HONOURING EVERY CHAPTER OF YOUR JOURNEY

We’re building a new movement

„ FROM THE FOUNDER | KYLIE KING

WHEN I first started the Australian Ladies in Business Initiative Community, it was to overcome something I was experiencing in my journey as a business owner and that was loneliness.

Running a business can be one of the most rewarding things you’ll ever do, but let’s be honest… it can also feel isolating. There are days when you’re your own cheer squad, your own accountant, your own marketing team, and your own IT support. And in those moments, it’s easy to wonder: am I the only one feeling like this?

That thought there, motivated me to create ALIBI. I wanted to build a community where women could connect, be real about the highs and lows, and know they weren’t alone.

A place where every chapter of the business journey was celebrated – not the wins and when everything feels like rainbows and unicorns but the whole journey and that also includes the faceplants, the pivots, and the messy middles that we don’t often see or hear about.

But it didn’t stop there. As ALIBI grew, I started to notice something that frustrated me deeply. So many awards programs out there weren’t really about recognition at all.

They were about how much money you’d made, how popular you were, or whether you knew the right people. The glossy, exclusive approach left too many female business owners feeling like they didn’t belong. Like their stories and their business journeys weren’t

worthy of celebrating.

So, I decided to do something different. The ALIBI Awards were born from the idea that every business deserves recognition, no matter the size of your turnover, the number of staff you have, or the circles you move in.

What makes our awards unique is the way our judging process looks at the whole of your business.

It’s not about a popularity contest. It’s not about who you know. Our judges take the time to read your story, to understand your journey, and to give you real, constructive feedback. Because recognition without feedback doesn’t help anyone grow.

This year, the fourth year of the ALIBI Awards and we have an incred-

ible group of finalists. To be named a finalist in the ALIBI Awards is not about perfection. It’s about courage. It’s about saying yes to sharing your story, being open to feedback, and stepping into the spotlight in a way that honours your whole journey.

I want every finalist who attended the Awards Night or not to know: whether you take home a crystal trophy tonight or not, you’ve already achieved something extraordinary.

You’ve chosen to put yourself forward in a program that truly sees you. You’ve shown up, not just for yourself, but for every other woman who will see your story and think, maybe I can do that too.

The ALIBI Awards are about more

than one night of celebration. They’re about building a movement where women back each other, cheer for each other, and create space for one another to shine.

They’re about reminding you that you’re not alone in this and that behind every business is a woman who’s been through the same doubts, the same setbacks, and the same little victories that only another business owner would truly understand.

Congratulations to every finalist. I honour the work you’ve poured into your business, the risks you’ve taken, and the resilience you’ve shown.

And I thank you. Thank you for trusting me, for trusting ALIBI, and for allowing us to celebrate you properly.

Because you are worthy of recognition. Every chapter of your story is worth honouring. And together, we are rewriting what it means to be a woman in business in Australia. With love, purple sparkles, and endless gratitude,

Lisa knew she wasn’t alone

LISA Di Bella is a dedicated mother of two lively and talented dancers, aged 15 and 12, alongside her husband and their beloved fur baby, Whiskey, who is nearly two years old.

In May 2014, during her maternity leave from her managerial role at Woolworths, Lisa embarked on a new journey.

She was with Big W & Woolworth for 14 years (started from the bottom and worked my way up to manager) before she started this business.

Before starting her business, she had an idea of what she wanted and what she didn’t want for her family. She wanted more time with her kids, more time to keep everything at home. She wanted to be able to go to school activities, her weekends back and more family time.

Lisa knew she wasn’t alone in this and the way she was feeling.

So, Lisa started Di Bella Cleaning Services. Cleaning is her passion and still is after 11 years of running this business.

The main purpose of this business is a way to show others that they aren’t alone in this world.

Life is so full on with kids, work, afternoon activities, homework and then on top of that the normal daily routine, cooking, cleaning and washing, that never ends.

In the 11 years, she has been able to build a successful cleaning business, able to grow and learn along the way what is important in business.

Knowing you go into someone’s

home and making sure that when they come home from work, with kids’ activities and they are exhausted, the house has been clean, dishes have been clean and put away, bed have been made, toys are tidy and neat is a reward of itself.

For her, the satisfaction lies in knowing that her team’s efforts provide solace to exhausted families, reassuring them that they’re not alone.

My passion for supporting disability

„ IN MY WORDS

MY name is Amie Discombe, and I am a support coordinator and psychosocial recovery coach with over 10 years of experience in the NDIS space, as well as more than 10 years’ experience as a senior mental health officer.

I became an independent support coordinator two years ago, specialising in supporting participants with mental health and psychosocial disabilities. This is an area I’m deeply passionate about.

My journey started over a decade ago as a support worker. From the very start, I knew that helping people was my purpose. Over time, I saw a clear gap in the system.

Participants weren’t receiving the quality of support coordination they deserved.

I heard too many stories of unreturned calls, delays in accessing therapy, and unmet needs. So I decided to be the change: I trained, studied the NDIS thoroughly, and became a support coordinator committed to making a real difference.

At the heart of my work is the belief in meaningful, inclusive participation, which is reflected in the powerful motto: “Nothing About Us Without Us.”

This principle, embraced by disabled people’s organisations around the world, guides everything I do. It reminds me that participants should always have a voice in the decisions that affect their lives, and that true support means walking alongside someone; not in front of them.

