BUUS MR RECHARGE M003

When Daphne came up for sale a few years back, we jumped at the chance to make her part of our program. The mother of Dakota Outlaw and numerous full sibs that have made their mark not only on our program, but many others as well, and we are thrilled to showcase to you the next chapters in her story. Mating her to the new $100,000 Recharge was a no brainer. This mating fits the bill in our balanced approach to making genetic progress. Her quality phenotype and consistency paired with the big-time numeric values and a powerful physique of Recharge gave us just the outcome we’d hoped for. These brothers have absolutely exploded post weaning. They have a great combination of calving ease and growth and the genetic potency to excel.

Lot 4

KRJ Dakota Outlaw G974

Maternal brother of lots 1-5

Sire of lots 45-53 and 66-68

This son of the great Quantum Leap was a favorite early on in the pasture. He’s got a flexible build, extra stretch and length, and will add some style to a set of feeders. A full sister was nearly our top WW calf of our April calving group and is a beast in the replacement pen.

MR. KAISER M130

The day we bought Daphne, Kaiser was the first mating I wanted to try. I felt he was one of the most impressive bulls I had seen sell and would complement her well. I expected great things, but I didn’t anticipate M130. We’ve been blessed to raise some really good bulls each year, but I can say with absolute certainty we’ve never had a bull look like this. He is a phenotypic phenom. He defies the odds of pairing unreal stoutnesswith a perfect structural makeup. Density and look compliment his individual performance and powerful lineage. While he may not check every box for some, he provides attributes many sires cannot for pushing the quality envelope of the next generation forward. He will be a big part of our program moving forward, and we feel he has a chance to influence the breed in a big way.

An absolute power load to set the pace on this impressive group of Kaiser sons. Backed by a gorgeous dam and grand dam that have put power bulls on the front end of our sale for years. This stud will add mass and payweight in a single generation and you can be confident keeping the daughters if you choose. Huge ribeye and top tier performance.

Cut from the same cloth, this bull has performance to spare. Outstanding ADG with a big bodied, easy fleshing make up. He will add payweight, length of body, and density to a set of calves.

Here’s a Kaiser son that puts a little twist on how he can be utilized. DNA suggestsmore calving ease than some of his brothers, while still holding on to the growth this sire group suggests. A new sire group for repeat customers and a bull that would work great on a group of young cows.

HZN MR. KAISER M137

Big weaning to yearling spread on this ¾ blood stud! His mother 1772A is going on 12 years of age this spring and AI bred up early to calve before sale time yet again. Still has a beautiful udder, feet, and fleshing ability. She’s had many sale highlights over the years, all natural calves, with last year’s Outlaw son selling to Triple B Simmentals, SD.

I’m a big fan of this bull. While he might be the most moderate of the sire group, he combines power and quality to a really high level. He will be one you will be glad to have on your side of the fence in a few years. I anticipate he will be a really impressive mature bull, and his stout steers and bold females will have paid a lot of bills in the meantime.

HZN MR. KAISER M161

Lots of hands will be in the air March 8th when this bull comes on the screen. A stud in the pen and an impressive performer. He’s looked the part all year, and boasts top tier carcass traits including YG, BF, and REA all in the top 1% of the breed!

MR. KAISER M172

Outstanding phenotype mixed with real world performance and the maternal backing of the first cow on the place that comes to mind if you ask about picture perfect udder and fertility. She’s 10 this year and still going strong. This bull would be one of my first choices to keep back in the program and run ourselves. Maternal brother by Witness was our leadoff bull several years back going to long time repeat buyerWobig Nation, SD.

HZN MR. KAISER M324

Lot 13: We thought long and hard about just keeping this one back for ourselves. His mother was the first cow Maria and I bought when we were first married and she went to town this fall so this is her last calf. Super complete made PB bull that will pair really well with English-based and Simmental-influenced cows alike. Keep all the heifers if you want long lasting quality females.

