EVERYBODY’S GOT A BOOK IN THEM We all have stories to tell, the pity is that so many go unheard. We’ve printed books on local history, novels, illustrated children’s books, guides, and even personal books perfect for recording family stories for future generations. With modern printing methods we can print and produce as few or as many as you would like. We offer advice on how to prepare your book for print or we can design your book for you. We also offer advice on paper, the best binding technique and even marketing your book. But before we print anything we talk, so if you have a story to tell call David Pealing on 01452 416391 or email davidp@severnprint.co.uk and let’s make your book a reality. www.severnprint.co.uk

Local Bee Keeper and Gardening enthusiast is all set to clean up in West Gloucestershire, and surrounding areas. Dele Aboderin is launching her own Oven Cleaning Business as part of the Oven Wizards Franchise. Dele lives and has worked in the local area for a number of years, so, as she knows the area really well, she believes there will be a strong demand for her services. Dele says “I was looking for a business idea that would be something I would enjoy doing and that would provide a great service to local people. I came across the idea of an oven cleaning business and then started to research the market. I soon realised that becoming an Oven Wizard offered me a great opportunity, particularly with the support of a successful National Franchise Brand. Mark Abbott, owner of the Oven Wizards business said “From the first time we met Dele, we knew she would make a great success of running an Oven Wizards Franchise, particularly because of her great passion for friendly customer service.” Mark went on to explain “There is a growing demand from people who want to have their ovens professionally cleaned because it is probably the hardest and most hated job in most households “. Oven Wizards have provided Dele with comprehensive training which will enable her to professionally clean all sorts of makes and models of ovens. Within the West Gloucestershire area Dele will cover Gloucester, Dursley, Wotton under Edge, Sharpness, Berkeley, Cinderford, Newent and surrounding areas. A recent Survey carried out indicates that oven cleaning is one of the most hated chores in the home. Taking into account the fact that there are over 26 million households in the UK and that nearly each one has at least one oven and a hob, the growing domestic cleaning market therefore provides unlimited opportunities to delight our customers. You can contact Dele on

I was delighted with the service I received from yourself and the way that the editorial looked! Thank you very much! I do not need to advertise for the next few months as I'm quite booked up, but will definitely use the directory again in the near future. I have gotten some absolutely lovely clients from the directory and couldn't be happier with it!

Thistledown Cafe Our campsite was established 10 years ago and offers 'back to basics' camping with environmental facilities, acres of space, and most importantly to me, proper campfires for everyone! In the last decade we've won many awards including the 'England's Number One Campsite' from Guardian Travel, Cool Camping, MSN Travel, Red Bull Adventure Guide and more. A couple of years ago we decided to set up a cafĂŠ for the campers but it's since proved even more popular with locals! Our cafĂŠ uses free range meats and Organic produce wherever possible, including award-winning local suppliers such as Salt Bakehouse and Woefuldane Organic Dairy. We are now open Wednesday -Sunday fur lunch, and offer brunch at the weekend and evening meals and pop-up events on selected nights. Our dining conservatory offers stunning views of Woodchester Park and houses the open kitchen where meals are prepared using our wood-fired clay oven and charcoal barbecue. We are now donating 5% of all hot drinks sales to Stroud Valleys Project to spend on tree planting and habitat creation within the Stroud District. They rely on donations and volunteers to operate so hopefully this will make a big difference and enable the planting of thousands of extra trees per year. I really wanted to set up a loyalty scheme but didn't fancy the 'buy 9 drinks get 1 free' approach and I really feel that this kind of 'environmental loyalty scheme' will resonate with a lot of our customers, especially once
we start seeing woodland creation that's been funded by it!

Looking forward to 2018 This year, Badger Sundays will be starting on March 25th and will be the last Sunday of every month until the final one on July 29th. Walking, talking and picnicking means that Badger Sundays are a great way to learn more about what we do and where we do it. Last year’s Wounded Badger Patrol Tea Party was so popular that we’ve made it an annual event. A talk from the conservationist and tropical field biologist Ian Redmond OBE, as well as a range of children’s activities, meant that guests ranging from 9 months to 9 decades enjoyed themselves. The great bring and share tea and raffle went down well too! We’ll publish more details in February and hope you enjoy the winter sunshine in the meantime.

