Executive Information Systems processing departments of several Federation members, the CEI, not just by chance, has managed to transform itself into the most active of the 20 commissions set up (the Claims Commission is in the process of creation) by FENASEG.

Since July,the CEI has been striv ing to ensure that SIAS 11 is as suc cessful as the first event in 1990, which featured 500 registered par ticipants and an exhibit attended by 2,000 visitors. This year, with the removal of the barriers imposed by the Brazilian information processing market reserve, the importance of SIAS II has been enhanced. CEI members are well aware of this and have redoubled their efforts to trans form the symposium into a water shed event for the market.

The CEI has brought together several pioneers in the field of in surance-applied information processing in Brazil. The Chaiiman is Jose Rodolfo Gongalves Leite, Director for Pioducts and Maiketing of Bamerindus Seguros, who states;

The nation's leading in formation processing companies are keen to show insurers at SIAS U how much their insurance-oriented products and serv-ices have evolved since the first Symposium was held in 1990. Insurers and brokers will hkewise want to turn the wooing they began with automation at SIAS I into a wedding. The result of this marriage made in heaven will be good news for everyone.

"The coming together at the II SIAS of so many professionals from the private insurance and information processing sectors is a reflection of the serious commitment the in surance market has made to tech nological evolution. The assimilation of the fresh ideas produced by the debates and lec tures will inspire us to speed up the progress for which we have in dividually and collectively invested

With annual Investments of around US$ 70 million in hardware and software, the sector is showing off the vigor it can inject into the economy. Consumers will benefit medium-term from speedier service and lower prices.

A sure sign that the in surance-automation mar riage will mean booming business is the yearning already felt by information processing professionals oriented towards the in surance market, ranging all the way from research and development of so much over the course of our his tory. This will permit us to deal realistically with proposals that are more in line with the actual profile of the present-day Brazihan insurance consumer."

Izamar Butler Areal Nogueira, In ternational Area Manager of FENASEG, and Martha Zelina Const^cio,SIAS n Organizing Com mission Secretary, cu-e in charge of holding up the "rear guard" of the event. Registrations, contacts with guest speakers and the entire gamut of information will pass through their hands. "Well have a larger number ofregistrations from Colom bia and Argentina, but I've received a lot of phone calls from all over Latin America and even the United States, asking for more information about the event," reports Izamar.

Expectations-"i expect sias

II to be as successful as the first one, and that insurers will mobilize them selves and their com panies and brokerages to get automated, as the banks have done," says Jose Roberto Catharino, Insurance Area Director of the Rio de Janeiro State Bank (BANERJ) and CEI Executive Secretaiy, sum marizing the expectations ofcommission members.

Julio Cesar Teixeira, Advisor to the Information Processing Council of Bradesco Seguros, likewise expects "the opening up of new paths, new options for the market, and more intermeshing bet ween the technical area and in surers. Marco Damiani, representative of the National Federation ofBrokers(FENACOR)on the CEI, dreams ofthe day when the market is paperless. "In the symposium's lectures and debates aimed at brokers, it should be made clear that the objective ofautomating brokerage firms is that papers will no longer be sent back to the insurer. By availing ourselves of digital wizardry, we will no longer need to retype anything at the firm," he says.

Gilza Gusman,Information Process ing Director at UAP Seguros, sums up all these expectations into a single phrase, which also sum marizes the symposium's objective; "the insurance market has fo speed up its automation process". need to

Innovations -Suppliers ofin formation processing products and services are diligently preparing fo make the event as appealing as possible. Sophisticated high-tech stands, state-of-the-art products and even zealously protected surprises to be shown for the first time at SIAS II — these are, the promises of Proceda and Fibernet. Also present will be such interna tionally renowned lecturers as IBM's highly competent Jean Paul Jacob, who will talk about multi media. With all of this, SIAS II in tends to bring participants completely up to date as to the in novations available on the market and open up prospects, on the basis of discussions, for many others to be produced on a nearterm horizon.

The new chapters ofthe history of the Brazilian insurance market will shortly be written on terminal keyboards, revised and approved on monitors and stored away electroni cally. The rapid processing of and access to information will permit the various segments that make up the insurance sector — today at different stages of development — to work hannoniously for constantly better results. When a marketing depai'tment wants to anticipate market trends, launching products that inik risks, coverage and indemnities in the most varied combinations, it will have quick and reliable information available at its fingertips, thanks to automatio'n.
