ABOUT THE EVENT ‘Il Labirinto - Il mito di Arianna e il Mi notauro’ (The Labyrinth - The myth of Ariadne and the Minotaur) by Arianna Benedetti is a space which is entire ly made up of mirrors and symbolises one’s mental and spiritual journey to find oneself. The main concept for this piece stems from Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s short story in which characters set off on a chaotic journey - through their own reflected images - at a frantic and soft pace as they meet the beast, the maiden, torment, fear, love, irony, joy, and melan choly. Another source of inspiration for the choreographer was Italo Lanfredini’s sculpture ‘Il Labirinto di Arianna’ (Ari adne’s Labyrinth), located on the high cape of the Nebrodi mountains. This work is accompanied by a visual lighting design project which will help the audi ence and dancers alike plunge into their own labyrinth, and by Massimo Buffetti’s sweet and vibrant music.

The four protagonists - the Minotaur, Ari adne, Theseus and the Thread - repre sent different reflections of one individu al, and therefore different aspects of that same individual - each with their own peculiarities. The Minotaur represents the wildest and most animalistic part of us humans, but at the same time he is a frightened and lonely child. Ariadne TICKETS

is his feminine, more sensitive and ma ternal side, symbolising love. Theseus, instead, embodies courage - a noble and strong soul, the austere man who is not afraid of confrontation and who is the first, with his head held high, to enter the labyrinth with the aim of defeating the beast. Lastly, the Thread is the one who drives, the one who shows the way and is the fil rouge between all characters. It is he who weaves the web that will even tually lead them to overcome their inner Minotaur and find the way out to see the light and the stars again. The narration unfolds through minimal dynamics, fos tering emotions, networks and individual creativity, and shaping each character’s personality. Music plays a central role in this performance as it enhances the per formers’ sensitivity through actions and reactions and images of freedom - even improvisation. It is a shared dance, char acterized by special and multiple nuanc es of elegant gestures.

Sara, who is referred to as one of the most interesting and important choreographers of her generation in Norway, is concerned with the intention behind movement -gaze, timing, direction, intensity- and presence on stage. The choreography is inspired by demonstrations, Sami spiritual practices and formation dance. Vástádus eana · The answer is land, was made for the Festivals in Northern Norway, where Sara is a festival profile. The polyphonic joik was specially written for this piece by composer and professor of joik, Frode Fjellheim. The work explores fantasies of soft pow er— the ability to influence the behaviour of others to get what you want. Through the notion of soft power, the duet plays with the roles we take upon ourselves in society, questioning inherited patterns of behaviour as a form of power roles. How can dichotomies of physicality influence and take a position of authority?

BIOGRAPHIES

Lisa Colette Bysheim (1991) is a dancer and choreographer from Bergen, Norway working interchangeably with the materiality of language, choreography, movement, text, sound, scores, and meaning. She has a MA in Choreography from National Academy of the Arts (2021) in Oslo and her work has been shown at; The Norwegian National Ballet, BIT Teatergarasjen, CODA International Dance Festival, Galleri F15 & Momentum, Officine Forte Marghera (Venezia), Malta Dance Festival, Spazju Kreattiv (Malta), Theaterforum Kreuzberg (Berlin). In her work she explores the transfor mation and deconstruction of structures and systems in language and social codes. A recurring interest in her artistic work is to investigate how language, text and movement together can form multi-linear narratives with underlaying themes of gender equality, push & pull, and soft power. As a dancer, Bysheim has performed works by Janne- Camilla Lyster, Mia Habib, Yaniv Cohen, Ida Frømyr Borgen, Rom for dans, Roskva Yasmin Andersen, TGO//4332, directors Helena Wik and Lene Therese Teigen. Max Wallmeier (DE/DK) was educated at DOCH in Stockholm and is currently finishing an MfA in Choreography at the Danish National School of Performing Arts. He worked for choreographers such as Yvonne Rainer, Luísa Saraiva and Runa Norheim and as a member of Weld Company in Stockholm. As a maker, he is interested in the subtleties of asking for and paying attention while raising questions concerning progress. In his current research In the Wake he invites several collaborators to create duets with a focus on reversibility as a movement principle and composition strategy. He works in an ongoing collaboration with Maia means, in which they explore choreographic strategies to book- and dancemaking.

ABOUT THE EVENT In a world of ropes and restrictions four powerful women move between freedom and bondage. Sometimes they rebel, other times they collaborate, but always on the move, searching for that elusive feeling of liberty. Strings of rope are stretched across the stage. During the performance the dancers disassemble them and use them to tie each other up, to jump, to skip, to wave them and so on. Created for the magnificent, expressive and superb string quartets no. 8 & 10 by Shostakovich (which are performed live onstage), Inbal Oshman’s new dance piece asks what limits our freedomeither from outside or from the inside. Shostakovich string quartets are regarded as the sincerest expression of his fears from totalitarianism and the 20th century’s horrors. Shostakovich at Dusk is inspired also by the life of the genius Russian composer, who was praised and prosecuted, lauded and intimidated. Gentle and violent, serene and playful, Shostakovich at Dusk is a rich and manifold choreographic journey into the dark and enlightened depths of human yearning for liberation.