Lot 14: Here’s a bull that will generate some double takes and for good reason. He’s been one of the farm favorites all year. He’s out of our April calving group of cows so a little younger than the rest of the sale bulls, but you’d never guess it. He’s been a top performer and has a commanding phenotype. It’s hard to get PB bulls to look this attractive and still push down the scales in a big way. Looking forward to watching his story unfold. I believe it will be a good one.

Quick Reference to ASA EPD and $ Indexes Expected Progeny Differences (EPD):

EPDs are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. In using EPDs, the difference between two sires’ EPDs represents the unit difference expected in the performance of their progeny. For example, if sires A and B have EPD of +10 and –5, a 15-unit difference would be expected in their progeny (moving from -5 to +10 yields 15 units). Key to using EPD is knowing what units they are expressed in. For example, if the above case referred to weaning weight EPD, A would be expected to sire 15-pounds more weaning weight than B. If calving ease were the trait, A would be expected to sire 15-percent more unassisted births in first-calf heifers; in other words, if B sired 30 assists in a group of 100 heifers, we’d expect A to require 15 assists. A percentileranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s EPD rank him relative to other bulls in the breed.

All-Purpose Index (API): Dollars per cow exposed under an all-purpose-sire scenario.

Back Fat (BF): Inches of backfat.

Birth Weight (BW): Pounds of birth weight.

Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers.

Carcass Weight (CW): Pounds of carcass weight.

Maternal Calving Ease (MCE): Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters.

Milk (MLK): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk.

Marbling (MRB): Marbling score.

Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth.

Ribeye Area (REA): Square inches of ribeye.

Warner-Bratzler Shear Force (WBSF): Pounds of force required to shear a steak.

Stayability (STAY): Percent of daughters remaining in the cowherd at 6 years of age.

Terminal Index (TI): Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal-sire scenario. (See below for more details.)

Weaning Weight (WW): Pounds of weaning weight.

Yearling Weight (YW): Pounds of yearling weight.

Yield Grade (YG): Yield grade score.

Big Picture Premiums

HVF home raised fed cattle last year went 80% Choice and 20% Prime on the grid picking up over $100 premium per/head. These were the culled siblings to many of the genetics for sale to you. Grid premiums are a part of the Big Picture Commitment.

Lot 15

BUUS MR RESOURCE M36

Big time indexing bull that has awesome spread with data points in the top end of the breed for calving ease and growth with a great big ribeye laid in between. The Fireman sire on the dam side should be familiar for repeat customers who bought the big and stout growth studs in the past.

BUUS MR RESOURCE M39

If you’re thinking that rebuilding the nation’s cow numbers might as well start in your operation, take consideration here. The Cowboy Cut females are leaving their mark on the industry and this bull’s granddam has put a set of daughters and granddaughters both in Lennox and Canova that have been fertile, awesome uddered, and long lasting.

BUUS MR RESOURCE M48

BUUS MR RESOURCE M13

M13 is a great way to lead off a new sire group for us. The Resource sire group brings together many attributes in our Big Picture breeding approach. Outstanding balanced set of data in a bulky and flexible package. He’s also backed by the maternal power of a Teardrop female that flat gets it done each year.

Lot 18: It’s our goal to offer up large sire groups for multiple reasons, one of those being the chance to see the consistency of a sire and how that might translate to your calf crop. It also gives you a chance to put together multiple brothers that will add consistency and make your breeding decisions an easy one. This bull, like the rest of these brothers are all peas in a pod.

HZN MR. RESOURCE M85

The one in the group with a little more gas in the grow tank, which is no surprise with the D.O. momma backing him up. This stud is a breed leader for growth and red meat potential on the grid. He’s a smooth criminal in the flesh and has that herd bull swagger.

MR. RESOURCE M155

A touch more scale and stretch in this rascal. He’s got the pound maker look and the data to back it up!

To tell you this truth, this bull was just a nice black calf in the pen at weaning time, but has been absolutely hammer down since then! When walking through them just the other day I did a double take at the tag because I didn’t recognize that to be him. Backgrounders and feedlot guys take note here.