All Ability Support Coordination was founded two years ago while I was working as a senior mental health officer. During that time, I heard the same heartbreaking stories from participants again and again. They had reached out to their support coordinators for help with urgent matters like plan reviews or therapy referrals, and were either left waiting for weeks or never received a response at all. It was clear there was a serious gap in the quality of care and support people were receiving.

I knew I had to do something. I commit-

Visit: www.inspireallabilities.com

ted myself to training, completed multiple courses, immersed myself in the NDIS, and became a support coordinator; not just to tick boxes, but to make a real difference. I put my whole heart and soul into this work, with one goal: to change people’s lives for the better. What sets me apart is my unwavering commitment to being present and available for my participants. They know I will always answer their calls and if I miss one, I’ll call back. They know I’m there for them 110%. I pride myself on being resilient, kind, caring, and patient. I go above and beyond because I genuinely care.

My participants are not just names on a list. They are people I’m honoured to walk alongside, support, and empower every single day.

I help my participants with their disabilities, mental health, when in crisis, in the community, help them engage with allied health professionals and also a listening ear.

Living the best life possible

„ IN MY WORDS

HELLO, I’m Athanasia, though most folks know me as Sia.

Caring for others has woven itself into the very fabric of my life. As a full-time caregiver for my fianc? and my parents, I’ve come to realize how crucial it is to have the right support from someone who genuinely understands.

This deep, personal journey inspired me to create Empowering You Support Services, a sanctuary where every individual feels seen, heard, and encouraged to embrace life with independence, dignity, and joy. For me, providing a service transcends mere duty; it’s about cultivating authentic connections, championing your aspirations, and

celebrating every milestone, no matter how small.

Witnessing a participant unlock a door to a dream they once believed was out of reach is truly the highlight of my work.

Whether it’s mastering a new skill, rekindling family bonds, or embarking on adventures to uncharted territories, each achievement holds immense significance. In my personal life, I find joy in honing my cake decorating techniques and immersing myself in the rhythms of Greek music.

I’m also reigniting my passion for travel with my fianc?, eagerly discovering new cultures and making time to nurture my own mental well-being.

These passions serve as daily reminders of the importance of joy, adventure, and community. not only in life but also in the support I strive to provide. At Empowering

ing home environments through compassionate decluttering support.

By combining practical assistance with emotional care, we ensure that each participant feels heard, valued, and empowered throughout their journey.

At Empower U Today, lived experience is at the heart of what we do. As a proud neurodivergent person, I understand firsthand the importance of creating safe, inclusive spaces where individuality is respected and celebrated. This personal insight allows me to connect with participants on a deeper level, offering not only professional guidance but also genuine understanding.

Navigating systems like the NDIS can feel overwhelming, especially when faced with additional barriers such as mental health challenges or housing insecurity. That’s why Empower U Today is about more than coordinating services—it’s about breaking down barriers, building resilience, and ensuring every individual feels empowered to take the next step forward.

Bespoke branding and merchandising

„

IIN MY WORDS

EMBARKED on my entrepreneurial journey during the tumultuous early days of the first lockdown amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

With a rich 20-year background in the entertainment industry as a lighting technician, spotlight operator, and driver, my life took a swift turn.

Just a week prior, I was in Coffs Harbour working on an unforgettable Elton John concert. I returned to Sydney, only to drive AHA through the picturesque Hunter Valley, and within a mere 48 hours, I witnessed my entire work schedule, packed with opportunities, vanish into thin air.

Our long-anticipated dream holiday to Greece, complete with a private chef aboard a luxurious boat cruising the enchanting is-

lands for six weeks, crumbled before our eyes.

In the face of this loss, I made a bold decision. I invested all our savings into a newfound passion, crafting an innovative idea that evolved into a flourishing business.

Five years later, it continues to thrive, a testament to resilience during the harsh 2.5-year drought in the entertainment sector.

I still light up stages for superstars, with my most recent endeavour being a performance for Air Supply just last week, and I’m gearing up for my next driving role on Teddy Swims’ tour.

Kolour by Kaz, specialises in bespoke branding and merchandising tailored for

both businesses and individual clients.

We print on an impressive range of materials, from clothing sizes as small as newborn to as large as 5XL, and from high-visibility workwear to leather goods.

We cater to all desires, including coffee mugs, name tags, cushion covers, tea towels, wine coolers, stubby holders, and coasters.

For our furry friends, we even offer stylish doggy T-shirts and hoodies! Our no-minimum-order policy and swift turnaround with a while you wait service for smaller orders ensure that we meet every need seamlessly.

For larger demands, our cutting-edge machinery operates at remarkable speed to

produce high volumes without compromising on quality.

Our printing techniques include Direct to Garment (DTG), Direct to Film (DTF), and Sublimation, all designed to deliver stunning, high-definition prints that guarantee my customers receive nothing short of excellence.

The glowing five-star reviews on Google reflect the dedication and high-quality craftsmanship of Kolour by Kaz.

This year, I am thrilled to be recognised as a finalist in two prestigious categories: Golden Entrepreneur and Bricks and Mortar in the ALIBI awards.

Additionally, I’m honoured to sponsor the Rising Star Award category once again. With fingers crossed, I hope to take home that beautiful crystal trophy this year!
