ALTOSCHAVÓN de

Completed in 1982, Altos de Chavón is a replica of a 16th-century Mediterranean village; it is built almost completely of stone and overlooks the magnificent Chavón River. The cobbled pathways of this beautiful attraction lead both visitors and residents on a cultural and artistic journey, offering so much more than just a wonderful view and a pretty church.

Completado en 1982, Altos de Chavón es una réplica de una villa mediterránea del siglo XVI construida casi por completo de piedra y con vistas al magnífico río Chavón. Los senderos empedrados de esta hermosa atracción llevan tanto a visitantes como a residentes en un viaje cultural y artístico, ofreciendo mucho más que una vista maravillosa y una iglesia bonita.

Dominican Artisans

Chavón is home to numerous Dominican artisans. To the side of the church, there’s Carmen, who makes rag dolls, and Bernardo, who weaves baskets and hats. There are also weaving, ceramics and serigraphy workshops.

Shop for souvenirs at Everett Designs, the Amber and Larimar Museum, Jenny Polanco and El Batey. Chavón’s restaurants are great for cocktails, lunch and dinner, while Onno’s Bar is fun for a night out!

Inaugurated in 1982 by Frank Sinatra, Buddy Rich, Heart and Santana, the amphitheater has hosted more than 170 concerts with world-famous performers such as Julio Iglesias, Juan Luis Guerra, Shakira, Andrea Bocelli, Il Divo, Sting and Elton John.

Museum Of Archeology

Daily 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Closed Mondays. (809) 523-8554. With more than 3,000 pre-Columbian and Taíno artifacts, you’ll learn about the country’s rich ancestral heritage here.

Margarito

Our resident donkey has been a popular attraction in Chavón since 1987. Wearing his own sombrero, Margarito loves to have his photo taken and even offers donkey rides along the cobblestone paths.

MARGARITO

Nuestro burro residente ha sido una atracción popular en Chavón desde 1987. Con su propio sombrero, a Margarito le encanta que le tomen fotos e incluso ofrece paseos en burro por los senderos empedrados.

ST. STANISLAUS CHURCH

Mass: Saturdays 5 p.m. & Sundays, 6 p.m. Consecrated in 1979, St. Stanislaus Church is named after the patron saint of Poland in tribute to Pope John Paul II, who presented the church with the ashes of St. Stanislaus for its inauguration. A popular choice for destination weddings, it was here that famous actress Celinés Toribio wed in 2009, with fellow actress Michelle Rodríguez as her bridesmaid. It is rumored that the late Michael Jackson also married here; however, this is not where he married Lisa Marie Presley, although the couple did stay in Casa in 1994.

Iglesia De San Estanislao

Misa: sábados 5 p.m y domingos a las 6 p.m. Consagrada en 1979, la Iglesia de San Estanislao lleva el nombre del santo patrono de Polonia en homenaje al Papa Juan Pablo II, quien presentó las cenizas de San Estanislao para su inauguración. Una opción popular para bodas de destino, aquí se casó la famosa actriz Celinés Toribio en 2009, con la actriz Michelle Rodríguez como su dama de honor. Se rumorea que el difunto Michael Jackson también se casó aquí; sin embargo, no es el lugar donde se casó con Lisa Marie Presley, aunque la pareja se hospedó en Casa en 1994.