Bridle Bit Recharge K256

$100,000 Resource son sold in 2023

Sire of lots 1-3

Let’s kick start into the next sire group, the freshman class of Kickstarts! Sorry, I’ve been waiting a couple years to use a cheesy line or two, but in all seriousness this group of brothers is no joke. Kickstart was a sale feature on a blizzard sale day in our old calving barn back in ’23 selling to JWC in Parkston. He’s become our new go-to heifer bull, as most come very nice sized, and their phenotype is high quality. What we didn’t necessarily foresee is the performance he would add on. Walk through this group of brothers on sale day and I think you’ll see these aren’t your typical heifer bulls. Lower birthweight sires with the mass and performance to use on cows.

MR. KICKSTART M34

I’d invite you to take a look at this bull’s data set, but I’m guessing you’ve already observed this bull to be a true outlier. When the genomic enhancement came back on this big stud it placed him right at the top of the breed for the traits he’s lived out all year long. Pounds pay more in this environment than ever before, and if you start adding the extra weight you’ll sell out of his progeny over the next few years, this bull will be a very wise investment no matter the hammer price. We’ve got our eyes on this unique prospect and we’d expect many of you will as well.

Lot 24

HZN MR. KICKSTART M52

The beauty of incorporating DNA into these bulls’ EPDs is it gives us a look into the future and an idea of what to expect their offspring to be with greater confidence. I enjoy watching brothers like this differentiate themselvesinto different avenues of use. This bull slides himself into the top heifer bull candidate spot of the sire group. His dam is one of our top keeper females last year and did an awesome job getting this bold and flexible rascal across the finish line. Big fan of this one.

Balance on the hoof and on paper best sum up this rascal. Come easy, grow fast, and garner grid premiums in the end seem to be the keys to success in our outfit, how about yours?

Just like his picture, this guy is good livestock and the perfect posterchild for the Kickstart sire group. He’s got the soft body, easy fleshing, flexible skeleton and arrogant presence we now expect from this sire group. A bull that can do a ton of good in many places.

Chuck doesn’t get off the farm much, except to church or to town on an emergency trip because he ran out of ice cream. However, he made the trip up to the Wulf family’s Bred for Balance sale last spring and helped us purchase a new resident herd sire CLRS Lincoln 0107L. He also snuck out the mother of this unique breeding prospect before making his trip back home. This bull can read and write, and has a unique twist of pedigree to the rest of the bulls we will offer up. His dam has already found herself in the donor pen and will be one you will be hearing more of down the road.

The Gold progeny have been really consistent and well received over the years and we suspect this bull will follow suit. Just a 65 pound BW to over 700 at weaning should catch interest of most.

Lot 29

This bull catches my eye every time. His skeletal quality and flexibility are how I’d like every one of them to be. He’s as balanced and high quality as any in the flesh. I’d have lots of confidence turning him out on a group of heifers or young cows and expect him to make the next generation better.

New sire group this year and fresh genetics out of a young cow that entered the donor pen this past spring. He’s big outlined, long bodied, lots of muscle and extra attractive. We think steers like him will attract bidders and if his daughters looking anything like his dam and grandmother, you’ll have a top set of replacements.

HZN MR. DIMENSIONAL M61

Lot 30

Lot 32: Heterosis and breed complimentary are a big part of our breeding program around here. We wanted to mate one of the most talked about Angus sires to a few PB Simmental cows to generate top end SimAngus progeny and lot 32 was everything we had hoped for and more. He will find lots of friends on sale day, and has performed on the front end of this group all the way through. Dam and granddam have raised beautiful females and bulls alike and have been strong matriarchs of our program.

Lot 31: This bull’s dam was our pick of Lehrman Family Simmentals dispersal a few years back. We liked so many things about her we decided to put her to work on the ET side of things, and man are we glad we did. Mating her to the red-hot Wheatland Dimensional bull proved to be the perfect cross. This guy is a beefy stud through and through. He’s a baldy to boot and full sisters are a highlight of our open heifer calf crop. Much more to come from this cow family. Bid with confidence.

