Reimagining Young Greenwich

We’re proposing a new way of delivering youth services shaped by what young people and families have told us they need. This booklet explains what’s changing, why, and how you can get involved.

We’re proposing a new way of delivering youth services shaped by what young people and families have told us they need. This booklet explains what’s changing, why, and how you can get involved.
Young Greenwich is our youth offer, currently including:
• Youth hubs and activities
• Focused support (mental health, sexual health)
• Community grants
• School nursing
• Public health
Young Greenwich is delivered by local organisations including Oxleas, CACT, GLL, and Metro.
Earlier this year, we heard from families and young people about what the current offer is doing well, what we could improve, and what is important to you.
Based on what you told us, we created a proposal for what the offer could look like in the future. We want to know whether this proposal sounds right to you.
This consultation is your chance to help shape services that reflect your needs, your voice, and your future.

AVERY HILL YOUTH HUB
MORE EMPLOYMENT AND VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE TO DEVELOP LIFE SKILLS
YOUNG PEOPLE HAVE MORE SAY IN WHAT MATTERS TO THEM
We’ve heard...
Young people want an offer that represents them – not only their age bracket but also their aspirations and values.
With the help of young people, we came up with the following options for a new name for Young Greenwich.
• Young Greenwich Collective – “Together for Health, Hope and Growth”
• NextGen Greenwich – “For Health, Growth and Greatness”
• Growing Together Greenwich – “Connected Roots, Shared Futures”
• or we could keep our current name, Young Greenwich
We want your views on what you prefer.
We’ve heard...
• Young people want their voices to be heard in decision making.
• Young people want to be able to shape services that are relevant and respectful.
What are we proposing to change?
• Create a paid Youth Voice Apprentice role at the council.
• Develop a range of voluntary roles for young people to join the council and help to design and evaluate services.
• Increasing peer provision and youth-led working.
What will this mean for children, young people and families?
• Young people will help decide and evaluate what’s delivered.
• Young people will have more opportunities to develop employability and life skills.
• Young people will have more opportunities to deliver provision to support their peers. What are we proposing:
We’ve heard...
• People wanted to have a hub available in the West of the borough, somewhere central and easy to access.
What are we proposing to change?
• Creating a new Community Youth Hub that would host different youth activities throughout the year, including opportunities for whole-family support.
What will this mean for children, young people and families?
• Young people and their families in the West of the borough have access to a local hub built around their needs.
• Young people wanted more investment in their futures, being able to access more activities, skills and opportunities to grow.
• A new role dedicated to bringing in more money and resources to support young people and their families.
• Working with more partners across and beyond the borough to create more opportunities for young people.
• Bringing extra funding into the borough for more activities in our buildings, within our communities, by our organisations.
• Increasing the locations and range of activities for young people.
• More options for young people to develop life and career skills.
• Young people want to make better use of the spaces and equipment available in schools.
• There is a need for more whole-family services under one roof and in the community.
• People don’t always trust what they see online, but at the same time many people use the internet to access services and information.
• Our voluntary and community sector wants to do more to support our children and young people.
• Flexible, responsive programme supporting local organisations responding to residents’ needs.
• New online hub that will be co-designed by young people, for young people.
• More connection with our Adventure Play Centres and Multi-Use Games Areas, local schools, Family Hubs and Children’s Centres to deliver activities and support across more spaces in the borough.
• More services, information and activities for young people in the places that they want, including online.
• More opportunities for families to spend time, learn and do activities together.
• Schools are a trusted place to get information and support.
• People wanted to understand more about the wellbeing and mental health support that is available in schools.
What are we proposing to change?
• Transforming the School Nursing Service into a schoolaged health and wellbeing service for Greenwich.
What will this mean for children, young people and families?
• A service that is more visible and easier to access via online booking or text message.
• More information and advice on health and wellbeing issues that matter to you.
• More choice for children, young people, families and schools, with support and information provided face to face, via the web, social media and digital apps. What are we proposing:
