Running back Ahmari Davis reflects on recordsetting season By Angelina Pompeo @PompeoAngelina This season, University of New Mexico senior Ahmari Davis ran over 100 yards in three different games. His 832 total rushing yards so far in 2019 dwarf those of his first season with the team, when he ran for only 185 yards on 51 attempts. During New Mexico’s Oct. 26 game against Hawaii, he rushed for 200 yards total. According to Davis, that was also his favorite game of the season. “Certain games you feel it more than others, and I could say (in) that game I really just felt it,” Davis said. “I felt my speed was coming back. I felt aggressive. That morning, I prayed and felt protected. I just felt like having fun that game. I ended up with 200 yards and two touchdowns. It was great.” Davis starts as running back for the football team. This sea-
son was his second year on the team and at UNM. He spent his freshman and sophomore year at Laney College in his hometown of Oakland, California. The team has played ten games so far with two more games to finish out the year. Davis said during this season, the Lobos’ biggest problem has been their inability to play a fast-paced game. “We came out and started off slow. After we saw that we had more potential to win we tried to pick it up, but we couldn’t really beat the time,” Davis said. “It was kind of too late to come back.” Over the weekend, UNM lost 42-9 against Boise State in Idaho. They are scheduled to play against Air Force on Nov. 23 and Utah State on Nov. 30 at home. “I’m hungry for these (wins) we can get. If we beat these teams it would mean a lot to us,

UNM GEO celebrates International Education Week By Beatrice Nisoli @BeatriceNisoli The nation will collectively recognize International Education Week from Nov. 18 to 22. The week commemorates the significance of international education and exchange across the world and celebrates international students on university campuses, American students studying abroad and faculty members teaching and performing while traveling. The International Education Week initiative is governmentsponsored and occurs annually, according to the UC Davis Global Affairs website. The International Education Week initiative has its own website, complete with promotional materials to be distributed in local communities. "We encourage the participation of all individuals and institutions interested in international education
and exchange activities, including schools, colleges and universities, embassies, international organizations, businesses, associations and community organizations," the website reads. Alongside the rest of the United States, the University of New Mexico is championing its own celebratory and informative events — coordinated through the Global Education Office (GEO) — to educate students, faculty and staff on study abroad opportunities, career possibilities in international education, and multicultural art and food. Todd Karr, director of education abroad at the GEO, said International Education Week’s significance is rooted in both identifying and accepting the uniqueness that exists both within the large-scale world and more intimate communities. "International Education Week helps put people in the same room

UNM football suffers seventh straight loss By Spencer Butler
@SpencerButler48 The University of New Mexico football team fell to Boise State 42-9 on Saturday, extending the team's losing streak to seven consecutive games. Boise State won the coin toss and then punted the ball to the Lobos. On UNM’s first play of the game, Tevaka Tuioti fumbled the ball and Boise State’s Sonatane Lui returned the ball 24 yards for a touchdown, putting the Broncos up 7-0. The Lobos' next possession resulted in a punt. A 47-yard pass completion from Jaylon Henderson to John Hightower resulted in a Boise State touchdown after a 17-yard run from Octavius Evans, putting the Broncos up 14-0. UNM once again punted after a three and out, and Boise State again scored on an 18-yard pass to Khalil Shakir that was set up by a 50-yard run from George Holani. This put the Broncos up 21-0. The Lobos strung together a strong drive after the Boise State touchdown but turned the ball over on downs. The Broncos then capitalized as Henderson threw a 51-yard touchdown to Hightower, making the score 28-0 at the
end of the first quarter. The second quarter began with a UNM punt, but the Lobos managed an interception from Alex Hart to give UNM a good field position. Even with the strong field position, the Lobos turned the ball over on downs again. The Broncos went on a 10-play drive that was aided by a UNM call for roughing the punter. UNM forced Henderson to fumble the ball during a Boise possession, and the defense recovered the ball to prevent the Broncos from scoring. With 5:25 left in the second quarter, UNM looked to capitalize on the Boise State turnover and started to gain some offensive momentum after a 35-yard pass completion to Marcus Williams. However, Tuioti fumbled the ball again, and the ball was recovered by Lui. The Lobo defense held the Broncos to a three and out. UNM then strung a drive together to get an attempt at a 49-yard field goal for Andrew Shelley, but the attempt was just short. The third quarter began with the UNM defense forcing a Bronco three and out. UNM then went on a 12-play drive that resulted in a 40-yard field goal from Shelley, making the score 28-3.
Boise State responded with their own 12-play drive that resulted in a touchdown, putting the Broncos at 35-3. After another Bronco possession, a 50-yard pass to Khalil Shakir resulted in Garrett Collingham landing a 2-yard touchdown run that put the Broncos up 42-3 at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter kicked off with a Lobo punt, but UNM’s defense once again forced a turnover — this time on downs. This resulted in a touchdown run from New Mexico’s Micah Gray that made the score 42-9. Boise State ran out the clock to end the game. Tuioti went 14 for 21 for 175 yards passing and two fumble losses. Kentrail Moran was the leading rusher with ten carries for 30 yards. This was due to Ahmari Davis leaving the game on a cart with a left leg injury and not returning. Finally, UNM and Boise State held a moment of silence in honor of Nahje Flowers. The Lobos (28) will now face Air Force (8-2) on Saturday, Nov. 23 at noon at Dreamstyle Stadium. Spencer Butler is a sports reporter at the Daily Lobo.
