SOT calls for Close recall in Oct. 4 election MISSION — A recall election for David Close, Secretary of the Board of Trustees (BOT) for the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR), is scheduled for Oct. 4 of this year. No date has been set for Close to respond to the charges made against him in a petihon circulated by Terrie Brigham Trina/ Judge and signed by 225 tribal members JOhnSOn tO rule — more than 10 percent of the tribal electorate week of July Close's response was to be limited to one page, front and back, with two other pages detailing the DaVe CIOSe 'S charges against him. According to Sujet fOOgfain a document obtained by the CUJ, P the response letter is to be mailed to approximately 2,000 General fOreXeCutiVe C ounci members in ear y u y ' direCtOrS Close said in a June 30 memo to the Board of Trustees that he intends to ask the Election Commission to conduct an independent investigation that will, among other things, consider the fact that five BOT members signed the recall petition. On July 6, the Election Commission sent Close a letter saying that, based on the CTUIR Election Code, no investigation would be forthcoming. "It is a major conflict of interest that they would sign the petition and then review the validity," Close wrote in the June 30 memo to the Board.