BUUS MR RESERVE M10

Moving into the Reserve sire group, here’s another new sire group for long time buyers that boast really balanced data sets, masculine physiques, and that coveted white face on several. This bull reads with excellent growth predictions and the ability to add value on the grid.

BUUS MR RESERVE M16

Back the trailer up, here’s a bull everyone will want to load and go. Great looking baldy that’s powerful and functional in his makeup. Slap a comprehensive set of EPDs on top with huge indexes and this bull is an easy decision to make your shortlist.

BUUS MR RESERVE M38

Here’s the Reserve son I’m the most drawn to. Arguably a shade bigger outlined and longer bodied than his brothers, but fills his perimeter with extra rib and muscle. He’s athletic as he travels and has the data driven tangibles to

and

for years to come.

BUUS MR RESERVE M60

This year’s meat and potatoes award winner? I think so! Massive centered, thick ended and loaded with product and fleshing ability all the way though. So gentle in his demeanor and has the herd bull look. Cow changer.

Burley and stout, another Reserve with big time growth and outstanding carcass merit! A group of brothers working together could really change a group of calves and put big premiums back on top of already strong prices.

Last year’s War Paint sire group was so well received and for good reason. This sire group continues to impress. The bulls just keep getting better and when turnout time comes this spring and summer you will be really pleased to have one in your lineup. His females might be his best legacy. We are currently calving out the first bred heifers out of him. They are beautiful cows with loads of mass, yet feminine; and the udders have been exceptional so far as well.

HZN MR. WAR PAINT M92

MR. WAR PAINT M103

Beef machine sells here. Love the depth of rib and muscle dimension this rascal packs throughout. He’s gaining with the best of them, and his calves will do the same.

HZN MR. WAR PAINT M111

HZN MR. WAR PAINT M191

Lot 40: The looker of the brothers, he’s been a favorite throughout the summer and fall. He’s cocky, dimensional, and so clean made. Big top and thick ended.

The E714 cow has been a real contributor around these parts for many years including a sale feature D.O. female in last year’s sale selling to Cody Stahl, SD. This bull will dress up a set of calves and keep birth weights down while not giving up pounds to sell in the end.

Lot 38 is built with the muscle, density and smooth makeup we’ve come to expect.

The “Charger” bull is a new herd bull in the lineup at B2U that comes from the Felt Farms firm in NE. His first group of calves have exceeded expectations. These two young studs will catch your eye, and it’s not by accident. Charger has been stamping all of his offspring with an attractive, square made, and sound structured build. They have the length and stretch to add performance, and the design tools to make females.

MR GLOBAL M64

No surprise to our repeat customers and those that have followed our program the last several years, we’ve got another powerful set of Dakota Outlaw brothers to offer for your appraisal. He continues to solidify his spot as the most consistent sire we’ve ever used for top end performance with outstanding structure and phenotype.

HZN MR. DAKOTA OUTLAW M109

Lot 45 is a chip off the old block. He’s so gentle that picture posing didn’t seem to be a priority in his mind, but I’m confident if you walk the pen or check out his video, you’ll see there’s lots to like on this guy.

HZN MR. DAKOTA OUTLAW M129

Phenotypically speaking, this bull might be one of my all-time favorites out of Outlaw. He has lots of power, but is so flexible, square built, and soft made. A jet black hair coat just adds to his quality look!

HZN MR. DAKOTA OUTLAW M150

This bull has really been putting it on in the last month or two, and his dam has been an excellent producer. I think we’ve bred her to Outlaw 4 years strait because it’s a no miss.

HZN MR. DAKOTA OUTLAW M151

The #1 WW bull of the offering and an absolute stud! He’s been a load all along, and filled many boxes on the top end of the breed for carcass and performance. He’s worth the trip to Canova on March 8th

HZN MR. DAKOTA OUTLAW M164

Kind of like my kids, I may or may not have different favorites depending on the day when it comes to these Outlaw sons. Of course, when I get them all grouped up I tell them they’re all my favorite so we don’t have any hurt feelings. That being said, this dude is a unit and could very well be the one you gravitate towards come sale day. He’s had his share of days of being the “favorite.”

