Eastcombe Gnome Hunt 30th June and 1st July Saturday is 2.00 – 5.00pm as usual but Sunday is 12.00 – 5.00pm.

We invite people to check out our Eastcombe Primary School Gnome Hunt Facebook page. On the route this year there will be ice creams for sale, a bouncy castle, sweets, face paints/glitter, dance display on the green and of course finish off to collect your gnome at the Village Hall and enjoy a cream tea or homemade cake. There will also be a band playing in The Lamb Inn from 5.00pm on Sunday.

20 In October 2014, we purchased Mugswell Nursery. Many local people remember it as Selsley Herb Farm and it had lain empty for some 10 – 12 years.

Chris was born in Bisley and has spent majority of his working life in and around Bisley. As a youngster he used to play on this piece of land and his father used to farm on the land. So, for him it holds a lot of good memories. It is partly this that led us to take on such an enormous task of trying to tame this piece of land that was once a thriving garden centre.

It has taken three years to dismantle the derelict buildings and revamp the ones that could be saved. We have added a large greenhouse and a couple of smaller ones. We have also built a barn for dry secure storage. We have nearly completed the buildings and will now be starting to organise the surrounding grounds a little better.

We have been gradually increasing our stock of plants which we sell from site, plus from outlets – George Stores Bisley, Holbrook Garage (Green Shop) Bisley, Stroud Farm Services Chalford. We will also fill hanging baskets and look after them until the frosts have passed.

Through the winter months we sell Wood Pellets and Kindling for wood burners and open fires. The Wood Pellets side of the business has been increasing year on year. This year in particular, has been really good, I think we may have the rather harsh winter to thank for that! Again we not only sell these from site,

21 we have them at various outlets throughout the district. We also have salt grit in bags for those slippery driveways and paths.

We love to see people drop in, some just come to have a look to see what we are doing and what we have done. That is great. We also take the time to listen to suggestions and if we can take them on board, we do so.

What is our aim …. Well we don’t have any intention of being the next big garden centre, you know the ones I mean! It is a small piece of land that holds many special memories. When we took it on, it looked like a wilderness, in fact it was difficult to even enter the site.

We have a vision to make it a pleasant place to walk around, maybe have a seat and listen to the birds, and above all, enjoy it. There will be plants for sale and at certain times of the year, vegetables and preserves.

So as you can see it is not just a nursery. It is also a park and a meeting place for a chat. If it is raining, come to the potting shed which after being re-vamped is not a bad place to be.

Assumptions are based on you own mindset and experiences. But this has nothing to do with your partner at all. Did you clarify with your partner, children, colleague, that what you heard is actually what was said!

We all distort and delete things to fit our state of mind and our expectations. We don’t do this all the time, but we all do it. What state of mind where you in the last time you said somebody else was irritating you? Tired, in a rush, very busy, stressed?

If so, then you are certainly somebody who at that moment was creating the ill feeling, which can only serve to sabotage the good feeling in your relationships. But did you take responsibility for that? Or did you blame them?

It’s likely that the other person may have been left wondering what they did wrong, why what they did was ok yesterday, but it’s so wrong today.