Where were you born and brought up?
I’m very much a local lad - I was born in Minchinhampton and went to its Primary School in the 1970’s. I finished my education at Manor Secondary school in Eastcombe.
Paul and Joanna Heaven The Heaven family name has been linked to this area since the seventeen hundreds; it seems we really do enjoy living and working in this part of the world! I’ve been married to Joanna since 1996, and we have twin girls Jessica and Lucy aged fifteen and our youngest girl, Natalie, is fast approaching 13. The girls keep us both very busy and are expensive to run, but we do love to spend lots of time together as a family.
What did you do when you left school?
Glazing has been a big part of my life! I started work as a junior glazer for a small manufacturer of UPVC windows in the 1980’s and during my thirty-year career in glazing, I’ve managed all areas of the business from manufacturing to installation and surveying. These skills were essential when I established my own glazing company. Having this level of experience gives my customers piece of mind; they know they have an experienced tradesman working in their home.
What led you into the business you have now?
Heavenly Windows is a husband and wife team and was launched largely due to my previous employer selling their business. At that point we took the very big decision, especially with two very young children at the time, to sell the family car and buy a company van! It’s funny thinking back now on how the name “Heavenly Windows” was born. I was lying in the bath staring at a bottle of shampoo and noticed a chrome halo on the packaging. I suddenly had the idea – halo - heaven ah…..Heavenly! Employing local people is an important part of what we do, Darren Norman worked with me at a previous glazing company, so when we launched Heavenly Windows in 2004, he came to work with us too. Now his younger brother Phil has also joined the company; both are qualified installers.
Any interests or hobbies?
We love our family holidays, the outdoor life, and camping and caravanning across the UK and Europe, I’ve also held a private pilot licence since 2010, and I love to fly at Aston Down, Staverton and Kemble airfields - when I get the chance! I’m also part of an Indoor Target Shooting Club, based in Cirencester.
Plans for the future?
We want to remain a small family business, as we like to offer the personal touch

Plans for the future?
We want to remain a small family business, as we like to offer the personal touch to our customers. Since I’m very much a hands-on type of person, I enjoy project managing the entire process, from providing the initial quotation, to overseeing the installation right through to final inspection. No job is too small or too big, whether it’s replacing a small window or building a new conservatory, with underfloor heating and a tiled floor. We want to make it as easy as possible for our customers to update their home, and we are here to remove the stresses and strains that can be involved, such as organising different suppliers, or managing any planning requirements or building regulations application procedures. Heavenly Windows is FENSA registered No:32275, which has a very strict vetting procedure to ensure we meet the high level of industry standards required and comply fully with current building regulations. All our double-glazing installations come with a 10-year insurance backed guarantee, this is issued through the Glass and Glazing Federation (who own FENSA) and the policy also covers any deposits paid up to 25% of the contract value. With the above piece of mind, you know you’re sure to receive “A Most Heavenly Experience”

Perfectly Positive If you’re familiar with the phrase, “You are what you eat” try this one: “You are what you think”! Scientists have demonstrated that our thoughts impact on our health and well-being. Can you think yourself well, happy and successful?
It seems that those who expect favourable outcomes; see the good in others and who smile more, give off vibes which attract others and therefore have better support networks in times of need. Unless you’re already ‘perfectly positive’ it’s time to reprogramme your thoughts, attitudes and perceptions. You can actually choose not to be offended and not to indulge in self-pity, resentment or bitterness. You can change your perceptions of other people by being compassionate rather than judgemental. You can “Be slow to anger and quick to forgive” as the old saying goes. Positive affirmations help to dispel negative thinking. Be aware of your pet anxieties and make a list of affirmations you can use to start your day, or when you’re sick or under stress. As you repeat them, believe them. Here are a few to get you started:
I am healthy, happy and radiant.
I have all the energy I need to accomplish my goals and desires
I find time to relax and be me.
I am able to sleep well and awake refreshed.
I am a forgiving and loving person
I express anger in a positive and peaceful way.
Emile Coue, a 19th Century professor, a pioneer of positive affirmations, cured hundreds of patients by teaching them to repeat each morning and evening, “Every day, in every way, I’m getting better and better”. Try meditation. Sit comfortably with your eyes closed. Focus on your breathing and visualise yourself happy and fulfilled. It may help to picture a time you felt this way in the past. With every in-breath imagine being filled with the happy, positive feelings. With every out-breath imagine negative feelings disappearing. Begin your changes today. It is quite a commitment, but it starts with a simple thought: a positive one of course! Be inspired by Einstein He was a great believer in the power of the mind. “We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.” and “We must be the change we want to make”. And don’t forget Monty Python’s, “Always look on the bright side of life”! Sue Blain Naturopath

