MEDIA PACK 2017

The joy and the challenge. The joy The day a woman finds out she is pregnant can be one of the most exciting days of her life; from telling the family to starting the welcome preparations for the new arrival. For a British Asian mother-to-be there are a range of cultural, religious and family traditions that become part of her pregnancy and early-motherhood.

The challenge This sense of euphoria can either be embraced or quickly masked by the stress and doubt of many unanswered questions that are part of being a British born south Asian woman (or a south Asian-born woman living in the UK). In addition, she embarks on the natural process of a nine-month pregnancy, including all the excitement and nerves surrounding birth and motherhood just as any other woman; leaving her to juggle between two influential, cultural experiences of life and parenthood. Not to mention, the vast range of products that British Asian women and parents need specifically tailored to meet their cultural and religious requirements, which are currently available, but not easily accessible. Thankfully, the British Asian mum of today has her partner by her side, sharing the experience of pregnancy and motherhood, together with the UK midwife and health-visiting community. But, to fill the combined gap of reaching out to British Asian mothers is where Indi Mamma Pregnancy & Parenting Magazine comes in.

Indi Mamma is going to change the landscape Indi Mamma Pregnancy & Parenting Magazine is a pioneering communication outlet for pregnant British Asian women and British Asian parents, with both a hard copy magazine and online community. We offer a fresh perspective, creating a non-judgmental community to support from pre-conception to the early stages of pregnancy, through to toddler years; one of the most important stages of learning both for parents and their children. Indi Mammais about a common connection, the same ‘unspoken’ language and embracing or questioning the same cultural traditions; but it isn’t just about ethnicity. It’s real, reliable and relevant. It’s British Asian.

The Indi Mamma reader. An Indi Mamma is a British woman of south Asian origin. This means with parents or grandparents of Indian / Pakistani / Bangladeshi / Sri Lankan / Afghan / Nepalese heritage, or themselves born in one of these countries but now a British National. The Indi Mamma reader is aged 25-45, and of an ABC profile. She could be expecting her first baby, or be a mother of three including a young toddler. She may have struggled to conceive, planned her pregnancy or was surprised by the conception, but either way, she will be surrounded by family and friends who will bring a cultural and religious influence to her life, the life of her baby and her growing brood. The Indi Mamma reader will often ‘laugh-out-loud’ at the all too familiar motherhood stories and old wives’ tales brought to life on the pages of our magazine. Relieved with finally having an outlet to share her unique British Asian experience and discover products that are relevant to her; whilst her curious husband reads over her shoulder, knowing that he too can gain from our pages.