HZN MR. DAKOTA OUTLAW M177

Lot 51

HZN MR. DAKOTA OUTLAW M202

Ol’ Shark Tooth is going to be a favorite come sale day. He’s an earth shaker for gain, meat, and guts but has such a smooth look and gentle disposition. The Boise females have been excellent so he gets the nod for maternal strength to go with his breed leading carcass traits.

One of the biggest framed bulls of the set, and one that has been crushing it post weaning. Check out the spread from weaning to yearling on this rascal. His genomics tell the same story.

Lot 53

I’m guessing if you lined these brothers up for a judging contest this bull might just win the class. He is so balanced on the hoof. He’s excellent on his feet and legs, square and bold in his muscularity, uniform and dimensional in his body shape and has that masculine presence down pat. Maternal bother in 2022 sold to DeJong Ranch, SD.

Lot 54

The Gibbs 9114G Essential sire has been as popular in the breed as any over the last few breeding seasons. A quick glance at the EPD box and you’ll get an indication why. Tremendous genetic prediction for future progeny all across the board. Their individual DNA reinforced this and now they’re ready to impact your program. Take the guess work out and get in on 1 or all of these brothers

Lot 55

Most of the Essentials seem to have a little more frame and stretch than some of our other sire groups. PB bull here that would be perfect on a group of Angus x type momma cows. The hybrid vigor advantages paired with his expected performance numbers will translate into big results come weaning.

Wow! One of the most rewarding parts of breeding cattle is watching impactful breeding decisions that can stack up into a new package and be something special. This is a really impressive bull that stacks perennial timetested sires together. Out of a first calf heifer with a beautiful udder that just dropped her next calf right on cue before writing this footnote. 12 traits and indexes in the top 15% of the breed with real performance and power on the hoof. Carcass predictions spell BIG premiums as well. We all might need to go take another walk around the pen to find this guy.

An early favorite as a baby and out of a cow family that is stacked with easy keeping, stout made, power females. The Genuine sire group will allow for as much BW to WW spread as any of our sire groups. This gives you the peace of mind to use them on young cows or even heifers, but not feel bad kicking them out on your prime cows too.

A little more horsepower bred into this wagon train of a bull. Nearly 800# out of a 1st calf heifer and hasn’t looked back. Top percentile for growth and out of the carcass king!

HZN MR. HOLLISTER M215

The lone Hollister in this year’s sale, but won’t be the last as he’s still hard at work here on the ranch. Hollister is a full brother to the popular LCDR Favor bull and has been so consistent in making power cattle with growth and functionality.

BUUS MR IMPERATIVE M67

Lots 62 & 63: A new sire group with cutting edge genetics fresh off the press from the KBHR in ND. Semen wasn’t available until later in the breeding season so these two are a little younger but have been top performers. Both are big time in their API and TI indexes. The M67 has some advantages in calving ease while M68 will add a few extra pounds across the scale. Both are backed by the Medora cow family which is quickly becoming a household name in the Simmental business.

Lot 64

HZN MR. PRIVATE STOCK M127

HZN MR. INTERNATIONAL M93

A bull here that will add some real attractiveness and muscle to a set of feeders. We bred a cane of Private Stock semen with the hopes of making females and got exactly what we hoped for. 10 calves out of 10 straws and 9 of them heifers. For you not familiar with AI that is crazy high fertility and strange odds. A few more bulls would have been just fine because I like this calf, but hopefully we are able to offer some top-notch sisters in next year’s sale.

A slight blast from the past to round out the bull division, but a bull that will be appreciated for sure. This chunk in the pen is robust in all the good ways, but it’s his maternal strength to consider in my opinion. The Emblynette 5483, CDI Innovator and Royal Affair cow families have been outstanding females around the country and I can say that udder quality on the daughters around these parts is real good.

L224 has been at the forefront of the pen since the word go. She’s as pretty as her picture, and as powerful as they come. If she were staying, she would no doubt make her mark on our program, and I assume the same will be said at her new home as well.