28 The Family Hypnotherapy & Coaching Practice
It’s About the Quality of your Relationships This springtime I feel joyless and depleted. Going through the motions keeps things safe and static. Arguments go around my head and I can’t settle. I’d like to enjoy my family and friends, but I’m not my best, so I’ll pass this time. I’m losing my spark, my edge, my optimism. The smaller I become, the less anyone will notice me. I have a hole in my life, which needs filling and it’s exhausting.... This could have been written by any number of our clients. We see people for a range of issues that have a finite definition. E.g. Stress, anxiety, worry, addictions, migraines, insomnia and more. However, after 5 years in practice, something becomes crystal clear. Whatever our clients seek immediate help with, the next thing on the list is usually their relationships. From a coaching and therapeutic perspective, this is very useful to know, because it also hints at where the solutions may lie. A major root cause of most issues is symbolised by a lack of positive social connections. Good connection with others goes hand in hand with good connection to oneself. So, it’s when there are issues with this connectedness that things start to go astray. Think about it. This could be a fall out, a harsh word, a fear, a grudge, a lack of recognition, abandonment, disappointment, some disrespect, paranoia, jealousy, false expectation, overstepping personal boundaries, bullying behaviour. There are so many ways to get things wrong, which only serve to make the problem seem complicated. But it’s actually quite simple. Improving the quality of our social connections provides a more direct root to filling the hole in one’s life, which might otherwise be filled with things like more work pressures, alcohol, drugs, being afraid, staying awake at night trying to figure things out, worrying about saying the wrong thing, or doing the wrong thing etc… Quality social connections are the lubrication for happiness, security, confidence and motivation. So, if you want to get better at living your life to the full, enjoying your family, your friends, your neighbours & colleagues, whilst being more creative and productive, don’t spend too long trying to figure out how to resolve the issue. Instead, just ask yourself how you can improve your feeling of connectedness with the significant people in your life. If you’d like some help with any of this, don’t hesitate to get in touch for a chat. by Liane & Sam (Changes Welcome)

Cultural Diversity Day
Celebrate our multicultural society on May 21st The idea behind it is to celebrate both cultural differences and similarities, and to challenge racism where it exists. Bringing cultures together strengthens the bonds within a community and provides more stability. Cultural Diversity Day has been run in May since 2002. It launches Adult Learners Week which is now in its fifteenth year and which champions adult education. Cultural Diversity Day was a natural development of Adult Learners Week as many of those seeking education are from other cultures and do not have English as a first language. The idea behind it is to celebrate both cultural differences and similarities, and to challenge racism where it exists. Bringing cultures together strengthens the bonds within a community and provides more stability. Those among us who think of themselves as ‘British’ and anyone from an ethnic community as ‘foreign’ might be surprised to learn just how ‘foreign’ the average contemporary Brit is. Most of us are descended from a variety of ethnic cultures which settled here before the 11th century. Celtic, Roman, Anglo-Saxon and Norse influences all blended under the Normans, who were themselves Scandinavian Vikings, who’d colonised Northern France. It would be nigh on impossible to find a single one of us with a pure British bloodline. More recently, Britain’s colonial history brought African and Asian cultural influences to our shores. More recently still, the Second World War brought people from all over the world here, many of whom stayed on once peace was restored.
Look around you. On an average high street you’ll see Indian restaurants, Chinese, Thai, and Italian. It wouldn’t be that unusual to see Japanese, Moroccan, Portuguese or French establishments. Dance schools offer classes in Ceroc (French jive), Latin American dancing and Belly dancing (Middle Eastern). Most of our interior design has, at some point seen Asian, African and now Swedish influence. A wit once said that being British is about driving in a German car to an Irish pub, drinking a Belgian beer, then travelling home, grabbing an Indian curry or a Turkish kebab on the way to sit on Swedish furniture and watch American shows on a Japanese TV! He wasn’t far wrong. How will you participate? Here are some ideas: Food tasting - coming together to share and try foods from a variety of cultural backgrounds A dance-athon - trying out various forms of dance A fashion show - showcasing different cultural fashions A music day - sharing music from different countries.
