITIVE PROGRAMS a) Popular programs at Confederation College often have more applicants than available spots. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. Additional selection criteria may apply. Submit your application before February 1, to be equally considered among other applicants. Mid-term grades in required courses will be considered during selection. b) Confederation College does not differentiate between college or university (C, M, U) level Grade 11/12 courses for admission purposes. We accept and encourage students to enroll in the version of the course in which they are most likely to achieve the highest grade. Please note, university (U/M) level grade 12 courses are required for admission into the Bachelor or Science in Nursing (BScN) program.

3. WAIT LISTS Starting February 1, a wait list is created for oversubscribed programs, ranked by grades rather than application date. If a seat becomes available, the next highest-ranked applicant is offered the spot. Applications to waitlisted programs are still accepted. Second round offers are sent on May 1. Seat openings are possible but not guaranteed. Offers can continue until the 10th day of the program, excluding those with medical requirements, early mandatory field schools or safety training.

What criteria are used for competitive program selection?

Required course grades are primarily used for comparison. The Medical Radiation Technology program, however, selects based on 70% grades, 25% questionnaire, and 5% work/volunteer experience. Confederation College offers several programs to help you qualify - Pre-Health, Pre-Technology, College Access, General Arts and Science, Academic Upgrading, and the Mature Student Assessment. Consider the College Access or General Arts and Science programs if you're 19 years of age or older without a high school diploma.