HZN MS. DAKOTA OUTLAW L179

This lady will generate lots of friends! She’s the kind to get your blood pumping! She’s got so much look and presence to go with her power-packed pedigree. While I know her heifer calf by Brilliance is a lower percentage, when she came through the chute last spring, I just couldn’t help but stick a sexed straw of semen in her to see what a daughter would look like right off the blocks. I think you’ll agree when you see the pair in

replacements for one money come March

When we decided to open the gates last year on our registered bred females for the first time, we made a commitment to offer our very best. The heifers were met with unbelievable interest, and are already making their mark in their new homes. That being said, this year’s offering was compiled using the same approach. These females are cut from the top of the deck.

Bull maker. That’s what comes to mind each time I see this powerhouse female. She brings the power and performance we’re accustomed to with the Outlaw progeny, yet is so cowy and flexible in her design and quiet in her demeanor.

Lot 69

Give me a ranch full of females like this one, and we can make money a bunch of ways. To put it simply, she’s good cattle. Moderate made, feminine featured, but her performance potential stems from her exceptional length of spine and hip and she ties it all together with a robust body cavity that’s built like they’re supposed to be.

Lot 70 70

Lot 71

This one is as refined and beautifully designed as you could make one. Here’s the fault free female that is set up to perfectly compliment the big-time performance bulls throughout her career, or take a stab at making a few show heifers. You own her, you’ve got options.

Odds are this female gets the most stars in many catalogs come sale day. She’s a cool ride. Huge paws at the ground, bold and soft centered, big hipped, and neat fronted. Awesome uddered and a heavy haircoat add to her intrigue. She’s the type of female I like to buy so its hard to see her go.

Lot 72

Lot 73

We’ve had such great success with the Direct Impact bull over the years for siring low birthweight cattle the get up and grow, and his daughters might be his best attribute. We’ve got many in our herd, and this female is a chance to add one of your own. She’s transitioned into a beautiful first-time mommy over the last few weeks and looks to be one that will be a contributor for years to come.

This Double Up female brings some really neat pieces to the table. Long necked and elegant fronted and lots of length and extension. Her mother matured into a model cow, and I

believe this female

Wowza! I’d like to say don’t get me started on the War Paint females, but you’re going to get an earful about how impressed I am with them whether you ask or not. This baldy babe makes my case pretty convincing. She’s so flexible and cowy built, with power and fleshing ability built in. I thought the WP heifers were solid all along, but man oh man did they crank it up before and after calving. Udders have been excellent and milky, and mothering ability has been fantastic. This one ties all the goods together in one of the classiest packages.

HZN MS. WAR PAINT L105

Bigger framed WP daughter here, but one that brings so many cool breeding attributes to the drawing board. Her dam has a high-quality AI sired calf every year, and is still in prime production which makes letting this future factory go a little easier.

Lot 75

I think we can all agree females made like this one will always be in demand. Moderate framed, bold bodied and easy keeping, with a build and pedigree to make future mating decisions a breeze.

My brother-in-law Zach and sister Amanda raised First Flight. He’s a son of Pilgrim and stems back to the great LLSF Neon Ray cow. After seeing several baby calf pictures, I wanted to give him a try to make some sweet females for replacements. I seem to be wrong more than I’m right, but this heifer proved that decision to be a great one. I love this one. She’s sporty and I’m sure her quality won’t be missed.

MS. RIVER D49 L238

The Darling D49 ET progeny were a highlight of the 2024 sale including the high selling female to Schroeder Cattle Company. We feel these two sisters step in right where the others left off. This Red River daughter is a powerhouse yet so flexible and attractive in her makeup. Udder and teat quality are really nice. She’s got ‘new red donor’ written all over her.

Captivate needs no introduction after bursting onto the red Simmental scene and it sure seems he was worth the hype with a quick glance at this female. Hard to put a performance driven red one together any better. She’s so gentle it was hard to get her head up for a picture, but watch the video and you’ll see she needs consideration. We kept half interest in her sister last year, otherwise this one wouldn’t be for sale.
